Def. MVP current leader:
Stonewall Tackles 40, Sacks 17, Forced Fumbles 10, Pass Deflections 3

Player in Second for Def. MVP:
Sackington Tackles 81, Sacks 37, Forced Fumbles 11, Pass Deflections 3

So why is Stonewall leading Sackington for Def. MVP? What I am missing?

27 of Sackington's tackles, 17 of his sacks and 5 of his forced fumbles came in a single game against a cupcake, which is most likely working against him in the Def. MVP race.

The real MVP is in the Naga conference, Mike Panzer. He's played a lot of great offensive lines.

76 tackles 24 sacks. He's the best defensive player in Southeast Asia AA#4 fellas.

There are no great offensive lines in Naga. There's no great anything in Naga.

I beg to differ.

I'm pretty sure that 42 tackles and 12 sacks came against 2 teams with a combined record of 1-19. Incidently 12 of your fumbles also came in those games. Otherwise through 8 games your stats are 34 tackles, 12 sacks, and 7 forced fumbles. Don't get me wrong, that is not a bad stat line, but that doesn't make him the best defensive player in Southeast Asia AA#4.

If you check my Rankings thread, you'll note I labeled Naga as a one-horse race. We'll see how the DE in question stacks up when he plays against them (He's pulled a relative disappearing act in a couple of losses already). This doesn't mean he's a bad DE, mind you - I'm guessing he's very, very good.

In the interest of full disclosure, I've always been one to judge a player's MVP-worthiness based on the team's results, not the overall stat line. I don't much care what a player does when the team wins by 50 or loses by 50 - they'd still win or lose by plugging in his backup. So, I had a look at what this guy did in his team's close games:
Week 2: 30-37 L - 4 tackles.
Week 4: 40-24 W - 3 tackles, 2 sacks (borderline close game, but included for now)
Week 5: 30-40 L - 3 tackles.
Week 7: 17-10 W - 6 tackles, 3 FF, 3 sacks
Week 8: 26-17 W - 2 tackles, sack, PD

In other words - he's had one great game, two respectable games, and two games best described as "meh". This doesn't mean he's a bad player - again, I'm sure he's great. It doesn't mean he wouldn't dominate if he played for a better team - it's quite possible he would. But to suggest a guy is the league's defensive MVP based on these numbers, while playing for a 6th place team in the league's weaker conference (at least based on week 1's results).. no, thanks.

Sorry if I offended anyone with that original remark - as per the included emoticon, it was intended to be perceived as humoristic. I freely admit I have no idea how good OLs are in Naga, having not actually looked at any of them.

Well stated Crawly, and in truth I meant to emoticon next to the link to last seasons game with Port Moody as I was taking this all in jest so I'm going to go ahead and add it now.

See you in the championship game maybe? It would be nice to be there...

Just sticking up for my MVP candidate. He hasn't had any competition in the MVP race at Naga so far this year

I'm not entirely sure that's true. I think there are many folks on that top 10 list who can make a claim for MVP. Panzer's stats are gawdy, but as Crawly points out his performance boils down to only a couple of games right now. Padding stats against cupcakes does not an MVP make. It doesn't mean that we won't account for him when we play you guys in 4 games. He is a force to be reckoned with, but it's a bit presumptuous to say there's no competition this year. I think some of those guys are closer than you think to overtaking him in the standings.

He did pad stats against cupcakes but then again he's been the most consistent performer on defense in the league IMO. He's probably had at least 1 sack in all but 1 or 2 games and that includes some great teams that beat us.

I'm the CFO for Port Moody. It's not whether we win or lose, it's how we pay for equipment.

It is nicer when we win, though.
