We had a couple awesome ends to the season for teams to stay alive in WL, but what's the best of all time so far?
One's in my memory:
Sparta-S14 http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?season=14&team_id=4262 This one comes with an asterix. They started 1-7, and finished 7-1 just missing out on the playoffs. The feat was enough for Bort to give them another season in WL even though they missed the playoffs. Definitely an easier schedule down the stretch, but two wins over playoff teams (Providence and Warsaw)
Mayan-S16 http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?season=16&team_id=4410 Though things weren't quite as dire as other situations, Mayan was sitting at 2-4 in a very tough Conference, with some tough games to play. They went on a tear finishing 8-2 with quality wins over Cincy and Alpine to end the season, and wins over Macchio's and Minsk (two bubble teams).
Lincoln-S16 http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?season=16&team_id=602 Started off 2-4, and then finishing on an 8-2 run that continued as a run into the WL Championship game as the lowest seed ever to advance to the WLC *can someone confirm that?* Key wins over Nashville Hounds and Speyside, but also over bubble teams Bonn and ESL during the regular season run. Capped it off by beating a Moose Jaw, Hali, and the Kai before falling short of Gold.
SoCal-S17 http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=590 Nothing like winning 8 in a row to end the season after a 1-5 and 2-6 start. Wins over Playoff teams D9, Smurfs, and Mayan in a row to end it all. This one could be the best ever finish to stay in WL.
Alpine-S17 http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1711 1-4, 2-5, then 4-6 with Cincy, Lincoln, Gunny, Saigon, and Indy left on the schedule. Even Alpine faithful were beginning to make plans for WEPL in S18. But then the team woke up to go 5-1 and steal a playoff spot away in arguably the deepest Conference in the history of GLB.
