Last week it was hard to find a game to feature, this week there were too many! I went with MOD vs. Bonn, both teams fighting it out near the top of Zeta so that was the winner. Let's take a look at the action.

Bonn gets the ball first and moves right down the field to take the lead. Three big plays led to the score, first this 22-yard pass from Paulie Crew to LaBrandon LaFell:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11757373

Then Crew to Clay Ardai for 21-yards:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11757439

And the last big chunk was this Crew to Hands Gruber 23-yard TD pass:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11757796

Bonn 7 - MOD 0

When you are an underdog that is a great way to start the game. Even better is if you can stop them on defense to follow it up. Bonn manages to do that after giving up one first down they get a 3rd down deflection by Rot Thun:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11758520

Bonn takes over and look to run the ball, but Messy Marv Filmore smashes in to Plowin Forward and forces a fumble which Waimea Da Kine jumps on giving MOD the ball:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11758813

Bonn needs to hold Ministry to a FG to minimize the damage. But they do even better as Rot Thun picks off this pass inside the 10-yard line and runs it out past the 25:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11759130

Then it is all defense the next few possessions. This 3rd down deflection by It's Pat forces a punt by Bonn:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11759251

But MOD has to punt it right back after Pencil Trick hurries Pocket Pool into a bad throw:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11759511

Crew hits Gruber for 22 to get the ball close to midfield:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11759639

But Stone Watkins forces a punt by deflecting this Crew pass:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11759779

Ministry gets a fantastic return by D League C B for 45-yards to flip around the field position:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11759908

They drive the ball to the Bonn 40 but Vaughn Jeansonne steps up and deflects it:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11760052

So 4th and 5.5 at the 40.5, some might go for it, others would kick a FG. MOD decides to punt and pin Bonn deep:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11760084

It seems to be working, Bonn starts on their 4 and inch up to their 8 and face a 3rd and 6. But then it is big play time as Crew hits Gruber for a 92-yard TD, shazam!
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11760292

Bonn 14 - MOD 0

Ministry gets the ball and finally puts a drive together to get on the board. The big play was this 22-yard run by D League:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11760723

Facing 3rd and G at the 1.5 the Bonn defense steps up, Erik Lanshof tackles Pocket Pool for a 2-yard loss:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11761086

The FG is good to make it:
Bonn 14 - MOD 3

So things are going well for Bonn. All they need to do is avoid a turnover. But of course that is exactly what happens as Ronnie Lott picks off this Crew pass:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11761305

Bonn has quite the goal line defense, MOD gets first and goal at the 6 and then they lose 4 on this tackle by Haus DesSchmerzes:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11761511

Then they lose four more on this sack by Samuel Steele:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11761587

Another FG, means MOD trails by 8.

Bonn 14 - MOD 6

Bonn takes over but go three and out after this nice play by Charon Ferryman:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11761892

MOD takes over with 5 minutes left in the half and their offense starts heating up. Pool hits D League for 25-yards:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11762302

Pool hits Trick for a 12-yard TD to close the gap to a point:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11762408

Bonn 14 - MOD 13

That is the score at the half. A good half for Bonn as they have the lead, but they have to feel that it could have been even better. MOD gets the ball first and Bonn gets another momentum changer when Marcus Stonewall gets an interception on 3rd and 3:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11762940

Bonn can't get a first but they do get a FG out of it, a 54-yarder by Josh Fitzgerald:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11763145

Bonn 17 - MOD 13

Despite that setback, Ministry just puts their nose to the grindstone and get to work. Elmer Fudd to D League TE for 14:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11763377

Pocket Pool to Sonic The Hedgehog for 17:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11763565

D League HB takes it in from 9-yards out on a pitch:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11763691

MOD 20 - Bonn 17

But Bonn doesn't hang their heads. They rally and drive back to tie it up. Crew hits Gruber for 16:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11763918

Then Crew to Jake Jester for 13:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11763966

Fitzgerald with a long FG to tie it up:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11764092

MOD 20 - Bonn 20

Ministry drives right back down the field and look to re-take the lead. But Bonn's defense steps up and when Keak Da Sneak tries to take it around the end at the Bonn 26 he is pounded by Marcus Stonewall and the ball pops out, Christian Hall recovers:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11764542

Pearl Jam sacks Crew on 1st down:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11764566

Bonn does pickup one first down, but this tackle by King Louie forces a punt:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11764722

Ministry drives back and does finally take the lead on this 46-yard FG with 8:43 left in the game:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11765262

MOD 23 - Bonn 20

Bulls on Parade gets a sack on 3rd down on Bonn's next possesion to force a punt:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11765412

Then another solid MOD drive results in another FG:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11765837

MOD 26 - Bonn 20

So Bonn is down 6, they need a TD. But the MOD defense is just too much. They totally snuff out whatever hope Bonn holds and forces them to punt again after this deflection by D League Super StrongS:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11766026

With 4:34 left in the game MOD takes over and does not give the ball back. The big play was this 2.5 yard pickup on 3rd and 2. Keak Da Sneak on the pickup:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1079749&pbp_id=11766337

And that is the game. Final score:

Ministry of Dotball 26 - Bonn 20

Good game!

Definitely a beast, but mostly a really well built dot with a DC who knows exactly what to do with him.

Nope, it's definitely X-factor. No other possible explanation.

This + X-Factor. Back in season 9 he was on one of the first zone defenses and had a breakout season on the Turin Thunder winning the WEPL MVP, but joined Bonn in S10 and didn't start until S13, where he won WL MVP, and looks like he may win again.

Kurieg is an absolute genius with the zone defense because he is in position to stop the run and force some fumbles and fall back into coverage and rack up a ridic amount of pd's and some ints.

how is this guy not the DMVP right now? I mean, sacks are nice but I'll take 20 turnovers vs. 40 sacks any day.

Well it breaks down like this:

78 tackles, 16 Ffum, 2 sacks, 1 hurry, 28 PD's, 4Int & 2 for TD

vs.

67 tackles, 42 sacks, 43 hurries, 4 TFL, 2 PD's

I'm betting it's pretty close.

Yeah I've wondered that too. Sacker Backer's been #1 for a while and Stonewall second. In one three game stretch Stonewall even had back to back 5 FF games followed by a 2 int, 2TD game and he still stayed in second place the whole time. Maybe one momre monster game like that will push him over, but I'm with you I like Stonewall's stat line better than just sacks.

It isn't an exact science but you can generally look at the global ranking and get a pretty good idea what is happening in the MVP race.

Currently Sacker Backer is #74 in the global D rankings while Marcus Stonewall is #85. I also believe the MVP award is calculated by some goofyass "value" calculation of player worth to the team. That value calculation doesn't seem to be applied consistently though.

For example, Buster Crouch is currently #4 in the MVP calcs with a #493 overall global but he's trailing in the conference MVP to two other guys just over 1000 in the global rankings. In fact, just a game or two ago, Buster was listed as the #2 QB in the conference and Hali's Tossin' Bombs was the #3 QB in the conference but Tossin' was higher in the MVP race.

Ya, there are currently 3 QBs that are behind Thom in the global rankings and conference QB rankings but ahead of him in the MVP race. Thom is performing better in almost every single category than the other 3 QBs so there has to be some kind of weird team value ranking that is coming into play.

which is pretty dumb since MVP's will only come from teams that use the player as a horse or stat whore except on D.
