~LION CONFERENCE~

Now that we are 6 games into the season, these formulas begin to actually come into play. I will try to put this out every two games or so until the end of the season.

The basic RPI formula is:
1/4 x (Winning Percentage) + 1/2 x (Opponents' Average Winning Percentage) + 1/4 x(Opponents' Opponents' Winning Percentage)

The basic Strength of Schedule formula is:
(2/3) X Opponents Winning Pct. + (1/3) X Opponents Opponents Winning Pct.

RPI:

SOS:

Questions, comments, concerns? Let it be known.

The math tells an interesting story and one slightly different than the power rankings. This is based of the stats alone. Some RPI formulas include home vs. away victories, however I'm not sure home field advantage has anything to do with the algorithms built into GLB.

If anyone knows otherwise I can include that data into the formula.

Good idea seems to work well.

When are you putting Elephant Conferance up?

Nice job, Semp!
Looking forward to the rest of the reports this season...

yea, and I noticed the Sea Wolves after 6 games had the toughest SoS so far. Just interesting things.

Hmmm...according to my calculations for Lion Conference, StingTalk Yellow Jackets have the toughest schedule so far. Their opponents record totals to 20-10 with 800 points scored and 401 points allowed. The Sea Wolves come in tied for second with an opponents record total of 19-11 with 778 points scored and 607 points allowed (Kalahari ThunderLizards and Texas Legends have opponents tied at 19-11 but these opponents have scored fewer points).

Bombali Brown-Browns have had the easiest schedule with opponents record totals of 6-24 with 302 points scored and 978 points allowed.

My formula is based off the the NCAA version and does not take into account the amount of points scored or margin of victory.

Adding those two sets of data may or may not skew the data depending on how much merit you put into them. Personally, just looking at wins and losses and who they were against paints the clearest picture. Especially in GLB, if you put up 150 points against a horrible team, I feel that greatly skews the data and creates an anomaly that is hard to ignore.

Honestly, I was just toying with some of the formulas as a tool for scouting other teams in my conference. But if the league wants to adopt the RPI and SOS as law I would have no problems putting the data together. It will just take a little time to get it all set up.

Just let me know, I don't want to steal the thunder of the other Power Rankings.

If you do it for one man, you got to do it for the elephant conference also!

Dude, if you have a nice comprehensive spreadsheet, I can do one, and you the other...

I wouldn't say it's comprehensive. I'm still working on a formula so it will compute Opp win % and Opp's Opp win %, but everything else if formulated to automatically update based on the data that is inputed.

Send me a PM with an e-mail address, and I'll send you the excel workbook.
