Current playoff bracket - Who the fuck knows will add later in the season.
First write up will be looking at the season with a prediction for next week, subsequent write ups will focus on next weeks matchup.
1. Erkner Razorbacks (League 1-0, Ladder 63)
Razorbacks are once again team to beat however Regina pushed the first round championship rematch into OT. The razorbacks have little worry about chemistry wise retaining most of their players for this season. Interestingly with the win over Regina they have almost locked up Gamma division. Easy game for them next week. Week 2 prediction (Razorbacks 35 RFL 0)
2. New York Masons (League 1-0, Ladder 136)
The Masons are the team with the most potential to improve as the season progresses for three reasons:
- Plenty of chem growth left for most of the team
- Last years O MVP Zane Taylor is still a rookie (!!?! there are 10k sp points coming his way in a few weeks)
- Still have 4 roster slots left to fill out their DT, OT and FS positions.
With a tough match up next week the schedule gets much easier for the Masons until a week 6 matchup with the Rebels. Whether it's the Masons or the Black See Night Stalkers coming out on top in Alpha could come down to their second meeting in the final round of the regular season. Prediction (Masons 21 Stalkers 20)
3. Dallas Annihilators (League 1-0, Ladder 126)
Last seasons Beta div champs Dallas will look to take advantage of their unchanged roster early in the season. With a balanced roster and high chemistry across the board they'll be a hard team to knock over and look to be a strong chance at taking Beta div for the second year in a row. They'll be looking to stamp their authority on Beta with their match up against Brisbane next week where their top passing offense comes up against one of the toughest pass defenses in the league. Prediction (Dallas Annihilators 20 Brisbane Bogans 14)
4. Regina Rebels (League 0-1, Ladder 142)
Despite losing their first game the Rebels will continue to be a strong team this season. Watch for them to bounce back this week against the Armadillos. Will be strong contenders for the wild card spot again this year if they fail to knock the Razorbacks off their Gamma div perch. Prediction (Regina 42 Armadillos 0)
5. Brisbane Bogans (League 1-0, Ladder 83) (Yell at me if I'm biased here)
The Bogans showed last season that they had the defense to play with the best however their offensive scoring limited them to a very poor record. The first game showed promising signs for them as their passing attack came to life alongside their strong rushing attack. After showing the new kids on the block (Charlotte Panthers) what to expect in Cougar league the Bogans have a huge match up this week against Dallas. The outcome of this early game could have far reaching implications for Beta division towards the end of the season and Brisbane will be looking to show that their passing game was not a one hit wonder. Prediction (Brisbane 14 Dallas 20)
6. Black Sea Night Stalkers (League 1-0, Ladder 127)
Not sure what to make of the Stalkers yet, they took care of Fullerton easily this week however come up against a much stronger defense in the Masons this week. Whether this team sinks or swims could be decided over the next few weeks with 3 roster spots left to fill and could become a team to watch out for if they can reach their Regina game at 5-2 or 6-1. After that they have a difficult stretch and will need some wins in hand to compete for Alpha div or the wildcard spot. Prediction (Masons 21, Stalkers 20)
7. Charlotte Panthers (League 0-1, Ladder 173)
The Panthers are the new team this season and had a difficult start to their inaugural season with a loss to the Bogans. However they have a strong roster and once their chemistry begins to catch up in the middle of the season they could emerge as a contender in Beta Div. Definitely a candidate mid tier team at the moment with a good match up to find their feet next week against the Wolverines.
Prediction (Panthers 28 Wolverines 14)
8. Montgomery Wildcats (League 0-1, Ladder 149)
Not sure what to make of the Wildcats this season, New York handled them easily in the first week and they only have starters on O-Line. Have they dumped their Sophomore points into conditioning? Will they just get rolled late every game? There are big questions around this team and these can start to be answered by a strong showing against Fullerton this week. However a loss and it will be a long way back to contend for a play off spot. Prediction (Wildcats 17 Fullerton 10)
9. All Voractious Wolverines (League 0-1, Ladder 148)
The Wolverines have made similar roster decisions to the Wildcats this season. With 2 Punters, 2 Kickers, 8 Wide Receivers, 3 QBs and 4 HBs you have to wonder what their season plan is. Potentially this is just a auto-fill error but unless it gets sorted fast they could find themselves in a 0-2 hole to start the season. Prediction (Wolverines 14 Panthers 28)
10. Fullerton Fury (League 0-1, Ladder 140)
Another team with roster issues that need to be sorted very soon or any chance of contending for Alpha div will be gone. They do have a bit of breathing space in their schedule as they face the Wildcats before the Masons so there is time, but not much! Prediction (Fury 10, Wildcats 17)
11. RFL Boys (League 1-0, Ladder 151)
11 human players. Only reason they aren't last is because they won this week. Need to get their roster together very quickly to have a chance of the playoffs this season. Prediction (RFL 0 Erkner 35)
12. Texas State Fightin Armadillos (League 0-1, Ladder 153)
Last because they lost to an RFL boys team with 11 human players and 0 chemistry. Expect the Armadillos to rise up the rankings after a few weeks as they sort out their playcalling and fumbling issues. Very unlikely they'll be able to contain or score against Regina next week. Prediction (Armadillos 0 Regina 42)
