Texan’s Week 1 Picks

Usual disclaimer: this is my opinion only. If you don’t like it, I still love you.

Welcome to inter-conference week. We are celebrating with an 80s new wave theme. You know you love it.

Picks record this season: 0-0

Inter-Conference

Game of the Week

Machu Picchu Hidden Dragons (0-0) v Providence Radicals (0-0)
Two returning WL veterans collide in a matchup of two Power Poll teams. One of these titans will start off with a loss. Hey, Everybody Wants to Rule the World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-O3kYrDPbI League but only one team per season actually gets that chance. They missed playing each other last season in different conferences but get that 1/16 chance this time around for the inter-conference matchup. I am looking for a dominant MPHD defense to make the difference. MPHD 23, Providence 17

Other Games

Moosejaw Roughriders (0-0) v Queensland Exiles (0-0)
Many time WL veteran MJ hasn’t really looked like themselves this preseason in givng up truckloads of points while Queensland has looked pretty solid. On top of that Queensland is serving free nachos. Doom and gloom for MJ? New d-coordinator for MJ, Catch22 say Relax http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyl5DlrsU90 it’s all gonna be fine with that new zone D come time for real games. Tbh, I don’t really know what to make of this one, it should be interesting. MJ 35, Queensland 31

Sumatra Seahawks (0-0) v Canton Immortals (0-0)
Sumatra has been a bit up and down with their play in the lolpreseason but overall kinda meh. Canton on the other hand has looked ok and they are the kind of team that likes to start the regular season with a bang. I could be a bit off base here, but I kinda expect for Canton to go all Psycho Killer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuKxofQfraE&feature=fvst in this game. Who knows though, there have been so many changes this off season. Canton 42, Sumatra 20

C-Town MF’n Hood (0-0) v Honolulu Hurricane Wife Carriers (0-0)
Hood anyone? Not so much last season when they lost to HHWC 51-38. Their play has been less than inspiring in the lolpreseason but hey it’s lol for a reason. Still, they do keep making Promises Promises http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJP2PH8WKaI to step on anyone in their way, so we’ll see. HHWC everyone knows is a legend of GLB and possibly the top team of all time. Ya they’re still good too. HHWC 38, Hood 21

Carthage Mad Clash (0-0) v Sofia Spiders (0-0)
I keep talking about preseason and prior seasons because it’s all we have right now but I’ll tell you, Sofia has looked outstanding to this point. Carthage not as much. It could be that Carthage has been doing nothing but experimenting with the changes and messing around with some West End Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3j2NYZ8FKs though. Even so, I’d be hard to pick against a good looking Sofia D right now. Sofia 27, Carthage 17

Korb Destroyers (0-0) v Eastern European Alliance (0-0)
It means nothing but these two teams have been lolpreseason superstars. They are also both in my initial Power Poll (to cries of overrated by some). One of those rankings is going to look good and the other not so much after this unless it’s a super close affair. I’ll be watching closely to see in which team my True Faith http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og1HAkjOuL0 should reside. Korb 38, EEA 31

Cincinnati Shockers (0-0) v Krakow Ice Dragons (0-0)
Krakow has looked better in preseason play than I thought they might. Quality guys running that organization never fail to surprise, so I guess I shouldn’t be, uh, surprised. Cincy though looks like it has the potential to be a playoff threat this season, perhaps even a second or third round type team. Those are some Sweet Dreams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJE_Sc1Wags but they are responsible for making them come true. Cincy 42, Krakow 28

Krungthep Garudas (0-0) v Rosarica Titans of Fire (0-0)
Very quietly, multi-time WL veterans Krungthep stuck for the first time and even looked dangerous in their first round playoff loss. They haven’t looked too dangerous so far this preseason but they’ve got some top notch coordinators. RTF has been a bit of a difficult read but they appear to be a pretty middle of the pack squad. I’ll Save A Prayer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Uxc9eFcZyM that I’m wrong about one of them and they make a move up the charts. Krungthep 27, RTF 24

Milwaukee Juggernaughts (0-0) v Paris Musketeers (0-0)
Serving nachos in Paris? Sacré bleu! Hey, I’ll Melt With You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuN6gs0AJls and that delicious nacho cheese, wth. Paris seems to be getting things figured out for the new season and the Juggs? Not as much unless they’re playing possum. Could be. I’m going to assume not for now though. Paris 34, Juggs 27

The Drunken Addicts of Omerta (0-0) v Somaila Pirates (0-0)
Having spent some time watching Omerta against dots that I know, I come away feeling that they’ve got a shot to compete for a playoff spot. A good shot even. Somalia looks like no slouch either though, so I’m not expecting either team to just come out and Whip It http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xbt30UnzRWw in this one. Should be fairly close. Should be and reality often differ though. Omerta 42, Somalia 28

E-City Mercenaries (0-0) v East St. Louis Tire Fires (0-0)
ECM v ESL in the all-e showdown. As indicated by my Power Poll, I think ESL is pretty damn good. This is no offense to ECM who has looked fairly dangerous themselves in the lolpreseason, but it seems ESL is a length or two ahead of the pack. Once on the field People Are People http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGGlTR71FEk and dots are dots, but I like ESL’s dots better. ESL 49, ECM 24

Lincoln Navigators (0-0) v Alpine (0-0)
Lincoln beat Alpine twice last season and ofc knocked them out of the playoffs. By a combined 5 points, so obviously those games could have gone either way. I could be wrong but it seems Alpine is a top contender this season and Lincoln maybe a step behind. True http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZUDG9opSc0 or not, that is my story and I’m sticking to it. Alpine 45, Lincoln 30

Tyrrhenian Sea Wasps (0-0) v Indianapolis Gurupies (0-0)
So far this preseason TSW has led the league in trash talking, but trailed the league in results. It could all be a ruse though. Indy however has once again arrived in WL and I suspect will start winning against with some immediacy. Just remember, whichever team loses, Boys Don’t Cry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8CDERzun4k and neither do dots. Indy 52, TSW 17

Dallas Longhorns (0-0) v Mayan Prophecy (0-0)
Last season, Mayan beat Dallas 27-19 in a tight low scoring affair. Both are back and meet again right away. To me Dallas looks much improved this season, while Mayan is of course still dangerous. I’m not expecting either team to Burn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyr5WdrEvGI down the other at this point, so it should be another close one. Dallas 34, Mayan 28

Nashville Hounds (0-0) v Three Kingdom Warriors (0-0)
These two very experienced teams have both kinda slept walked through the preseason with not too many cares it appears. I’m guessing the HHWC guys are using TKW to test out some things preseason in some sort of Bizarre Love Triangle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOWBX_xP5y8 but that is pure speculation. Either way, I expect both squads to put the gear into the D position at this point. TKW 27, Nashville 24

Odessa Mojo (0-0) v Palembang Royally Drunken Monks (0-0)
The reigning, returning, defending WL champions are back and look great again as of late and in position to make another run. The Monks look pretty meh right now and it’s hard to imagine picking them in this one unfortunately. Hey, I’ve got a Strangelove http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIrm0dHbCDU for the Monks, they’re my team. I’m not crazy though. Well, that crazy. Mojo 45, Monks 24

Agreed, I can't decide if I liked the way he copied, or pasted those links better...

Pasted, definitely. You can tell he is a true genius when it comes to pasting. On par with the likes of DaVinvci, Michaelangelo, etc.

Thanks. Great post!

I do think Lincoln is heavily favored over Alpine in opening week though. Probably something like 40-17
