There have been teams that have played good runs without winning a title or even making the championship game. These teams are often forgotten. If you have any suggestions, the team should have won at least 8-10 games in a row or at least 13 out of 14 not including their playoff eliminating loss without winning the conference that season. This is only evaluating how the team performed during that run, not the whole season. Here are my top 10.

1. Season 16 Fighting Gamecocks (Game 1 through conference semifinal)- Well, they were 4 points short of the championship game and they were 18-0 up to that point.

2. Season 11 Short Bus Window Lickers (Game 5 through conference semifinal)- They looked like a championship team throughout those games, but they fell to Atlanta in the conference final.

3. Season 11 The Insane Asylum (Game 1 through Game 9)- That defense looked amazing and unstoppable.

4. Season 15 Fighting Gamecocks (Game 1 through Game 12)- That team was winning with willpower on both offense and defense. They lost to Short Bus and never really recovered after that.

5. Season 14 Wood Village Whistle Pigs (Game 10 through conference semifinal)- They had just lost 3 in a row and were 4-4-1. From there though, they won 9 games in a row including two playoff games before a loss to eventual champion Tombstone.

6. Season 12 Fighting Gamecocks (Game 9 through opening playoff game)- They gave up a total of 13 points during that run when they had just given up 14 points in the previous game. They were just barely beat by the Deep South Baby Makers 7-0 in the playoffs on a big play pass.

7. Season 13 Fighting Gamecocks (Game 7 through Game 16)- This team had a horrible preseason and first scrim and were terrible in the opening game. Then they were close against Madison. Coming into game 7, this team had just lost to Cameron for the second season in a row. They were 5-2 and looked vulnerable at the time. Instead, they won 9 in a row including handing Short Bus their only regular season loss. They only lost to Traveling in the playoffs because they forgot to tag their rushing QB.

8. Season 14 Fighting Gamecocks (Game 1 through Game 9)- They went 9-0 in those game in a pretty dominant fashion, but they completely fell apart after that.

9. Season 14 Georgia Assault- Without that loss to Deep South, they would be on here much higher for their whole season of 15-1 and 2 playoff wins. However, since they don't have a clear run except for the first 8 games, they have to be down here.

10. Season 16 Maine Grenadiers (Game 3 through Game 10)- Went 8-0 during that time. Without the close losses to Georgia and FG, they could be a lot higher on the list considering they only lost to Sacramento because of bad scouting.

Possible Teams This Season:

Fighting Gamecocks Game 9-Current - They would be on the list if they win their last game and 1 playoff game, they would be high on the list if they win 2.

Maine Grenadiers Game 5-Current - They would be on the list probably no matter what if they don't win the conference. If they win their last game and two playoff games before losing in the conference final, I would have to put them at #2.

Project Pee Wee Mayhem Game 1-Game 8, Game 10-Current- They would probably not make the list just for those 8 games, but if they win their last game and one playoff game, they would be considered and if they win two, they would be on the list. Also, if they lose the last, but win two playoff games, they could be considered a team like season 14 Georgia. They are just unlucky their loss came right in the middle of the season.

Cascade Surly Goats/PAIN NATION- If they face in the conference final, the loser of that will be high on the list assuming they both win their last game.

I think there are also teams in Silver that fall into this category (especially with the league shuffle and stacked conferences from 2 seasons ago). Not that an undefeated regular season in Silver can compare to just staying in Gold (let alone with a good or better record), but there is respect earned from dominating season after season but never getting promoted to Gold.

SAS is the best example I know of.

(I mean this in a positive way, I'm not trying to start another boosting versus non-boosting argument...)

I'll throw in MMD's best runs, not as the best ever, but just personal team bests in Gold.

S13 - Started 4-5, won the final 7 games and first RD playoff game before falling to Short Bus (who blew it in the Gold Finals ).
S10 & 11 - Going a perfect 16-0 and then blowing it both seasons in the playoffs and not being part of the first "pee wee Gold" season.

S15 - Starting 5-0 and trucked through multiple tournaments. Then people figured out how amazing "pump fake" was and we blew it all.

I think Deep South in Season 12 deserves to be on that list:

- Finished regular season 11-4-1
- In playoffs beat Atlanta Apocalypse, Fighting Gamecocks, Insane Asylum
- Lost to He Hate Me in the finals

A very impressive run by any measure considering the competition in the playoffs, and the best run made by DSBM imo.

How about my Bears team going 14-2 last season with a #2 seed, but then loosing in the 1st round?...

Or the season before going 12-4 with a #2 seed and also loosing in the 1st round...

They don't fit the qualities. They won the conference championship, this is for teams that didn't make the finals at all.

Well, we tend to have good runs of games and bad runs. That is why we often win a lot of games in a row. Also, if conference champions don't count, I can't imagine an argument with #1.

i mean if u want u can just title the thread...fighting gamecocks - good until it counts, and then list your records for every gold season

in a related story...deep throw it started their 1st gold season 10-0, and didnt let up a point until game 7...pretty good way to begin gold...but then we lost 1st round to dsbm

When I was with NOPW the team ate some bad burritos...I think it was at an away game against Andromeda.

I've NEVER seen team runs like what we had for the next few days...NOPW needs to be on the list.
