How productive would a run blocking build Center be in the FB slot if your going to use the FB as a run blocker only? Would the penalty be too high to be worth the effort? Or would this at least be an interesting experiment?

CPU players are much better now. I would just sign a cpu FB if you cannot find a blocking FB.

I'd say try it out and post the results. I think it sounds intriguing.

I think you meant faster, but aside from that...very insightful and well thought out response.

this is truth it will fail. You would have more luck with a C at blocking TE tbh but that would also suck.

Building a good blocking FB is more about speed and agility than strength and blocking. Any normally built C would be horrible in that spot.

In fact even a C built as a blocking FB would suck because of the effects of weight on player movement.

Thank you. Those were real responses and helpful about the idea. I will probably not try it.

Here is my center and I think he is fast enough to play the FB spot. If his speed was 80 he would be a great FB, but even 70 is serviceable.

Build:
Strength:
126.6 (+35)
Blocking:
90.6 (+3)
Speed:
70.29
Tackling:
16.02
Agility:
75.31 (+4)
Throwing:
9
Jumping:
8
Catching:
10
Stamina:
47.31
Carrying:
8
Vision:
68.45
Kicking:
8
Confidence:
46.45
Punting:
8

Unfortunately 80 speed isn't even enough. You need 100+ speed and 80 agility to be worth anything as a blocking FB IMO.

And that's with a weight of about 250. At a higher weight those requirements go up.

What about this build?

123 SPD
112 STR
100 BLK
83 AGI
65 CONF
65 VIS
55 STAM

I think a C could do pretty well at FB if there is only a 5-10% penalty. imo.

That would work, but is that build even possible with the C archetypes?

Also, 55 STAM and 83 AGI may not be enough with the 5% penalty and the fact that Cs outweigh a typical FB by 50+ lbs.

I have tried it. On run plays straight ahead, the center kinda held his own a little. Agile ends and corners just ran around him if he was in space on any outside run though in most cases, the RB ran right by him into the tackle. On pass plays (mainly in the Weak I ), the guys usually ran around him. Every now and then it looked like the C might have gotten a chip on an end or LB.

That wasn't a traditionally built center. It was a STOP who was built on SPD/AGI/STR/BLK/TKL/STA. The hit on speed was just too much, it seemed.

This. Tried C and G in FB, TE and WR slots for block test and got epic phail. Seemed like they were lost...
