So, this is going to be an interesting write up, and a bit different from some previous on this topic, but here you go. I understand that it simply isn't possible to pick the best without splitting into categories, so that's is what I've done. Also, for the purposes of the franchise lists, the team owner should be the same to count as the same team so Chicago Window Licking Bears count as Chicago 85' Bears.
Best Teams (1 season): These teams represent a single season's effort, as in the best team creations that we have seen. Only gold winners were considered here for the gold era.
1. SBWL Season 9- This is and has always been the standard pick and I see no reason to change it. They dominated almost every game, except 1 to Lehigh Valley Iron Hogz and were excellent overall. I don't remember them all that well, but I looked at some of their games in the past, they were the real deal.
2. Cascade Surly Goats Season 17- They did have 1 tie in the regular season to Pain Nation, but they turned in the best playoff performance ever, winning all games by 45 points or more. I actually remember playing them, they were probably the only game I knew I would lose going into playing them.
3. FGC Season 32- They're pretty much my best team ever. 1 loss outside of preseason in the tourney final to Chicago. Steamrolled through Gold with no regular season game closer than 21 points and 3 dominant playoff wins with a close one over Subversive Education.
4. SBWL Season 15- They're often forgot about because of SBWL's season 9 team, but this team was incredible. They were gold's first undefeated champion and definitely deserve this spot.
5. Whodey's Experiment Season 37- They were good, although they played a bunch of closer games than some of the above teams. Also, if they had played All Pro Falcons in the playoffs, they could have easily lost, as All Pro arguably outperformed them in their two meetings even though they lost both. Also, they just happened, it's hard to see how good they were.
Notable Omissions: Maine Grenadiers Season 20, Tombstone Outlaws Season 14, Tennessee Crabs Season 13, lol dots Season 7, Fighting Gamecocks Season 18
Best Team Eras: This section is reserved for teams that put together a series of at least 3 seasons worth of inclusion:
1. Maine Grenadiers Seasons 20-22- Obviously, with 3 straight gold titles, they are the best dynasty we've seen in pee wee. The reason they don't appear above is that they did not have an undefeated season. The only team that I considered was season 20, but they just weren't as good as some of the teams already named. However, I do believe that Maine should be considered the best pee wee franchise ever.
2. Fighting Gamecocks Seasons 29-35- This run consisted of 2 gold titles and 5 conference titles along with 2 GLB tournament titles and a bunch of other accolades. It included 4 seasons of LE and 2 before and 1 after. No team has been a top 2 team in gold so consistently for so long; however their failure to win a couple more of those title games prevent them from being the top team.
3. SBWL Seasons 9-15- This is kinda a stretch, considering SBWL was terrible in season 12, but I feel they deserve praise for 2 excellent sets of 3 seasons with that 1 bad season in between. They made 3 title games in a row from season 13-15 and were also a force in seasons 9 and 10 with many scrim and tourney wins and of course their perfect season. If their season 12 had been of the same caliber, they would have been a contender for the #1 or #2 spot, but they are completely deserving of this spot.
4. Boendby Pee Wee Bengals Seasons 23-27- They won 2 straight titles and were at or near the top for each of these seasons. Also, they're won of the few teams who even made 3 title games in a 5 season span. I remember them as a tough competitor and always a dangerous team to play.
5. Fighting Gamecocks Seasons 12-19- They never had a season lower than 14-2 in this span, but only won a single gold title and another conference title. This is clearly a team far below the quality of the other 4; however, there isn't another team that won 2 titles in a single dynasty not already mentioned, so they kinda become the default choice. Also, some of the other choices mentioned below were not around for that long and were not as viable options.
Honorable Mention: AZ Cardz Seasons 29-31, Tombstone Outlaws Seasons 12-15, Chicago Window Licking Bears Seasons 26-28, Crackertown Juniors Seasons 15-19, Crackertown Juniors Seasons 23-25, Cascade Surly Goats Seasons 16-17, Whodey's Experiment (current)
Best Overall Teams: These teams are teams that have been good or were good for a very long time and should be honored for their consistency and achievements. To make this list, you need at least 1 gold title and 1 conference title and probably at least 10 gold seasons.
1. Maine Grenadiers- As mentioned before, I think they're the best team to ever play the game even though no specific season made the first list.
2. Fighting Gamecocks- They are tied with Maine for most gold titles by a single team with 3 and have 7 conference titles which I believe is first all time. If the list were about coaches however, I would rank LE above myself because of his work with other teams.
3. Short Bus Window Lickers- They are an obvious third choice for all the reasons mentioned previously and could easily move up with more gold wins in the future.
4. Crackertown Juniors- They could have easily made either above list, but didn't as they never put together a dominant team and their 2 gold titles were so far apart. However, they were a force in gold for a very long time and always a great team.
5. Boendby Pee Wee Bengals- They are an obvious choice for the fifth team as the only remaining multi-time gold champ not already mentioned. They were very strong for a decent amount of time, but they were not a staple for as long as the teams above them, so that is why they rank here.
Honorable Mention: All Pro Falcons, Cascade Surly Goats, Lone Star, Atlanta Apocalypse, Chicago Window Licking Bears, He Hate Me, Green Bay Packerz, Crib Midgets, The Insane Asylum (original), Dharma Initiatives, Chicago 85' Bears, AZ Cardz, San Antonio Saviours, Tombstone Outlaws
