Right now, QB's only have one effective outside running play which greatly limits what an offensive coordinator can do with them versus HB's. While I'm okay with QB's not being as effective as HB's, the greatly reduced running skill caps already accomplish that. Plays that are known to be broken aren't balance, they're just chaff to be ignored.
By having the QB take the same couple steps backward s/he does on QB Rollout Strong from goalline, the offense has time to get their lead blockers into position to actually do their jobs. Most likely, they'll be picking up DE's and OLB's who currently go uncontested into the backfield which is why almost all QB outside runs are considered broken.
This small change would greatly improve the overall playcalling diversity, and almost certainly reduce the 'spamming' of QB Rollout Strong as teams would immediately have more options than just that one play.
