But we need some drastic changes to ladder code, and you've mentioned on more than one occasion that you're on board with the need to get rid of tier preference. So just drug Bort and give him some cheetos and get him to agree to that change.

Then put in a protection for rookies so they never play teams more than 1 rank above them, and only play sophomore teams in the last 1/3 of the season. Don't want newbies getting discouraged.

Lastly, expand the challenge range as teams move up tiers, ie. 10 for rookies, 15 for sophomore, 20 for seasoned, and so on. We need more variety in games, and as teams get up and attrition kills off the bad teams completely, the differences between the teams should narrow.

I'm thinking of changing it so rookies always play rookies, sophomores always play sophomores, then after that it is free reign.

That keeps the "top 10" threads alive at the most populated levels, and once they hit the big boy pool they will at least have high enough skills to not look ridiculous.

Why not just rookie vs rookie?

Soph teams do fine against the lower seasoned teams...and isn't it true that having those teams interact with one another makes the ladder more accurate..rather than forcing the soph teams to stay together in a lump?

Plus there is no soph top 10 thread to worry about.

I think it makes great sense for rookie - but I'd vote to restrict only rookie - that lets you get the most accurate ladder.

Agree that there is no need to make sophemores stay in sophemore. But letting play Sophemores vs Journey or maybe even Vet later is also stupid. Maybe better do a code to let them play "+1 one tier ahead" for each tier?

Means:

Seasoned can be matched vs Seasoned/Journeyman/Professional

Journeymen can be matched vs the rest

Professionals can be matched vs the rest

This. Sophomores are fine against seasoned, but look 2 seasons into the future when it'll be possible to face a veteran team.
