But it's been done a bunch of times. Can't the P just make some check to make sure he has enough time to punt the ball and not have it blocked?
On another side, I don't think you can block a FG or punt. I've had the ball go through our players' helmet numerous times on FG attempts.

its also common to just pooch it, maybe shorten the punt power/accuracy by 30% or something? seems ridiculous to have time then try to run the ball 30 yards

If Professionals in real life are discouraged to do it, I don't think your Joes should be doing this on design tbh.
Or you can just fix your build and watch the problem go away forever.

professionals are discouraged to do a million things they still do. if there is time to punt the ball, i'm sure coaches would encourage them to punt it rather than walk forward 3 yards. Its not as though there was a guy right on him as he got control of the ball in which case i would agree with you.

That gif is a rare case... Look at the field position the Colts are at. Don't you think that is why he decided to punt it off instead of hold on or get out of bounds? Obviously it is.
You are only saying this because it is a pretty counter intuitive concept, but it is actually correct.
If you were ever in that situation you'd probably be too scared to get the punt off.

Since you can't block punts, I don't know why we still have the sim make the attempt.
Punt returns are garbage in this sim because the Punt "blocking team" doesn't even try and block the D players, so that when the punt gets off, the Punt Return Blocking team isn't already engaged with the other team, instead they are scrambling to catch up with the punt return defenders. Then, even if they do get out in front, they have to do a 180 to get turned to face the other team, and in that moment they all blow their coverage, so the Punt Returner has an army of 9 bots in his face on every single return.
