The World League writeup......................(Alpha....also known as the HHWC Conference!!!!)
Let us not forget that there are 2 conferences in WL.....
World League.........top of the heap, best of the best of the best of the best of the best, and much more complicated.....at least in my humble opinion.
Here are the suggestions for World League that if things are not going your way, you can refer back to.
These are called the Irresistible Truths (named after yours truly).
1. Winning a perfect season in pro does not guarantee a playoff spot in World League.
2. A perfect season in WL may mean you put forth your best effort but it does not mean you win all your games or make the playoffs.
3. Do not cry on the WL forums because there is no pity.
4. A perfect regular season in WL does not mean you will win 1 playoff game.
5. Prayers to the SIM god will no longer be heard on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Since this is occurring after the third game, we will include some excerpts from the season opener.
Here is the writeup/predictions for the World League (Alpha). Point spread will be sent out tomorrow as I am out of time today.......
Honolulu Hurricane Wife Carriers
The owner, ufshowboat (GLB'r since Mar 2008), has been in the game a long time. Seen it grow from the tiny game it began, through all the pain, and into the magnificent game it is today. The latest dealing this team has to overcome is the new crop of players from the advanced development changes. The old guys have phased out and the new guys are in. This is the defending WL league champions from last season. Came out of no where and put a whippin' on everyone all the way up the chain through the playoffs. This season, the league has decided, unofficially, to name the conference after them. So, Alpha is actually the HHWC conference, unofficially. In their last pre-season interview, they were asked if the Prime Timers in Zeta had what it takes to win in the opener, they gave an definitive NO!!! My experts predicted HHWC by 10. They won by 43. Since then, they crushed Porto and broke the Moose Jaw. Momentum is building and looks bad for their opponents. However, the Gizzlies are next. They have the capability to stop all this.....uuugh...momentum. This is a tough one. My experts have HHWC by 7, unless the Grizzlies can harness the rage and take it more strategically.
Brazilian Dirty Sanchez
This team has a lot of character; different from the name though. The owner, Boozer ( GLB'r since 4/2008) has been honing his skills to a deadly sharp edge which can cut up the most talented teams to pieces. This team has combined into the Gurupie Nation Network to harness true player talent into a really competitive agency. GLB is just so much more complex than it started out to be. I mean we got 2 more defensive formations this season. The opener this season was against a rivaled nemesis from last season who beat BDS in a SAPL league championship game that was fought to the bitter end. They lost by 7 and man it was bitter. Well the rematch was the opener this season against the Warthogs. My experts picked BDS by 14. BDS won by 34 in a shutout!!!! Sent the Hogs back home to Zeta with no dinner!!!! Fate has a way of rearing up every now and then. SIM changes and secret adjustments are suspected throughout the offseason and BDS has been working to adjust the game plan. The victims that BDS has played this season are really taking their losses hard.... Like how did that happen? and why does it hurt when I sit down? Next up are the District 9 Prawns. Cooking the Prawns, brazilian style, is what I hear from the BDS camp right now. For those that don't know, Brazilian style is spread open, cleaned, and that black stuff cleaned out. (I know what you are thinkin' but I am talking about Prawns here.) My experts have BDS by 16, but the Prawns have surprised us before.
Graz Grizzlies
This team has a big chip on their shoulder. The owner, Disastermaster (GLB'r since 3/2008) has been deeee - stroy - ing teams for some time now. When they win they get mad. When they lose, they get madder. Like a team of pissed-off incredible hulks. I checked the history books and I think this started back in a season where they lost a big game due to a sim malfunction. They blew their top then and it has been all business and maximized demolition since. They played the opener against a solid GLB team (Asau Golden Eagles) from Zeta. We believe that Asau wrote off the game even before it was played. The Grizzlies won by 31 is a epic shutout that was described as a massacre. They say that Alpha is harder this season than Zeta, and I would agree that the sheer brutality of the teams here in Alpha is evidence that may indeed be true. The shockers handed them their first loss of the season in a squeaker they won in the last minute and then.....and then...topped it off with a 2 point conversion. The clock ran out and the shockers bolted for the exit.....leaving the grizzlies to stew in their own anger. It was Coxsackie that stole their "precious" last season in round 3 of the playoffs but revenge in game 4 would still be sweet against the league champs (HHWC) from last year. My experts still have HHWC by 2, as HHWC has the power and the finesse to win. If they lose, I would not want to play this team in game 5.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
This team is no joke. The owner Hays23 (GLB'r since 6/2008) is so good, he owns 2 WL teams. Kinda like left twix vs right twix. But I digress. Hogwarts has been holding their own for some time now. Season 34 saw them lose in the first round to the conference champs Coxsackie. Wichcraft and Wizardry are in the name but let me tell you, this team studies dotball and it shows. The reason this team does not completely dominate the game is because they assume that the SIM has no flaws. And it is these flaws in the SIM that cost them. My experts fore warned Venom in the opener....and I quote.."That (Hogwarts) is a team not to be underestimated." My experts also chose Hogwarts by 27 in the opening game. Hogwarts won the game by 10 (but the score was 27 to 17). Coxsackie in game 4.....Hmmmmm...... My experts have Hogwarts by 8, as we think you are just on the cusp of that chemistry difference.
Cincinnati Shockers
The owner MadMustaff, from Apr 2008, needs no introduction. Another owner who has 2 outstanding teams in WL. Drew an interesting first game where he had to play with himself....I mean against himself, going for the excitement over the win. Well, he owned both teams. The experts could not decide who would win because 6 on one hand, half a dozen on the other. My team of experts went with Odessa Mojo in the opener because of the tie breaker stat. And I quote: " My team of experts say it is a tie because they say both teams are going for the excitement factor over the actual win. So we move to the tiebreaker factor..... Do we favor Cinredfan over Hickster. The "Gut instinct dudes" like Hickster more. So there it is. Odessa by 7 over the Shockers." End quote. Odessa won by a little more than 7 but we really were not counting that game. Everybody knew each other. Not to take away anything from MadMustaff as this owner has won more WL titles that I can count. Then next games tell a bigger story where they beat, I mean squeaked by, the Grizzlies in the last minute and left the Moose Jaws gaping open wondering how they missed all those tackles......OOOOOhhhhh.... Anyway, more is expected from this team but this team is only concerned at this time to make the playoffs. My experts have Evil Inc by 5 in game 4, not because TruthHammer says it will be so, but because the "Force" formula ((global rank difference / chemistry difference) - the random factor.) which is ((22/7) - (-2))=5) says it will be so.
Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated
The owner, TruthHammer (GLB'r since 12/2009 - a baby). We all know that everybody likes TruthHammer. And Evil Inc.....is not really evil....it actually fights evil. Lost last season to the Definition of Insanity. Imagine that, insanity beating Evil.... Hmmmmm....moving on..... I will say that the record last season was quite impressive. But that does not mean you will dominate in WL. But, you did extinguish the Duckies and negate all the spells of Hogwarts. The Duckies did boast in the forums before game one...so they took the loss pretty hard. Another item is......SIM changes were suspected in the Coxsackie loss but you did not hear that from me. The sacks and fumbles were...... were...... were..... stutter, stutter....nothing.....I cannot self terminate. Whew!!! Got stuck again... And I digress again. We have you in a close game against the Shockers in game 4. My experts have you by 5, because the "Force" formula ((global rank difference / chemistry difference) - the random factor.) which is ((22/7) - (-2))=5) says it will be so. Good luck.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
The owner, Dpride59 (GLB'r since 9/2008), has been a part of the game since the real beginning. Chocolate Blaze, Halifax, and other legendary teams. Much respect. My advice.....uuugh.....I got nothing. Just went blank. I can tell you what I told the other team in the opening game (Miami Red Hawks). Let's start with that. And I quote.... "UFC is prepared so it does not look good for you in the opener. My experts have UFC by 13.". End quote. You beat them by 54 points. I am happy to report that they have recovered and are getting much better now. Last season, your team was beat by BDS in the 3rd pound of the playoffs. And after a perfect season to that point. <<squint...squint >> BTW, if it means anything, I heard that BDS was real sorry about that. I was not going to select you to win game 4 but jdbolick said not to make you mad...... So I am happy to report that My experts have UFC by 3 in game 4 over STEEL City Mafia even though you are not putting the promotions out there like you should and the players are a bit older.
Offtopica Miracle
The owner, yello1 (GLB'r since 3/2008) has a lot on the plate this season. A really cool owner with lots of new players and agents. Looking at builds, play changes, formation changes, VA changes, and keeping track of the different teams. The offtopica network is big and somewhat cumbersome. But, as the name says, do your best and wait for the miracle. And it happened last season... They beat DIG, Prime Timers, La Flama, to win it all last season. But, there is a huge change from Pro to WL. The loss to Benin in the opener was tough. FG in the last 18 seconds. It was not the FG that hurt, but the Superman/Wonder-Woman 22 yard pass into double coverage that really dug in. Sorry that happened. Offtopica was actually selected to win the opener. They did not give a point spread though...which was interesting. My experts have you by 2 in game 4. We like your defensive team over the E-City offensive team. Get the wins for the playoffs early as it will get harder as the season progresses.
STEEL City Mafia
The owner, 7steeladonis (GLB'r since 12/2008) has been at work to make this team what it is today. Sometimes carrying it on his back. Has not been easy as I have seen/competed against this team several times throughout their journey to WL. I do agree with you that it is only a matter of time. WL last season, went 8 and 8 and managed to back back into WL again. Don't know if they were really prepared to do all this again....but here you are. Bad luck in the opening drew Sunday Funday, a super team in Zeta that, incidentally, has the highest level of player stat scrutiny in WL. You were expected to lose by 6. You lost by 12 but no one is really counting. Chemistry was a big factor in that game and the win in game 3 brought you back. My experts have your opponent, UFC, by 10 in game 4 because of the jdbolick factor. I could be wrong but you will have to prove if I am. Your OC really believes you can win the game and is not to be taken lightly. I cannot say anymore. Good luck!!!! (Side note: What happened to The Orbical? Where did he go?) Note: Word on the street is I have called this particular game completely wrong. That would suck.
E-City Mercenaries
The owner, Zickzack (GLB'r 3/2008) has been around for a while. Although, if I recall correctly, took some time out away from GLB while he "waited for the game to mature." so our information is not all consistent over time...and that is what I know at this time. That can happen. Well, you are back in WL now!!! A little more is now known about you now....all good.....however; in the opener La Flama was selected to win by a 5 point spread. The experts said you are new to WL and still green around the expectations in WL..... Turn out they were very wrong. Gonna get the stick out and find out where the mis-information came from. Mistakes can cost you big. My experts would have never picked you to beat STEEL City Mafia with that chemistry, but we have seen weirder things happen. Besides, missed tackles loses games and SCM missed alot of tackles that game. Moving on....we went with Offtopica by 2 in game 4. We know the experience of the Offtopica team and mistakenly believed it was more than yours and we were covering our reputation to predict games.....so....nothing personal......but based on what we did see that you beat Republic of Benin in a tournament game, we now think it is a higher possibility for you to win, but chemistry is not counted there and still will be a factor that has not swayed our prediction. I could be wrong. We will get more information on you as the season progresses. Good luck.
Coxsackie HOOD Hugos
The owner, jesusbong (GLB'r since 8/2008) is widely known and respected not just in the HOOD network, but other networks as well. Too much history there to go into...but much respect. This team needs no introduction and basically keeps the game honest. Can't be on cruise to beat this team. As the chemistry improves, the expectation will get higher. You have one of the hardest schedules in Alpha.....I mean the HHWC conference, as any losses will compound. This may not be the season where morale counts as much, so you may be in luck. My experts had you by 4 in the opener against the Kings Men. But "The King of Bling" had his clothes on and he made you drink the "Juice" to the tune of 152 yards. Just saying..... We have Hogwarts in game four by 8 because that chemistry is not there just yet. Good luck and it is believed that the tide will turn after game 5.
Definition of Insanity
What a team name. Cannot blame you for the win or the loss. Interesting. The owner, Magic Mike (GLB'r since 10/2008) has been around a while. Just a little while. Lots of wisdom here. Came from the European league where the games were on a different day. Decent effective levels and perfect chemistry. Came into WL like you should. It was not your fault getting the Dogs of War and BDS in the first 2 games. My experts had the Dogs of War by by 8. They won by 27. You got better against BDS in game 2 and came to win in game 3. Keep that momentum going. Not enough is known about you guys at this time. We have you by 14 in game 4 against Moose Jaw. Good luck!!! Enjoy the game because after game 4 you ride the 5 game gauntlet of pain!!! Followed by the HHWC climax in game 10. If you are still in the running at that time, then we know you belong in WL.
South Side Mafia
I know you guys, The owner, jakobnielsen (GLB'r since 5/2009) has been working up to WL. Lots of hard work and persistence went into this team. Beat UFC in game 2....and by 29 points. That was a shocker!!!! Bad luck drew the New Orleans Gurupies in a close game 1 (and it was close) and BDS in game 3. Don't wish that combo on anyone. We have you by 12 in game 4 against Porto...as their team is in a little disarray during the adjust to WL. Couple of wins should put you in a good position going forward. Give it all you got now because your schedule also gets much harder later on. Good Luck.
District 9 Prawns
The owner, drewd21 (GLB'r since 3/2008) has been around a long time and the team has had a few different owners over the seasons. This team is interesting. Even though an underdog in the opener, the Prawns were selected to win by 2. That was based on a favorable SIM expectation factor that is random and can change a game in subtle ways. Basically, my experts think the Prawns are "lucky", if there is such a thing in GLB. Here is a quote from the game 1 prediction. "(Carthage Clash) Up against the Prawns in the season opener may seem like an easy win but the Prawns seem to know what you (Carthage Clash) know and are expecting everything you got. No surprises here, either way, so we have to base this one on the SIM expectation factor. Word on the street says that MadMustaff from the Mojo already knows the outcome. The experts are going with that and the SIM analysts say it confirms their reports. Prawns by 2 to make it look close. " They beat Carthage by 21. Was not close. So we know these guys have what it takes. I think the chemistry factor kicked activated in games 2 and 3 and these guys are in a gentle slide. You need traction. But BDS is probably not the place you are going to get it. My experts have BDS by 16 in game 4. Sorry, but on a lighter note, there will be a game 5.
Moose Jaw Roughriders
The owner, O'HappyCow (GLB'r since 6/2008) has been trying to get this team together. A lot has fallen to the co-owner Wikod who has really stepped up to the plate. Or so I have heard. The three game losing streak has got to be turned around....and quickly. The chem is not looking good and has put you in a tough spot early in the season. I mean you played the mice in the opener followed by the Shockers and HHWC. Who did you cross to get that schedule? And the next game is against a team that has not only admitted to the madness, but actually defined it. They are INSANE!!!!. My experts have predicted them by 14 in game 4. Good Luck. You have to turn this around. Call out the Rusty Trombone!!!!! My advice is for you to build a shrine to the SIM god in your stadium. Can't hurt.
Porto People Eaters
The owner, Tactical Genius (GLB'r since 3/2008) is a good owner and actually has a very good team. They are just frazzled right now as the impact of being in WL is really setting in. I see you guys out there in the forum praying for advice. Get your brain trust together and formulate a plan. This is WORLD LEAGUE!!! You fight till the end!!! Make the opponent pay for every yard you give up. Pull the Al Pacino inches speech from the movie Any given Sunday!!!! More scrimmages!!! We chose the cult team by 9 in the opener. They won by 8. Look on the bright side, it was close. My experts chose South Side Mafia by 12 in game 4. You had to know WL would be super competitive. Sorry you ended up in the Alpha, sorry HHWC, conference as it is really tough.
I think that is it for the words.....................My guess for the season end is as follows below.
If you disagree....please send your suggestions to ufshowboat...owner of "HHWC"
He owns the team and the conference (Jorts and Choads included) so there is a chance you will get an answer....NOT!!!
The predicted ranking as they are seen.........by me............ (this is preliminary till after Game 5 when we get more data)
1. HHWC
2. Graz Grizzlies
3. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
4. Brazilian Dirty Sanchez
5. Definition of Insanity
6. Cincinnati Shockers
7. Ultimate Fighting Championship
8. Coxsackie HOOD Hugos
9. Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated
10. OffTopica Miracle
11. E-City Mercenaries
12. STEEL City Mafia
13. District 9 Prawns
14. South Side Mafia
15. Porto People Eaters
16. Moose Jaw Roughriders
Good luck this season everyone.
NO PITY FOR THE WEAK!!!!!!
Game Face!!!!! .
Scripts updated. The next step is the playoff picture. After game 5 as the separation between the have dots and have not dots comes into focus.
We have a few early predictions.......HHWC and Gras Grizzlies pre-selected to the playoffs.
Let us not forget that there are 2 conferences in WL.....
