Mongolian Horde @ Northwest Storms.......The Storms roll into the playoffs coming off of their first of the season to the Portland Cardinals, who they also tied earlier in the season. They have no doubt breathed a sigh of relief that Portland did not get in the playoffs, but in the Horde they have drawn a team that may be just as good as the Cards, or even better with their win at Portland earlier in the season.
Head to head.....these two teams played in the 4th game of the season, also at Northwest. The result then was a 21-14 comeback win for the Storms following up their tie with Portland the week before. In that game, Horde had a 14-7 lead after 3 quarters, but couldn't hold on. With film of the Cards beating the Storms this time, will the 2nd round be the charm for Horde as well? Numbers say no,but this is playoffs. And when stats mean nothing in this game from week to week during the season why would they in the playoffs?!
If the Horde's defense holds up for all 4 quarters, the Storms' fantastic season may be over.
20-14 Horde moves on!
Hartford Rattlers @ Black Ice en Fuego......Hartford limps into this one after a win over the Warlocks that followed a loss to lowly Tulsa. Black Ice, as the hottest team in the playoffs, is on a 4 game league winning streak since their close loss to Northwest. The numbers say that Hartford should win, but as we have already discussed....stats mean almost nothing at this point. With that said, does the momentum that Black Ice carries into the playoffs mean anything either?
For a better perspective, lets take a look at the earlier meeting between these two teams. On Christmas Day, 2 touchdowns and a safety in the first half were all Black Ice needed in a 16-0 win over the Rattlers. On that day, the Rattler offense never got in sync, totaling only 20 yards rushing, with the pass game not faring much better considering the 13 sacks that Rattler QB's suffered. The high points of this game for Hartford were their defense that allowed under 300 total yards and the fact that they averaged 40.6 yards per punt. Without the ice and cold weather of that day, will the offenses heat up this time around? To the magic 8 ball.......and it says "Don't count on it". Now that we know it shall be another defensive struggle, does Hartford have any chance to go into the Black Ice and move on to the final? And.....it appears that question has broken the magic 8 ball, but moving on to ask8ball.net, the new ball says "All signs point to yes"! Good news Rattlers!! But.....that only means they have a chance. WILL they beat Black Ice, Magic 8 ball?? "As I see it, yes"......and definitely against my better judgement, I go with the 8-ball!
Hartford 10-7
(Upon further investigation, the 8 ball also agrees that Horde will defeat Storms, making me feel a tiny bit better about the Hartford pick....of course it also says my wife will take it up the butt tonight, so with the fear that my picks will be terribly incorrect, I now click "Post")
