Why are the TE and ROT double teaming the DE and leaving the LB alone? This happened a few times during this game:

Edited by Djmr on Jun 22, 2010 08:25:19 (OL blocking needs improvement, not bug fixing)
Edited by RMiller517 on Jun 21, 2010 11:06:59 (Failed vision check. doesn't happen all the time.)
Edited by Asdlfef on Jun 21, 2010 07:51:27 (ROT only blocks LE when TE gets reverse pancaked.)
Edited by VolBrian on Jun 21, 2010 07:43:14 (ROT is confused by defensive alignment and defaults to helping TE instead of releasing to second level.)

Good question. What is the OT's blocking focus? It looks to me like he's pass blocking on a double team on the LDE since there was no blitz. The LB comes up in run support and there's nobody there.

Both ROT's are on Run Focus so that is why I thought it was a little odd to bounce out like that...

You said that you saw it other times in this game. Could you link those replays? Have you ever seen it before?

My suspicion now is that the defensive alignment being used of the DT and NT pushed to the right side of the line with the LOLB deep created a situation where the ROT never saw the LOLB when the play started so he went for the double team. Not a failed vision check so much as the LOLB being too deep at the start of the play to be even part of a vision check. Does that make sense?

These were all our plays from today, it seems to work when you have the lead blocker but it it still looks a little odd to me. I guess I would think fine on the Double Team if he was able to come off and pick up the untouched LB.

ROT stands there and just doesn't block anyone. There was a CB almost in front of him, and the MLB would have been logical to block also. But instead he just stands there then chases the TE down the field. No more examples at this time.

Posting this here, as it is a similar example.

Ok, now that we have plenty of examples I'm gonna mark this as likely a bug. I'm not sure what the fix is, but I think it's definitely worth a look by QA. Seems to me that the ROT is being impacted by the defensive formation and just defaulting to help the TE. I think he should probably release to the second level so this may not be WAI.

I do not believe this is a bug, it appears that the TE picks up the DE, then the ROT either sits back and waits for a defender to come at him, or blocks the ROT after the TE gets reverse pancaked.

It appears to me that the blocking logic on the sim is a joke.

Can I see another example where the ROT definitely double-teams the RDE with the TE, like the OP? The other examples dont show the same behaviour (the ROT goes for the OLB in those instances), and the ROT does just like Asdlfef says on those plays.

Agreed, I'd have to say initially that this is NOT a bug.

You linked several plays with different outcomes, which leads me to believe that it's simply a missed vision check by the ROT.

Agreed... i was about to say the same thing. Simply looks like a failed vision check on that one play, as it doesn't happen exactly like that in several of the other circumstances. if it was a bug, it would happen every time.

first verification.

Updated:

The first two plays show the play in question where the ROT does nothing, this is the potential defect

The second set of plays shows the exact play type with a different ball carrier, as in the FB is attacking the same hole. The difference being of course the ROT actually looks like he is attempting to block, but more importantly it shows that the pathing is much different when essentially these plays are identical and should be blocked similarly...

I've been told to post my bug claim in here even though it doesn't belong here. I had my own thread but it was closed. Can someone explain to the "man" that my problem is the ROT is not moving at all, and this thread is about double teaming, and my post doesn't belong in here. IDK why I was directed here. It's just a wee bit frustrating to have to fight so hard to get someone to really look at a play and try to focus on what you described the problem as. I will try to find more examples as there were several in the game. But shouldn't we really open my thread or allow me to post a new one since these are 2 completely different issues. Just because they both involve the ROT is irrelevant. And in the future will the mod who directed me here pay closer attention before wasting my time, and not closing my thread
