THE BLICA BULLETIN - Blica's overcome by Spaniard’s

Written by Herouk87

St Michael - Today saw the biggest test of the Blica's season as they attempted to beat the Spaniard Quebrantagüesos, an achievement only achieved once in their last 19 regular season games. With an incredible offense and solid defense it would be interesting to see if St Michael could stop the Spaniard machine in their own home. Even with the odds seemingly stacked against them, hopes were high in the Blica camp after the impressive overall display against a very respectable Glasgow unit.

With horrible conditions at Hazardous Nest it was always going to be a day for the defenses. St Michael got the ball from the kickoff and started to pass the ball down the field with Eric Martins QB; who is second in the conference in passing yards; hitting his WR corps on the opening drive of the game. It was an interesting prospect to see if Martins could overcome both the conditions as well as the Quebrantagüesos defense. The drive came to a halt with Gazoo Gramatica narrowly missing a 44 yard FG attempt. This brought on the much fancied Quebrantagüesos offense lead by Barriga Sanders.

The Spaniard's first drive saw them weather the storm so to speak as an early fumble by Sanders after the ball was stripped by Kriss DontKROSShim popped straight back into the hands of right tackle JEREMY SUNDAY. These opening drives from either side seemed to characterise their afternoons, fumbles and field goals.

The first points of the afternoon came on the next drive following a turnover from the usually reliable MartinsQB. On 3rd & 10 the pass to James Braddock was underthrown expertly picked of by the waiting CB Eric Iverson. Starting on the St Michael 42, the Quebrantagüesos edged to the 23 yard line before a 40 yard FG attempt from star kicker Roberto da Gama Bebeto was converted.

St Michael looked to retaliate straight away and after a fumble on the kickoff was recovered by the quick thinking Sergent Slaughter, the Blica finished the quarter on a flourish. Gramatica this time nailing the FG from 36 yards to tie the score at 3-3 heading into the 2nd quarter.

After starting the second quarter with two drives which didn't add up to anything, it was the Spaniards who were winning the game of field position. With the game starting to stagnate, suddenly the Quebrantagüesos injected some impetus into the game with Sitepaso Lapillas leading them on a 11 play drive down the field which ended in another Bebeto FG. It could have been more if it wasn't for the frantic defensive performance from SS Clive Picot, who made 6 tackles on that drive alone and finished the day with 11 tackles.

As St Michael attempted to hit back once again, it was the Quebrantagüesos defense who stepped it up before half time with another takeaway. This time it was Tom Aostia jumping in front of a pass from his FS position. 6 plays later Bebeto tacked on another 3 points to make the score at the half 9-3 in favour of the Spaniards. However it was still all to play in the second half.

After a stern talking to from xblica and Big Monster at half time, it seemed that both offenses came out with a point to prove. The 3rd quarter started with another FG from Bebeto, his 4th of the game came after a well balanced 10 play drive. St Michael's offense still was unable to put together a sustained drive of its and was forced to punt after a failed 3rd and 10.

Once again it was the Spaniard offense came back strong, hitting St Michael with their best drive of the day. A 7 minute 13 play drive which culminated in Bebeto adding to his scoring total with his 5th FG of the afternoon. St Michael was starting to feel the pressure and need to respond before time ran out for them. In the latter parts of the 3rd and the beginning of the 4th quarter the much maligned offense finally started to stir. This could have been the opportunity that the Blica fans had been waiting for.

After 10 consecutive passes and finding themselves in the Quebrantagüesos red zone, St Michael attempted to catch the defense off guard with a run. However the very alert Mr Bryant Young was not to be fooled, pushing away his blocker and smashing HB Eric Martins in the backfield. The resulting fumble fell to Manolo Alatriste which all but killed the game. Even after this heartbreaking fumble the Blica's did not give in but in the end the Spaniard defense remained strong and stopped them on 2 4th down passing attempts which meant that Bebeto and his team remain undefeated on the year and look to be the team to beat this season.

Bebeto and Manolo Alatriste share the player of the game awards for their game winning performances. Today was most certainly not a day for individual performances as St Michael was held to a paltry 2 yards rushing. Clive Picot was the standout for the Blicas and xblica will look for a similar performance from him next week.

So a tough game ends in defeat for the Blica, but continually stout defense and a hopefully improved running game will mean that the men from St Michael will fancy themselves in their next matchup at Blica Stadium against FF-FD Satellite, who after an embarrassing 33-0 defeat at the hands of the Stirling Crusaders will look to star RB Christian Stubber in order to break down this Blica defense which hasn't given up a touchdown for 126 minutes of football.

I have NO NAILS, I bit them off. Both watching and game planning for this game. *Hint Hint* to teams to face them, they're not invisible, they can be beat. Look inside their team and you'll see what I mean

Overall was a GREAT game.
