When the ball carrier is long gone, there is no point for linemen to engage in blocking interactions anymore.

It is ridiculous how linemen go from full energy to 0 just because of like a 50 yd run and that they are blocking the whole time 50 yds away from where the ball is. If the defender has no legitimate chance to get to the ball carrier, why not just let him go?

As a player with mostly OL I have wondered this while watching some games.

Great point! I agree totally...just release the block if the ball carrier is +20 yards down field. Actually, in real life, a holding penalty would be called if the blocker continued to hold the defensive guy while he is trying to turn around and run down field.

If we could make engaging blocks from behind either super hard or impossible i'd help.

i like my men playing until the whistle.

lol but srsly, would be kinda hard to just turn off the entire offense when HB breaks one loose.
I could see a whole slew of bugs coming from an update like this.

True, don't like bugs.

How about no, or largely reduced, energy drain the farther they are from the play, starting at 20 or so yards? Nobody intelligent is going to try 100% when they are 40 yards out like they were within arms distance of the ball carrier or anything.

This would have to be the answer- if people stop blocking, then they need to do "something" and typically it'd be "running towards the play", which also costs stamina. So it'd be less about not blocking and more about going into a lazy mode.
