The season is more than half over, and the playoff picture is starting to shape up. Based on round-robin conference play with one non-conference game, I'm making the following assumptions (someone else may want to verify my math is correct).

1. 10 wins clinches a playoff berth. It is mathematically impossible for a 10-win team to miss the playoffs.
2. 9 losses eliminates a team from playoff contention. (I was originally going to say 7 wins, but a 7-7-2 team could conceivably qualify.)
3. Tiebreakers for playoff seeding are determined first by head-to-head matchups, then by total points scored. In most cases, total points scored will only come into play in the event two teams with identical records played to a tie during the season.

After 9 weeks, the Black Sox Ninjas, Tulsa Giants, Washington WarDogs, Bowdoin Polar Bears and South Texas Skull Crushers have been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Waller Knights, Atlanta Hitmen and Da NOLA K&B Purples can all clinch playoff berths with a win.
The Wala Wala Drunken Shriners will be in good shape with 1 win, but will need 2 wins to ensure a playoff berth due to being on the short side of the tiebreaker with the Dallas Orangebloods.
The Vermont Ice Storm will be in great shape with 1 win, holding the tiebreaker advantage against all 6-3 teams in the Eastern Conference.

If things keep going the way they have been, the Eastern Conference picture should be pretty clear within the next 2-3 games. The Western Conference will likely go down to the wire, with 7 teams within 1 game of .500.

My math was off. The actual magic number for the 3 9-0 teams right now is 3.

LA Sharks are still in it at 4-5 in the west, but it's looking like we're going to need to get to 9-7 to have any chance at post season, so not an easy road ahead

4-5 is still very much in it, but you're right. 9-7 should be enough, but you really want to finish up 6-1, if at all possible.

Yeah, things are gonna get interesting pretty quick here.
The magic number is calculated by taking the number of games the first-place team has to win in order for the 9th-place team to have no chance of overtaking them. In practice, this doesn't take into account who has already played whom.

Good stuff Reimero. RI had a big win today as did Montana and Manhattan. Looks like the west is wide open and will come down to the final week to see who is in.

The west has some very interesting games in the final week which is the cross-over game. It'll potentially be crazy to see how that shakes out.
