Lion Conference
1. Somalia Wasps (2-0): The Wasps looked solid in game 1 shutting out the Silverbacks while compiling nearly 600 yards of total offense. Game 2 wasn’t much different as they hung 96 points on the underdog Entrea team while preventing their opponents from scoring. Just so everyone is aware, its impossible to beat the Wasps if you don’t score… I cant figure out why everyone keeps trying this strategy! Game 3 will be a tough matchup against a under rated Killer Frogs team, could this be Somalia’s undoing?
2. Pheonix Heat (2-0): We knew they would have a strong passing game, but HB Ryan Seacrest showed that the Heat can get it done on the ground as well by rushing for 188 yards and 4 TD’s in game 1. Game 2 brought the tactics we were all expecting, aerial domination. QB Amare Stoudamire led the team to victory with 339 yards and 4 TD’s through the air. Game 3 should be another easy win for the Blazin’ Heat.
3. Etheopian Starvin Marvins (2-0): Tailbacks Moe Sketo and Jeremy Smith have been performing at an all pro level and currently sitting 1-2 on the league leader board in terms of rushing yards. These two have combined for over 615 yards and 5 TD’s over the first two games to lead a solid Marvins rushing attack. As Moe Sketo put it in his post game press conference today “You got to give a lot of credit to the line, we brought them in open up holes for us and they are doing what we asked.” Game 3 against the Night Riders will bring Moe Sketo and the Marvins their first real test.
4. Kalahari Night Riders (2-0): The Night Riders were able to keep the Killer Frogs from scoring a TD in game 1, however the game was closer than the score reflected. In game 2 they barely came out ahead of a tough Angola team, but give their defense credit for only giving up 3 points after the first quarter. This team is ready to make a name for themselves in a game 3 matchup against one of the leagues other top teams, the Starvin Marvins.
5. Zimbabwe Bush Squirrels (2-0): Looked solid in game 1 against a lesser opponent and showed much of the same in game 2. This isn’t a team that is wowing anyone with spectacular numbers but 2-0 should speak for itself. Game 3 brings in an Egypt Empire team who is desperate after two straight losses, can the Squirrels handle them?
6. Minnesotta Mafia (1-1): Gave a decent account of themselves to the leagues top team, however star RB James Golling couldn’t get anything going in game 1. QB Danny Jo had an excellent day and im sure management is happy with his performance, but if they are going to nudge their way into the leagues upper echelon they need the ground game to produce. Holding the Heats deadly offense to 45 points may seem terrible now, but a few weeks from now they may be patting themselves on the backs for being the only team to not allow a triple digit score.
7. Angola Dream (1-1): Angola had a solid game 1 with an easy victory over Egypt Empire in a shut out win, however they weren’t as fortunate in game 2 and walked out with a loss to the Night Riders. Despite losing this team showed that they can hang with the leagues top teams and will look to rebound in game 3 against the Silver Backs.
8. Sahara Shadow Chasers (2-0): Won their first home game against the Generals, although it was closer than expected and followed suit with another victory with their win over the Outlaws. I don’t think there first two games are an indicator of the type of season they will have as they are still untested against any of the leagues best. Game 3 against the Bolts will force them to work a little harder.
9. Siera Leon Thunder Bolts (0-2): The Bolts couldn’t stop the Starvin Marvins rushing attack and were shut down offensively by a swarming defense in game 1, in game 2 they just couldn’t get there offense going as they lost another game. This team has the talent and they should start winning some games once they get past a rough early schedule.
10. Atlantic Blue Jays (1-1): Although the game shouldn’t have been so close, the Jays week 1 win over Eritrea is a win none the less. Running a balanced offense they were able to get both the rushing and passing attacks going which should provide them with some momentum. In game 2 they met a determined Mafia team and came out on the raw end of that deal. However the next few weeks look promising as they get decent match ups for the foreseeable future.
11. Uganda Silverbacks (1-1): Clearly over powered in game 1, the Silverbacks couldn’t get any stops defensively and their own offense was non existent. Game 2 brought a bounce back that should give them some momentum as they role into the tougher part of their schedule. Will they be able to knock off a top opponent?
12. African Killer Frogs (0-2): Loosing game 1 was a disappointment for a team that wanted to prove they have what it takes to play with the big boys, but they can take hope in the fact that they played a solid game. Game 2 proved to be even more of a downer as they picked up another loss and stuttered offensively. This team started the season with high hopes, but is their dream already starting to fade?
13. Fort Wayne Generals (0-2): Put up a fair accountance of themselves in a game 1 loss to the Shadow Chasers and then proceeded to give the Heat a scare. These guys have proven that they can play, but the question is can they win? Despite putting up excellent offensive numbers the Generals can’t seem to find the end zone on a consistent basis. This team could provide frustration to others as the season progresses.
14. Egypt Empire (0-2): The Empires must have forgotton that the season started today, because they forgot to show up to their first game. They were only able compile a mere 58 yards against the Dreams defense. In game 2 they allowed the Starvin Marvins to run rampant all over there front 7. The next few weeks don’t offer much relief in terms of their opponents.
15. Madagascar Outlaws (0-2): Not much hope can come out of the crushing defeat of game 1 and game 2 didn’t give them much hope either. Game 3 doesn’t look to promising, but this is a team that shouldn’t be overlooked.
16. Eritrea Evarcha culicuvora (0-2): Not much to say about their week 1 loss, they were able to score one TD and almost walked away with a win. Don’t expect other teams to blow this team off, but don’t expect them to be walking away with any wins. Game 2- As expected, the wasps blew these guys out. If they can’t get anything done offensively or defensively they wont be winning games. The glaring questions seems to be, will these team win at all?
Elephant Conference
1. Ghana Rhea Infection (2-0): The name change apparently did them some good as they defeated the previously 3rd ranked Malawi Heat with shutdown defense. In their second game they were able to pull out a win, although their offense seemed a little sluggish. Game 3 will bring about a clash of the Elephant conference titans, will the infections perfect season survive?
2. Morocco Camels (2-0): Despite being a win, game 1 was a complete embarrassment for the Camels who were expecting a blow out win. In game 2 they were able to get there offense rolling and piled up over 500 total yards in a route of the Jinx. The game 3 matchup against the Ghana Rhea Infection will let us know if this team is for real.
3. Mozambique Lions (2-0): Game 1 brought the start the Lions were looking for, QB Luck Bomb went for 250 yards and 2 TD’s to lead his team to victory. Game 2 was much more hard fought, but it was against a quality opponent. This team has to be happy with the start they are off to.
4. Los Angeles X-treme (2-0): Game 1 was closer than the X-treme wanted, but im sure they are happy to walk out with a win. In game 2 they brought a balanced attack which was enough to topple the Malawi Heat who are quickly falling in the rankings. This team is trying to cement themselves as apart of the Elephant conference elite.
5. Wichita Falls Rough Riders (1-1): Put an outstanding game together against the high plains drifters, but is that anything to be proud of? In game 2 they faltered under the stress of the Lions, however they kept the game close and that is something to be proud of.
6. Eaton Beavers (1-1): The Beavers can hold their heads high for only giving up 9 points to what we thought was a very good Camels team. In their second game of the season their defense choked the Malice’s offense by holding them to less than 160 yards. This team definitely has some hope for the coming season.
7. African Killer Bee’s (2-0): The Bee’s have flown in from off my radar. They snuck away with a win over the Congo Death and then followed it up with another victory over the Blaze compiling nearly 750 yards of total offense between the two games. Expect teams to take these guys a little more seriously.
8. River Styx Jinx (1-1): Earned a hard fought victory over the White Houses in what was an evenly matched game. I had previously asked “Could this team come out of no where to claim dominance over the conference?” Game 2 showed us that they aren’t anywhere near the top; however I still feel this team will have a solid season and be playoff bound.
9. Mogedishu Malice (1-1): Impressed many with an impressive win over Swaziland. HB Archaic Ninja rushed for over 170 yards and added a TD as well. The Malice however weren’t able to capitalize on this momentum and fell to the Beavers in game 2 as their offense struggled to move the chains. The coming weeks will show us if this team is real or fake.
10. San Dimas Saints (1-1): Lost a close one to the X-treme, while a win would have been nice their performance in this loss must be encouraging. Snatching a win from the Congo Death must be encouraging; perhaps this team is better than I thought? The next few weeks should bring some easier games. I wouldn’t be shocked if this team was sitting close to the top of the league mid season.
11. Casablanca White Houses (0-2): Walked out with a loss in a game they should have won. Still baffled as to how they didn’t score a single TD. But game 2 brought a crushing defeat. The coming days wont offer much help as they have to face a very strong Las Angeles team in game 3.
14. New Jersey Blaze (0-2): They weren’t able to walk out with an upset victory over the Lions in game 1 but they weren’t embarrassed in defeat either. Game 2 was winnable as well, but once again they were unable to get it done. There season still has hope, however they need to find a way to win quickly.
12. Malawi Heat (0-2): Game 1 proved to be an ugly offensive performance but their defense kept them in the game against a tough opponent. Game 2 was just as bad. I don’t understand why this team is struggling but hopefully they can find a way to get back on track soon.
13. Congo Death (0-2): Game 1 was an eye opener to the Congo Death, losing a game they thought they had won before it was over. And game 2 has left this team even more puzzled. This team needs to find a way to beat a struggling Heat team in game 3 or else they will stuck in the dog house for the remainder of the season.
15. High Plains Drifters (1-1): Stumbled out of the gate against the Rough Riders and got next to nothing done in game 1. However game 2 brought a huge victory over the Black Mambas, but does beat the cellar team really qualify as a victory?
16. Swaziland Black Mambas (0-2): Not much was expected from this team, and they lived up to those expectations as they were embarrassed by the Malice in game 1 and the High Plains Drifters in game 2. While their start may have been slow it appears that management has become active and are trying to pull some more pieces in.
1. Somalia Wasps (2-0): The Wasps looked solid in game 1 shutting out the Silverbacks while compiling nearly 600 yards of total offense. Game 2 wasn’t much different as they hung 96 points on the underdog Entrea team while preventing their opponents from scoring.
