Is this counting just Halifax or does it also count the other 10+ pro teams they have merged with.

The tactic seemed to have worked for them.

True, but they lost their identity and are not the team they were (I don't even remember their first name). The question any owner needs to ask them self is: Would you whore your team out for the WL trophy .gif?
Personally I would never change my team name, merge with others, or do any of that. I know to win the WL .gif it is becoming a must (or perceived as a must) but I would not do that. Personal preference I guess. Valhalla or MPHD will win the WL this year and probably turn mergers into a thing of the past. I think the merger thing is just a "fad".

it is at the point were you pretty much have to merge if you want to stay on top, or you have a farm team coming along every 2 seasons. and isn't that pretty much a merge anyway?

Farm team is not a franchise identity compromising move. No team will stay in the WL, despite the number of mergers they do. Look at MEM...they are on their way back to USA Pro. Two seasons ago nobody would have ever thought that possible. Building via farm teams is going to be the only way to stay competitive, and even at that you will need to drop down to Pro every once in awhile. Even Hali the merger king will drop down eventually...probably in the next two seasons.
