Well, about a week late for the NCAA tournament (U C O N N UCONN UCONN UCONN!!)
But here it is, this is merely opinion and I dont think there are many other places where it could be suitable.
***Note: All you have to do to find upsets in the first round is look at the season by season of the 85 bears. Gerr is an EXPERT at losing in the first round
Number 5: Season 15 Cascade Surly Goats.
First Round: defeats Mississippi Mud Dogs 28-7
Second Round: defeats Lone Star Mercenaries 20-14
Conference Championship: Lost to Tombstone Outlaws 0-21
This ranks as number five on the list because at this time, the Goats were an up and coming team led by gruppo and mccollums (not so up and coming lol). The fact that they strung together an upset over the favored 3 seed Mud Dogs and the Lone Star Mercs (who had previously pulled an upset over the 2 seeded bears) only to lose to a legendary Outlaws team was a great run.
Number 4: Season 17 Loretto Panthers
First Round: Defeats PAIN NATION MIDGETS 52-21
Second Round: Defeats DIRTY INC. 35-31
Conference Championship: Lost to Cascade Surly Goats 10-73
I may be a bit biased here, but the Panthers run was an epic one. It was the first time ever that a 7 seed had made it to the conference championship, and they did it by defeating the 14-1-1 Pain Nation Midgets, considered an enormous upset. They followed by defeating the 3 seed DIRTY INC. . The loss to the goats was an embarrassing one, but to be honest, every loss that season was embarrassing to the goats.
Number 3: Season 18 Lunch Box
First Round: Defeats Chicago 85 Bears 91-24
Second Round: Defeats UT Pimps 73-7
Conference Championship: Lost to DIRTY Inc. 35-55
The reason I put this up here as one of the greatest runs is because of their unbelievable ability to score points in the games. They blew out the number 1 rated defense that season by torching them for 91 points. Then shutting down the highest powered offense that season in the Pimps and holding them to 7 points. The CC game was a large scandal that had Tomlinator's AI "Not work". Everybody knows that was bullshit though, and without Tomlinator not having his error, I think we would be looking at LB as the S18 champions.
Number 2: Season 19 Providence Nose Pickers
First Round: Defeats San Antonio Saviours 21-7
Second Round: Defeats Chicago 85 Bears 21-0
Conference Championship: Lost to Brigate Nere Italia 14-35
This has been the only time in the history of PW gold that an 8 seed defeated a 1 seed, not only did PNP do that, they also went on to defeat the 4th seeded bears in a shutout. They lost to BNI, the eventual champs, 35-14. There were many missed tackles in a sloppily played game by the nose pickers, but it still goes down as the second greatest run/upset in PW gold history.
Number 1: Season 19 Sons Of Anarchy
First Round: Defeats Sir Flumps A-Lot 31-3
Second Round: Defeats Fighting Gamecocks 35-21
Conference Championship: Defeats Crackertown Juniors 31-21
Championship: Lost to Brigate Nere Italia 7-14
This was by far the greatest run in PW gold history. They are the only team, and I believe will be the only team ever to defeat a 1, 2 and 3 seed in the playoffs. They knocked out the regular season gurus in SFAL in the first round, followed by the defending champs FGC. Then, against the Crackertown Juniors, against all odds, they pull the most memorable upset in PW gold history, defeating the undefeated Juniors. In a cinderalla filled final 4 (PNP, BNI, SOA) the juniors were by far the favorites to win the whole thing when it came down to that, the SOA stunned them and advaned to play BNI in the championship game. In a slamball sim, SOA decided to riskier and pass more than they should have, it eventually may have cost them the championship, but they rank as the number one "bracket-buster" in PW gold history.
