So I read up on ELO.

How does 155 beat 5, and only takes enough points to drop 5 to 7.

But 10 beats 9, and drops 9 to 15?

9-15 are much closer in points than 5-7.

155 and 5 are much farther away than 9 and 10.

Also, CB is still sad. Why do they always cover like they are the last man and can't get beat when they have help over the top?

gap from 1 to 10 is the same as the gap from 10 to 40ish currently. How we're meant to know this without doing all the elo calculations ourselves I have no clue.

Uh... I think CBs ought to not keep running toward goalline when ball is thrown....

They should, you know, make a play on the ball or the WR...?

Logically it takes more work to get up to 1, and the strength of the teams in top 10 are much higher than the teams in the 30s/40s.

I just don't see how a 155+ team didn't take more points from the #5 team it beat.

It's just how the elo system works (probably a rating difference of 200 which implies that the 155+ team should win 25% of the time) and by GLB hiding the numbers behind the ladder ranks we end up with these posts.

No, instead you'd get "why did losing to a ranked 155 team only make the team lose 8 elo?".

But if people could see the elo's it wouldn't be the "ranked 155 team" it would be the 1200 elo team and the 1400 elo team which are perceptively much closer than 155 and 5.

I guess I should just drop it because it's clear its ngth but there's going to be plenty more of these posts whereas instead you could just have a single FAQ explaining the elo rating system with examples for users to refer to.

I don't understand people getting so precious over the ladder and what goes into it. Can someone explain what the big deal is?

The ladder shows who is the best of the best, not just the best in your league. It's a great metric, and we want it to be valid.

Surely the ladder is valid? Are the top ten on the ladder not the top ten in the game?
