The Blica Bulletin: Issue 7 - "Ripped" of Momentum--The Amazing Disappearing QB?

St. Michaels - Coming off an embarrassing defeat in the fins of Wales Whales, the Blicas looked to come out with vengeance and relinquish any momentum they've had. The days leading up to todays game, an unbearable silence overwhelms the locker room; Similar to the wild wild west, excluding the drifting tumbleweed and the "face off" music. Would silence be the answer? Or will the lack of motivation be their demise for yet another defeat on the green grass and roaring fans in Yorkshire?

Prior to entering the field for the first time on the day, Thomas Bucknasty led the team in the speech with encouraging, yet the out-most simplistic motivational speech that should be enough to move the feet of the dwindling Blicas. "The way I see it; The season starts now.", before Thomas led the team through the tunnel, entering the smoke in which surrounds "The Graveyard". Enthralled by over 10,000 fans booing their presence on the field, T E works the side lines, sweat dripping, the adrenaline racing through his veins, he looks to the offense and says; "Not to put any stress on anyone, but this game is a MUST win.!"

Both sides gear up for the kick; Gazoo Gramatica raises his arm signaling the start of the game..AND THE KICK IS IN THE AIR! Of all players, Gazoo was the first man on a war path, storming down to wrap up his first tackle of the season. When a kicker posts the first tackle on the day, the minds of the offense must be rattled, as the Blica defense SHUTS DOWN the overall affective passing game of the Rippers, led by Julian Beauford in the first drive close the drive in 4 plays. Coming to the field with impressive momentum, the Blica offense gear up for a tedious game plan to go against the #3 Passing Defense in the conference. Opening the drive is Bary Sanders running a simple pitch to the right, rushing for a 5yd pickup, the pendulum is motion...Leading the Blica offense on a six minute: nine second opening drive led by the arm of Eric MartinQB completing an array of passes over the middle and up the right side connecting with the TE's to move the ball with force ending in a 19yd field goal by Gazoo Gramatica.

The bar has been set, as the Rippers take the field for a second time today, after running into a secondary wall the Blicas had posted in the opening drive. Over viewing the defensive side, Julian Beauford looks to lead a ground game into what normally is a very feasible defensive line. The snap; Julian sits in the pocket while his backs and receivers scramble for position, the Zone in place, placing men in all available gaps, Julian pushes a pass towards Billy Wizzz only to be deflected by (CB) Afro Samuraii. It's apparent the receivers are warm enough to get in route quick enough to get their steps on the defense. Gearing up for the ground, Admir Hasicic & Willie Speed are left inches from completing the 3rd down, resulting in a punt.

A tired offense returning to the field fifty-nine seconds after leaving, St. Michaels time consuming offense looks to move another great drive, eating at the clock into the 2nd Quarter. Gearing up for what turns into an eighteen play drive, ending with a 21yd FG by Gazoo Gramatica; Eric MartinQB knows he's got the heart to make the completions, landing the ball in the hands of his reliable receivers, mixing up the field completing all over the field, in addition to successful rushing drives by the Blica backs.

After three unsuccessful drives, could the third time be the charm for the Yorkshire Rippers? I'm sure Julian Beauford had a few words for his offense because they came out swinging. Both teams are still fairly fresh, as both outings had been less than one minute long, so anything can happen at this point. Whatever it may have been Julian said to his offense, they came out to redeem themselves in a fury in front of their home crowd, posting an eleven play drive resulting in a touchdown by Super Mario Manningham after a magnificent break-away post route leaving (CB) You Can Hate Me chasing him into the endzone. With a well mixed running to passing game, Julian seemed to find the right combination, because the Rippers landed a Touchdown/Field Goal in almost every drive throughout the game. With the major contributions from (WR) Taryq Filipovic, (WR) Super Mario Manningham, (HB) Admir Hasicic & (K) Drew Ireland.

The story on the day sits on the mystery to the disappearing Eric MartinQB, after running a successful offense in the first quarter and 1/3 of the 2nd, Eric seemed to have disappeared from the field, only to return one more time for three plays in the 3rd Quarter, leaving the relief QB, Brian McKinley in for forty-one plays and no relief. Personal choice, or GLB's CPU Simulation doing....? Whatever it may be, both sides after viewing the game will tell you; "It's what cost the game for St. Michaels Blicas." Brian played a good game himself, but jumping from sixteen plays/game to forty-one is a big jump for any quarterback. This led to the Rippers picking up three interceptions (Devin Hester JR JR, Lika Gluv & warrick williams), and hurrying the offensive line at every opportunity, meeting the failure they've faced time and time again on offense.

When it came time to deciding the "Player of the Game", The Blica Bulletin couldn't put their finger on one individual. The impressive guidance and leadership of (QB) Julian Beauford moving the ball for 190.5yds with 1 TD, landed him one of the slots, as their defensive trio (DE) warrick williams [1 INT, 1 TFL], (DT) Hamza Filipovic [2 Sacks] & (CB) Devin Hester JR JR [8 Tackles, 4 PD, 1 INT] landed them "The Players of the Game"

Next week the St. Michaels Blicas gear up to face the 1-6-0 Turin Blue Jays at home in The Mile High Blica. This game will be a decisive move for either team looking to redeem themselves in any hopes of climbing up the rankings in the Zeta Conference. Last time these two teams met, was in Season 2, with the Blicas leaving out on top with a 7-0 win in Turin. Look for redemption and "revenge" in this game.
