First we take a look at the Zeta conference. This was a weird week in Zeta. 6 out of 8 games were shutouts. Only one game was decided by fewer than 20 points (and it was decided by 19). The haves and have nots in this conference are becoming crystal clear at this point. The records may be a little misleading amongst those contenders though. Anyway, to the games this week...

Gibraltar Wild Monkeys 0 Ironton Tanks 46
Once again, Ironton does it with their defense, allowing a stingy 1.1 yards per carry and forcing 4 turnovers. The defense even got in on the scoring on this play by cornerback Pat Young.

Downey Vikings 0 Chelsea Cardinals 63
Downey never had a chance as they hosted the Cardinals from Chelsea. The Cardinals went to the air early, and quarterback Dave Rosenbaum struck for three early touchdowns. Then, they turned to their ground game to close it out, churning out over 400 rushing yards. This play by receiver Paul Hart midway through the first quarter was an indicator of how this one was heading.

Munich Maulers 26 Bay Area Invaders 7
The closest game of the day in the Zeta conference wasn't really that close. The Invaders managed a touchdown on an outstanding run after the catch by receiver Joao Victor, but they couldn't muster up anything else to match up with the Maulers. Mistakes on offense spelled doom for Bay Area in this one, with Munich coming away with 6 interceptions (two apiece by corners Lawrence Steele and Dillon Bauer). This touchdown catch and run by Fear Factor was the direct result of a Steele interception.

Eindhoven Breakers 0 Helsinki Hammers 23
Helsinki put together plenty of offense to come away with the victory here. Their defense held the Breakers to just 23 yards rushing and less than 200 total yards of offense on the day. Hammers' running backs Rhino and Miles combined for 134 yards on 30 carries. Fullback Morris added this touchdown in the second half to further cement the Helsinki victory.

Liege Red Roosters 0 Rome Bulls 66
Ryan Periloux led the offense assault for the Bulls, finishing the game with 183 yards and 3 touchdowns. The final points tallied in this game came with less than a minute remaining in regulation. Jett Walker intercepted this Rooster pass and took it 56 yards back for the score.

Brighton Bears 45 Copenhagen Razorbacks 0
Copenhagen was overmatched as they visited Brighton this week. The Razorback offense could get no traction against the Bears' smothering defense. The Bears held the opposing offense to just 68 yards from scrimmage on the game, negative yardage rushing. On one of the biggest plays of the day, the Brighton fullback McDuck breaks free and rumbles his way for 26 yards and a score.

Hamburg Parrots 0 Italian Stallions 66
The Stallions rolled to another win today, preserving their perfect record on the season. The Parrots finished the game with 1 rushing yard, and Italy 461. Private Pyle did the heavy lifting for the Stallions, carrying the load to the tune of 245 yards and 5 touchdowns. This play marked Pyle's FOURTH touchdown of the first half.

Camelot Kings 44 Rockaway Knights 13
Rockaway tried to hang in this one early but simply couldn't keep pace with the prolific Kings offense. Camelot piled up nearly 500 yard of total offense and were led by Speed Pike's three touchdowns. Speed Pike started the game off by breaking into the endzone from just inside the 10 here, giving Camelot an early 7-0 lead.

Now on to the Alpha conference. Some big games this week in Alpha. The Rippers faced another tough test in Amsterdam this week. There are several teams below Whitechapel that look plenty dangerous, proving this isn't just a 1 team conference. Zeta is probably more talented at the top than Alpha, but Alpha conference appears it might be more competitive all the way down the line. It does appear to be the week of the shutout as there were three more in Alpha, some closer games overall though. Let's get into it...

Paris Penguins 0 Madrid Hares 34
The Hares have had some tough luck this season and are undoubtedly happy to start off the second half with a win. No reprieve for the Penguins though, as Paris goes down again. Three first-half touchdowns by the Hares was enough to get rid of any doubt as the outcome of this one. Penn E. Traton caught two touchdown passes in that stretch then returned this punt 83 yards in the fourth quarter for his third touchdown of the game.

Ljublana Chamois Scabs 0 Scotland Celtics 17
The Celtics are earning a reputation for this hard-nosed style of play. A stingy defense and bruising running attack seems to at the least give them a chance for victory in every game. Gary McSheffrey accounted for nearly half of the 46 rushing attempts by Scotland, finishing with 80 yards and even punching it into the endzone here from one yard out half way through the first quarter.

Berlin Blitzkrieg 41 Cherry Valley Wizards 17
Cherry Valley scored first, Losman hitting Losman for this 54 yard touchdown pass on the game's first play from scrimmage.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=8453828
Berlin came roaring back though and answered the early Wizard scores with some of their own, carrying a 14-10 lead into the locker room. The second half was all Blitzkrieg in which they added another 27 points to their score. Berlin even had a big play of their own with this pass from tirsoj mccoy to Jaxon Dean in the third quarter.

Tilburg Fighters 6 Liverpool Scousers 31
Scouser quarterbacks Tarkington and McLovin led the Scousers to an easy victory this week against Tilburg. The Scouser signal callers combined to go 25 for 35 for 201 yards and a touchdown. Tarkington capped the opening Liverpool drive with this short pass to Crazy Baby.

Judah Lions 10 Barcelona Bulls 38
Judah put together a couple scoring drives late in the game but they fell under the categories of too little and too late. The Bulls carried their 21-0 halftime lead to notch their second straight victory. Barcelona's McLovin completed 16 of his 21 passes for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Bulls. This, McLovin's second touchdown pass, pushed the Bulls lead to 28-0 midway through the third quarter.

Rotterdam Harbourmasters 37 West Yorkshire Bling 7
West Yorkshire struck first with a 20 yard touchdown run by Kong John, but was soon left in the dust by Rotterdam. A balanced attack by the Harbourmasters, amassing 280 rushing yards and 246 passing yards, was more than the Bling could handle. Joshua Mack led all scorers with his 3 rushing touchdowns, the first one came here with 8:10 remaining in the first period to answer the Bling touchdown.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=8454658

Massillon Grizzlies 26 Zurich Gnomes 0
The Gnomes were on the bad end of this lopsided score, and the Grizzlies kept themselves in good position for the second half of the season push for playoff seeding. The defense did it all for Massillon today, including picking up a scrappy touchdown to give them an early lead.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=8448859

Whitechapel Rippers 17 Amsterdam Fire 3
Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated matchups at this point in the season, and the game was no disappointment. Trading field goals in the second quarter left the team's knotted at 3 coming out for the second half. Whitechapel broke the tie score on this 41 yard pass to Lucas Passehl.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=8456343
The Fire's bid to answer the big play by the Rippers ended abruptly when Alvin Thompson picked up this loose ball to cut short their follow-up offensive possession.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=8456530
Whitechapel would go on to add another touchdown to secure the victory and their spot atop the Alpha conference leaderboard.

The Camelot Kings are really coming around, I expected their game against Rockaway to be a lot closer than what it was.. the Tanks still have both of them on our schedule for the season, that should keep us on our toes.

The Cardinals are soldiering up for our end of season trip down murderers' row. We even have to play one of the better Alpha conference teams in the Scousers to close the season.

I do not know enough to predict the Zeta Conference, but I will weigh in on the Alpha:

Amsterdam 23 Ljublana 17
Zurich 10 Paris 21
Madrid 7 Barcelona 38
Cherry Valley 0 Rotterdam 51
Scotland 48 Tilburg 7
Liverpool 34 Berlin 3
West Yorkshire 23 Massilon 20
Whitechapel 31 Judah 10

Obviously these are all arguable, but these are just my thoughts. We will see how close any of these predictions actually are. Good luck to all teams in game 10!!
