A guard's first movement off the line should always be forward, not straight sideways. I really don't think this can be qualified as an awareness issue; it's just bad pathing

Do you have more than 1 replay of that play working like that? A lot of teams run that same play, including myself, and I haven't seen my G's block like that.

Your thread was about a specific play, not all block pathing.

There are more plays that people are posting, seems like a good idea to use that thread as a home for pathing bugs instead of spamming the forum. doesn't it?

Posted it in the other thread, here is some bad block pathing - http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/27556/2175774

The Guard in the OPs replay looks like he picked the blitzing LOLB before he saw the MLB plugging the hole.

In reality, that guard should fire forward, and pick up a body downfield. Instead, he "sees" the man coming off the edge and peels back to pick him up. If that were to happen in real life (I know, I know. Dirty words.) he would get his ass chewed.

You pick up that inside linebacker, and that play goes for another 5+ yards.

Just saying, if the blocking made ANY sense, then Dogs All Go wouldn't work nearly as well as it does.

If your offensive coordinators had any sense, you wouldn't have blown this play way out of proportion.

Dude, you got sacked 33 times in a LADDER GAME. Maybe youre the one without any sense?

Everyone knows Dogs All Go is the flavor of the week in Rookie because it makes it hard to run/pass. If the Gs moved FORWARD to block instead of sideways, the play would be useless against inside runs instead of overpowered in general.

Here's another example, watch the Gs.
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/28112/2378563

The LG's initial move off the line is towards the LT, running into him. The RG plows into the C. If it were a pass play, the LG would drop behind the LT and pick up the blitzing LB. Now that never happens, because the LG runs into the LT and the ROLB has a free path. In a run play, the LG should move forward into space and then decide to pick up the ROLB (who's blitzing and out of the play) or the MLB . The LG does eventually turn to pick up the MLB, but not until the HB is at the LOS. Meanwhile, the RG is running around confused rather than doing what any basic OL knows to do and get upfield. He may not have been able to get to the SS, but he should have tried.

The play ended up with a 4 yd gain, but it should have been more. More often than not, the MLB will fill the space while the G acts confused and make a stop. These running plays would work better if the Gs did basic, fundamental tasks.

Maybe it's a problem in priorities, where the G views the player 4 yds off to the side as more of a threat to the HB than the guy right in front of him. It still doesn't make any sense and it's incredibly common. I don't really see it as a build issue.

Further examples:
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/27111/2212157 (The LG is 3 yards out of the play for no reason)
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/27111/2212512 (Have you ever seen a G in real football TURN AROUND AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE ON A RUN PLAY)
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/27665/2212543 (Guard ignores two players across from him to turn around and go for the ROLB, who he doesn't get and who makes the tackle.)

EDIT: Found Soph examples too! Thanks Jampy!
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/28138/2427800 (RG doesn't affect the play, but ignored higher threat players to drop behind the T and take on a OLB)
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/28138/2428268 (RG may have cost his team 6 points here, would have been a huge hole)
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/28138/2428429 (LG drops behind the LT and is unable to make any block)

That's the perfect example paul. If the G just shoved down the middle on run plays, you could counter all dogs go.

I agree with this thread, here are some more examples:

http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/27618/2191495 (there is no way the right guard should be running away from the LB in front him)
