First off, congrats to the Spaniard Kings, winners of the Season 32 edition of the LVIT, and to the Margaritaville Rum Pirates and Far Tammers, who came in second and third, respectively. The tournament went quite smoothly and I think everyone had a good time.

Anyway, we'll be running it again next season in the University leagues with similar qualifying criteria. Here's the relevant information:

It will be a 20 team tournament, with the following format:

Group Play - Days 1-16: 4 groups of 5 teams each will play round-robin format, one game between each team in the group, for a total of 4 games per team. Thus, each group plays a total of 10 games, and 40 games across all groups. Groupings will be determined at random, but depending on the makeup of the field, may be rigged so as to avoid intra-conference matchups.

Bracket Play - Days 17-32: The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the bracket portion of the tournament. Entries into the bracket, and seeding, will be determined first by record. The tiebreakers are, first, head to head, second (in the case of a 3-way tie), point differential, third, points allowed, fourth, points scored, and fifth, a coin flip.

Match Format:

All games must be ranked, and must NOT include home team abilities or salary-based morale bonuses. Group play games must NOT use playoff-style overtime rules, as ties are allowed. Bracket play games MUST use playoff-style overtime rules.

Automatic Qualification:

The following teams will automatically qualify for the Las Vegas Invitational provided they are (1) in the University leagues in season 33; (2) do not gut so as to fail to field a competitive team; and (3) accept the invitation:

-All conference champions in the 5 Prep leagues (thus, a maximum of 10 teams).
-All teams in the top 10 of the Prep team rankings at the end of Day 40 of this season (if they did not already qualify via league play).
-Las Vegas White Tigers as tournament host (if they did not already qualify under the previous 2 criteria).**

So, in theory, if every team that won their conference remained operational and accepted the invitation, and no teams that won their conference ended in the top 10, and all of THOSE teams accepted the invitation, we wouldn't have any at-large spots (**and in that case, Las Vegas would not receive an automatic qualifying berth if they did not otherwise qualify).

But, that's pretty unlikely. So, any spots that are not filled by automatic qualifiers will be at-large. Teams that do not automatically qualify may sign up to be considered for an at-large bid, and bids will be granted based on merit, using any available and relevant information, including team strength and past performance. Just for reference, 9 of the 20 teams in the Season 32 edition were at-large teams, so it's definitely worth signing up to be considered.

-------------------------------------------------------

We have a private forum where team owners and anyone else they would like to have access will be invited. Here's the process, assuming my power doesn't get knocked out by another preposterously destructive storm:

END of Day 40: Automatic qualifiers decided. Owners of teams who have automatically qualified, either through rankings or through conference championships, will be PMed.

Day 41: Applications for at-large bids will be accepted beginning on this day.

Day -6: Deadline for both:
----Acceptances of automatic bids
----Applications for at-large bids

Day -5: At-large bids considered and team owners sent PMs. Several alternates will also be determined on this date in case a team later drops out. I will NOT be making any decisions prior to this date, so as to allow all teams sufficient time, if necessary, to recruit.

Day -4: Groups will be announced on this date.

Day 1: Earliest date teams are allowed to schedule a group game. Each team will play 4 games in their group.

Day 16: ALL GROUP GAMES must be played by this date. That is 4 games in 16 days, should be doable. Games do NOT need to be evenly spaced, you could even run them all on the same day as you want, so long as each team ends up playing each other team in its group once. Bracket will be announced on this date, though once your group standings are determined you'll know where your team will be on the bracket.

Day 17-22: Quarterfinals

Day 23-28: Semifinals

Day 29-32: Championship & 3rd Place Game

There will be some flexibility with the scheduling, but I consider it important to complete the championship prior to league playoffs.

Sure. Simply put, there's 3 ways into the tournament:

1. Win your conference. You guys have a solid team, you've got a shot.
2. Finish in the top 10 in the Prep rankings. Where you are right now that's unlikely.
3. If you are unable to do either of the first two, PM me starting Day 41 to enter your team for an at-large bid. I'll select the teams based on all available factors, including both roster makeup (fullness of roster and average player value) and Season 32 performance (league, tournament, and scrim performance). You guys would have a pretty good shot depending on how many teams sign up, since you have some competitive results in ranked scrims against teams in the competitive leagues. Your loss by only 15 to Death Valley looks particularly good since they came in 4th in the LVIT in season 32. And, of course, your league results look quite good.

OK, we have our first 10 automatic qualifiers based on conference championships. These teams can either accept or decline their bid, via PM to me. I will be sending PMs to the owners of these teams tonight, please get back to me as soon as you can. The rest of the automatic qualifiers will be determined by the top 10 in the rankings at the end of the season. As it stands right now, 7 of the top 10 already qualified by winning their conference, so if the season ended right now, only 3 more automatic bids would be handed out based on top 10, plus the automatic bid to Las Vegas as tournament host. That would leave 6 spots open for at-large bids even if all automatic bid teams accepted.

Here are the Season 32 Prep Conference Champions, who receive automatic bids:

Glass City Fightin' Thundercats
Statwhoring Thunder Shmucks Extravaganza!
Kansas Koyotes
Spaniard Kings
Algoma B1G Legends
For Those About To Rock
HM Funny Lions
Long Live The Fighters!
Crackertown Oregon
Mumbai Honey Badgers

Once again, I'll be PMing the owners of those teams tonight.

Well we have an agent that is pulling a Harry Houdini on us, and is taking 15 dots with him. We had no clue until today. The chances of filling that many spots is slim. So it looks like we will likely have to re-start again, and just field our own players. Really sucks, because we had a decent squad, and were looking forward to carrying this team all the way thru. Anyways..maybe we will get lucky in the next couple days, and get a bucket load of great dots, but chances are, we won't be seeing you all again. Good luck, and great games

always hate when that happens. It's the downside of bringing 1 agent in with a bunch of dots, even if he is a great dot builder. even more confusing though with the success of the team. GL on the replacements or the reboot

Well, that kinda sucks. In any case, you have until the end of Day -6 next season to let me know regarding the tournament, so, there's no rush.

I already am eliminating Yuma (who would have automatically qualified as tied for 10th in the rankings) because their roster is now empty. I'll check in on it to make sure it wasn't just a mistake with contracts or something, but gutted teams get excluded (that doesn't include one agent leaving with a bunch of players like happened with Kansas). Mumbai might be in the same situation, not sure, jcbroman's players (he posted above in this thread) haven't re-signed, and they automatically qualified by winning their conference too.

FYI folks, there were 5 teams, not counting Yuma, but counting New Bedford (tied with Cajamarca for 10th) who automatically qualified by finishing in the top 10 in the rankings. Plus that means Las Vegas automatically qualifies as tournament host since they get the first spot available after the other automatic qualifiers, and there will be spots available. One team has declined so far, 8 have accepted. So, we're waiting to hear from 7 teams, and there will be a minimum of 5 at-large spots open, even if all 7 of those teams accept.

At-large signups are officially open (I did take a couple signups early for that, though it doesn't make a difference since I don't make the decision for another week and a half, and it did result in Cajamarca trying to sign up for an at-large spot and later finding out they automatically qualified, lol). Just send me a PM if you want to be considered.
