- Blitzers now always get "locked in" to pass rush mode and will keep rushing the QB until they get close to the ball or make an awareness check, regardless of if it's a run or pass play. This should allow runs to better beat those edge blitzes.

How close to the ball is "close to the ball"?

It looks like he passed his blitz awareness check, actually.

But the QB vacuumed him into a block - that's blocking animations and a Revcake, not tackle animations. Still a problem, but not the one you think it is.

Yeah that blocking animation confused me, but it looked to me like he was trying to get around the HB. If he ran around the runner to be blocked then that's probably a bigger problem than the one I thought.

You think so? Looks like the DT had no idea wth was going on to me.

OP can you post how much blitz awr your DT has? looks like he failed checks to me.

No. That's a total failed check on a DT set to elusive or combo pass rush. He intentionally ran around the HB to get at the QB.

And he then engages the QB in a block. If he had been tackling the QB, they both would have gone down - tacklers ALWAYS fall in GLB2. DT hits the QB, they are in a blocking animation for 1 tick, and then is the reverse pancake.

He forgot he's a pro GLB2er, and was still playing college read-option defense where you always hit the QB no matter what?

Okay, by ticks...

32 - DT wins his blocking roll vs the C
45 - DT decides to begin evading a potential blocker.
45-56, DT runs around the ball carrier. AT no point does the HB even make an attempt to evade a player who is obviously not trying to tackle him, nor does the DT make any move at all towards the HB.
60 QB blocks DT. I have no idea where you get the idea that defenders ever tackle blockers. The QB blocks the DT. That's the only thing the sim knows for an offense vs defense collision that doesn't involve the ball. So, the sim doesn't even register a chance for the DT to make a tackle on a non-ball carrier because it doesn't know how.

(side note, there are all kinds of failed awareness checks in that play if you look for them)

The DT had blitz awr at 20 and combo rush tactics.

When have you ever seen a defender tackle a non ballcarrier?

stop that play at 32.5. That's when he makes his check and you can see him change vectors on 33. 'Course, he then gets dragged a bit, but you'll still see that at 32.5 his vector changes from QB to HB.

Cool that's what I initially thought, which brings me back to my question. Bort's changelog post seems to imply that a blitzer will stop rushing the QB when he gets close enough to the ball. Is this the case and, if so, how close will the blitzer need to be? From what I've seen the blitzer will always need to make an awareness check no matter how close to the ball he is.
