Warrior General Games

I've seen this discussion going on in other leagues, and I was curious what you guys think, for those that have been here for a while. My criteria are in order, league trophies, WL success, consistent success in APL Here's what I got.

1. Lake Opeta Legionnaires-3 golds, 3 more silvers, disappointing early end and embarrassing WL, but a historic APL franchise and #1 in my book
2. Windhoek White Rhinos-3 golds, 2 silvers, a few WL demotions, but some embarrassments along the way with mentorgate and declining WL promotion in S13 keep them behind LOL for me
3. District 9 Prawns-2 Golds and one excellent season in the WL. A WL playoff win followed by a 2nd half meltdown against the eventual WL champs in S17.
4. Doinitin Djibouti-They weren't here long, but they made a splash. 2 Golds and a respectable WL stint followed by a collaboration which lead to a WL silver.
5. Carthage Mad Clash-A few decent seasons in APL before winning gold and survived WL for 3 seasons, but zero playoff wins keeps them from jumping the teams above.
6. Dakar Dragons-Spent one measly season in APL, and only earned a silver. But nonetheless, they were the first APL team to make the playoffs, and earned home playoff games twice in the WL, and winning APLs first WL playoff game.
7. Angola Spider Monkeez-1 Gold and 1 silver, solid showing in WL finishing 9th in their Conference. Were a staple playoff team in Lion for a long time.
8. Ghost Riders in the Sky/Black Hand-1 gold and 1 silver, but a joke in the WL and one declining. Had the best team in APL at least 3 or 4 times, including a top 25 team in the game in S12.
9. Nairobi Warthogs-Feels like they did more, but they only have 1 silver to their APL resume. However, they've been good a lot and had some WL success. No doubt a top 10 APL team.
10. Angola Blood Diamonds-They've been around forever, and yah they lose a lot, and have almost no success to speak of, but their refusal to give up is admirable. You may not like Vegas, but you can't deny their longevity has to be attributed to him.

I give ABD lots of props for hanging around here as long as they have. Sustaining a team is a bitch and managing to stay at the Pro level for so long is tough. Lots of teams come through and are one and done for whatever reason. I am a part of one of those teams so I can speak from experience that getting up here is one thing. Staying is a whole nother story. (But we'll be back in a few seasons!)

PS - Great thread GM. I love reading these little history lessons since I don't personally want to put in the time to do this research lol.

I would give them props for sticking with it for so long. However, getting and staying here is NOT tough. Being successful however, is tough. Especially more than a freak season here or there.

Could be. Other than ABD though, would you put them ahead of any of those other teams.

Here's a few from back in the day that should get honorable mention . Nfrat was a d-bag but Alexandria was tough as hell.

Your right, they weren't around long. Those are just a few of the solid teams I remember from the early days.

GMathiasf list is dead on. Well done.

Though we've never made it out of APL. SoA should get honorable mention if nothing else. We've been here since season 9 and been in the playoffs since season 12...

1. Rhinos - Not even up for debate imo...
I'll have to total it up, but I'm betting more wins then any other team to go a long with a high win percentage over several seasons. Beat LOL for the Season 8 Championship.

I'm missing a tough Elephant team from way back... I think the owner was Cubes and had an army theme?

yah, DSWK was close for me. Good guys over there too.

I think I had a couple things that bothered me about WWR to keep them from #1. First, Lion hasn't been as strong top to bottom as Elephant for most of the history of APL. Now, WWR still took some golds from Elephant, so I give them the credit, but APL Lion was widely considered the weakest Conference in the game (and could still be considered that today) until OPL Alpha lost Mean and WSI. Second, the mentor stuff. I just don't know how much was any of those trophies was mentor-aided, and if none, then unfortunately it's like a baseball player that wins 10 home run titles and then gets old and take some steroids. His whole career is up for question.

WWR is always a tough game in APL!

Lion definitely hasn't always been the strongest top to bottom... But part of that is because good teams kept folding. At one point all the honorable mentioned teams above were in the Lion Conference. Throw in us and Angola Spider Monkees and Lion was very strong. After they all folded it was hit and miss with quality though... But like you said, we have at least a silver in both Elephant and Lion. (Same as LOL)

Last Gunfighters of Texas should definitely be up there. They merged to form the Ghost Riders team later on but as TLGoT they were always a threat to win Elephant after they tore up AA and AAA getting to APL (S5 I think?).
