teams getting demoted or not based on who they played in week 1 seems like pretty shitty luck. what would you guys think of us going with a 15 game schedule in WL instead? that way every team in a given conference would have the exact same strength of schedule as the rest of the conference when it was time to send 8 teams packing.

i'd only propose this for WL because it's the only league where the difference between being relegated, or legitimate title champs can be 1 win, or a head to head tie breaker.

the empty slot in our schedule could be filled by a 5th pre-season scrimmage.

anywho, not a suggestion, but instead i'm trying to gauge interest in such an idea before I take it to the suggestions forum.

I think the tiebreaker system should at least consider conference record as the first tiebreaker after head-to-head. I haven't paid attention to if it's changed lately, but it didn't used to.

I don't see a need to eliminate the 16th game. It messes up endorsements, XP, stats, and who knows what else.

You're never going to have a completely fair schedule. Some teams will get to play low chemistry teams early, others will play them late. Coordinators are going to go on vacation or whatever and are going to gameplan harder for some teams than others.

Hmmm, those things that it messes up would be pretty easy to workaround. XP is easy, just treat the 5th pre-season scrimmage as a regular season game for XP purposes. Would it really mess up endorsements to have the first local one based on 3 games instead of 4? I'm not even really sure that they are based on our stats at all tbh. (How does crozier not get one ever?). Stats? People would understand pretty quickly that WL season stats are based on 15 game schedules. If you're having that much trouble with it, just multiply by 16/15, and there's your bigger numbers, heh.

I agree that you'd never get totally equal schedules, but I think this would at least bring us closer to that end.

Of course you could work around these things, but would it be worth it? In my opinion, no.
You always have your head to head games, so any team you could potentially end up tying with, you always have that chance to gain a game back on them, even if they gained a game in non-conference. Then if you make conference schedule the second tiebreaker, the non-conference game becomes more like half of a game.
Normally I'm all for fairness, but any team that got into a hole in the first week had 15 more weeks to ensure themselves a playoff spot. I can't think of any sport where every team plays the same schedule. And like I said, even if they did, it wouldn't turn out even for other factors.

baseball comes pretty close.

regardless, the conference record thing in tiebreaks needs to happen.

I'd rather see them keep the two best demoting wl teams up here and go two 17 team conferences, and then just play your conference, and 18 demote -2 good bubble teams stay

yeah, that's another option i was thinking about. 1-8 playoffs, 9 stays, 10-17 demote. would probably be easier to implement, easier to convince people of, and very fair.

Not terrible ideas, but I think the chances of Bort breaking the current league and schedule formats just for WL are somewhere very near 0%.

Besides...not everything in life is fair. Sometimes shit will happen to you, and sometimes the scheduling RNG will just up and @**-Fu** you.

It's all part of playing in the big leagues.

No whining, and no excuses.
