Is this statement correct? :
- when defending the run (now that GL roll out is kind of nerfed) - it is relatively simple. Inside runs: Stack the box. Outside runs: blitz a CB...or build fast LB's to cover a lot of ground - or count on your CB's to beat the WR in front of them to make the stop (not too hard if it isn't a blocking WR)
- defending the pass isn't quite so simple though it appears to me.
In rookie you can currently beat passing with blitzing: all I did was make a fast blitzing LB and he could blow up just about every play. I understand (if what I read in the forum is true) that blitzing is dramatically less effective at the higher levels (seasoned on anyway...and maybe some of sophomore for the good teams).
So once blitzing is off the table as a viable, consistent way to stop the passing game -- is it just a matter of throwing up cover 2 against speedsters....running some man base...etc -- is it just: Have CB's that you think are as well built as they can be --- and hope they keep up with the receivers -- and hope you win 3 rolls in a row where a catch isn't made?
I'm sure I'm over simplifying it...but anyone willing to share their thoughts? (this is not a tears post - I did lose my ladder today - but the other teams QB was only 45% - I'm just trying to learn and it sure seems...based on my limited knowledge...that where run defense requires thought / scouting / planning --- pass defense might just require tossing in your perceived 'best coverage' plays and not touching the D again unless you play a heavy running team.
