Warrior General Games

It's been many many seasons since I did this; but here's my attempt for our league

Alpha:

#1 Sparta Titans vs. #11 Vestfold Vikings - The Titans are currently the #1 team with 24 straight wins. They've had a ridiculously easy schedule not playing a single team of note. Their first real game will occur in Week 6 against Flin Flon. Vestfold are 11th; they are a possibly playoff contending team; but don't appear to be a top 4 team. They have a tough road against the Titans this week. Prediction: Sparta 75 - Vestfold 10.

#2 Flin Flon Fighting Black Bears vs. #15 Atlantis Whitecaps - The Bears are #2 and have some value for their ranking - beating Munich and hte Gods - two likely playoff teams. Flin Flon faces a wet rag and will walk away with over 255 points. Prediction Flin Flon 255 - 0

#3 Strathmore Strippers vs. #4 Vienna Sausages - Perhaps one of the more interesting games this week; Strathmore has looked strong against all comers though had a surprising game against the gods. I can't write Vienna off this game; but I expect Strathmore to win this game comfortably. Prediction: Strathmore 48 - Vienna 14

#5 Estonian Enforcers vs. #12 Hungary Cannibals - both teams are hard to judge this early in the season; but I really don't predict the Cannibals to be a challenge for Estonian. Hungary just won't be able to compete. Estonian: 80 - Hungary 6

#6 Dallas Chiefs vs. #7 Vatican City Bishops - this is the most interesting Alpha matchup this week. Both teams are going to be close in the ratings at the end of the season and both really want this win. I'm going to pick Vatican for the W on this one. Chemistry is going to make a difference; but also I think the Bishops are the better team right now. Vatican 35 - Dallas 20

#8 Munich ManiAx vs. #16 Hungarian Revolution - Munich have had a surprising season with 2 early losses. They have 2 easy wins coming up now though before htey fight Sparta. 255-0

#9 The Gods vs. #14 Warsaw Warriors - Warsaw is no more and the Gods get win #3 - 255-0

#10 Sparta Baby Chickens vs. #13 Eden Serpents - The Serpents are pretty; but they've had the toughest schedule so far. Definitely the best value for 0-4 in the league. This is, by far, their easiest game of the season to date; but I gotta give it to Sparta Baby! Eden's going to be a great team; but they moved up a season too early. Sparta 45 - Eden 17

Zeta Conference

#1 Warsaw Gods of War vs. #5 Tallinn Nightmare - Warsaw seems to be the team to beat in Zeta - they are challenging World League and Pro teams a like and have yet to register a loss. Probably the match of the week but I think that Warsaw is going to stomp Tallinn badly. They are have just too much every where for Tallinn to keep up. I'm thinking it's about 68 - 18 for Warsaw

#2 Border Reivers vs. #6 Istanbul Turks - Border is going to be a top playoff team in Zeta; but are eventually going to get stomped by Warsaw who seem to be the class of Zeta. Istanbul isn't going to bow down to the Reivers but I think they will be forced to take a knee. Border's has a couple beast of DEs that just keep getting the Sack.. X-Factor doesn't exist - my ass... Istanbul looks like it has the same - but really only in their 255-0 wins. Anyway - Border 37 - Istanbul 17

#3 London Underground vs. #10 Richmond Rebels - London's going to take this one - hope they spend the extra time gearing up for Warsaw next week; they are going to need it. Richmond doesn't have the depth to compete at this level yet. London 46 - Richmond 10

#4 Valhalla Einherjar vs. #15 Rip City Reign - Valhalla gets an off week after getting their asses handed to them against Warsaw. Valhalla is suffering from lack of depth and it was odd not to see Fantabulous get a carry against Warsaw - "The Beast" played well; but I think 3-87 was misleading... Either way 255-0 for Valhalla. I'm not sure if Valhalla is running with a DC right now - that's gotta hurt. I see them as a top 4 team if they get their act together this season.

#7 Nuremberg Nighthawks vs. #9 Syracuse Snatch Wranglers - Syracuse is good value for their 2-2 and Nuremberg is going to be a top team this season - they were the class of Zeta in AA and I don't think they've gotten worse. Nuremberg 90 - Syracuse 13

#8 Cincinnati Tigers vs. #11 Easter Empire Pirates - I have no idea whose going to win this game; I figure it's a crap shoot The pirates are 1-3 having played 2 tough teams and losing to Syracuse. Cincinnati is 2-2 with 2 tough teams and beating Richmond. I'm taking Cincinnati in a tough fought battle: Cinci 35 - Pirates 24

#12 Montreal Ice vs. #14 Wroclaw Wrecking Crew I think Larry Allen is going to try to beat Montreal all by himself. They are playing bad enough that he just might hold them to 200 points.... Montreal 255- 0

#13 Lefkada Seahawks vs. #16 Prague Mad Hatters - Prague is just that bad that Lefkada found a team they can beat! 255-0

#1 Sparta Titans vs. #11 Vestfold Vikings - Prediction: Sparta 75 - Vestfold 10; Actual: 129 - 3. I think this game would have been a little closer had it not been for the 70 - 3 score in the 4th quarter only.... Sparta was on pace for around 70-90 points until that whomping in the 4th. Vestfold actually got some good pressure on the QB; but Sparta didn't need it with an average of 20 yards per rush..

#2 Flin Flon Fighting Black Bears vs. #15 Atlantis Whitecaps - Prediction Flin Flon 255 - 0; Actual: 255 - 0.

#3 Strathmore Strippers vs. #4 Vienna Sausages - Prediction: Strathmore 48 - Vienna 14; Actual: 59 - 34. Vienna played very well against Strathmore making some great yardage and consistently scoring in the 1st and 3rd quarters. Unfortunately the game is played over 4 quarters and I'm guessing stamina caught up with Vienna as they lost 28-3 in the 4th.

#5 Estonian Enforcers vs. #12 Hungary Cannibals - Prediction: Estonian: 80 - Hungary 6; Actual: 255-0. Okay Hungary wasn't a challenge; but I didn't expect them to rollover and just die. On the field Estonian averaged 34.2 yards per rush... Hungary rushed 27 times and totaled 14.5 yards.... ouch.

#6 Dallas Chiefs vs. #7 Vatican City Bishops - Prediction: Vatican 35 - Dallas 20; Actual: Dallas 52 - Vatican: 24. Another game won on the ground; Dallas ran for 553 yards and Vatican who ran half as many times; got 39.5 yards.... oops - try more passing next time! Me thinks there are some holes in the Vatican Defence....

#8 Munich ManiAx vs. #16 Hungarian Revolution - Prediction: 255-0; Actual: 255-0

#9 The Gods vs. #14 Warsaw Warriors - Prediction: 255-0; Actual: 255-0

#10 Sparta Baby Chickens vs. #13 Eden Serpents - Prediction: Sparta 45 - Eden 17; Actual: 31-10. Eden was in the game until 2 key passes in the 4th quarter - a pump fake and a spin for huge yardage gave Sparta a 14 point lead which Eden couldn't get back. Sparta didn't really get their offense going and Eden was getting no where fast - they could only move the ball in the air and even that was pathetic. Eden got more points on defense than on offense. Sparta wasn't fairing much better until the 2 plays in the 4th mentioned above. Close game for these guys.

Zeta Conference

#1 Warsaw Gods of War vs. #5 Tallinn Nightmare - Prediction: 68 - 18; Actual: 103 - 3; Looking at the domination that was Warsaw in that game - you are probably wondering how Tallinn even managed a single point... well - on a routine TD pass after the CBs had been completed faked out once again; Ajani Baker was clear by about 20 yards from the defenders at which point - for reasons unknown - the QB decided to throw the ball at the safety - who was so shocked that Ajani had enough time to run back and tackle him. Tallinn didn't make many more yards but they were close enough for a 40 yard FG.

#2 Border Reivers vs. #6 Istanbul Turks - Prediction: Border 37 - Istanbul 17; Actual: 91 - 31. I thought that Istanbul's defense might actually stand up a little against Border... Um, nope.. 3 TDs a quarter is basically 3-5 plays for a TD; even starting on their own 20... Istabul's scores were essentially major defensive fake outs.

#3 London Underground vs. #10 Richmond Rebels - Prediction: London 46 - Richmond 10; Actual: 86 - 24. If the game had ended after 10 minutes - Richmond would have won 10-7! Unfortunately there was another 50 minutes to play and London outscored them 79 - 14 thereafter - including a 101 yard kickoff return... nice man... nice.

#4 Valhalla Einherjar vs. #15 Rip City Reign - Prediction 255-0; Actual: 255-0

#7 Nuremberg Nighthawks vs. #9 Syracuse Snatch Wranglers - Prediction: Nuremberg 90 - Syracuse 13; Actual: 55 - 3. Syracuse held up defensively better than I thought - but their offense just couldn't do anything at all. If you punt the ball 10 times and keep your defense on the field the entire game - they are going to give up 55 points. Nuremberg held the ball 37:30 minutes.

#8 Cincinnati Tigers vs. #11 Easter Empire Pirates -Prediction: Cinci 35 - Pirates 24; Actual: Pirates 20 - Cinci 17. The Pirates took this game to OT with a last second field (almost literally) - you have to feel bad for Cinci who lead by 3 - had the Pirates 2 / 16 on their own 28.5 yard line with 31 seconds to go and no timeouts left. The Pirates threw a hail mary and caught it for a 45 yard gain - ran up and kicked a super fast FG (I don't think this is possible in RL in that timeframe without a spike) and tied the game. Cinci dominated the offense on the game - the Pirates scored all of the TDs on Punt Returns - Runzliykii Stolzumthin should be give a MVP award for single handedly winning that game. Special Teams count everyone - don't just throw in your worst guys!

#12 Montreal Ice vs. #14 Wroclaw Wrecking Crew Prediction: Montreal 255- 0; Actual 255-0

#13 Lefkada Seahawks vs. #16 Prague Mad Hatters - Prediction: 255-0; Actual: 255-0

Yeah, I can always count on my D ... as long as we're within 5 effective levels, they'll keep it winnable to the 4th. Of course, that's only about half the conference. I looked at AA today and we'd be running away with that league if they hadn't promoted all the playoff teams from last season.

Really, the performance I've been happiest with so far was the Valhalla one. They're a top 2 team in Zeta and we were only down by 12 at the start of the 4th.
