10 Teams voted this week, Thank you!!
Not really much to report this week folks, the Top Ten remained pretty much the same from top to bottom. The big story is The Warlords finally taking their place among the elite after flirting with it since the start of the season, congrats guys!! The Rhinos also continue to get closer and closer to that unanimous first place, as they continue to steal more top votes off of LOL poll after poll.
Ghana fell off the list after losing rather handily to LOL yesterday, but they haven't been forgotten by the owners as they were still represented on several polls entered.
Also, to prove to GRitS that any press is good press... after me probably being too hard on them in last week's report for their 0 - 2 start, The Ghost Riders received some votes today after winning their first game of the year. This just shows you that if you are on the voter's radar and you do something good, you WILL get recognized. I wish you guys more success the rest of the year.
So I'll do a favor for another team who I believe has been overlooked so far by the voters, The Ethiopia Devils. They are 5 points short of being 3 - 0, and that sole loss was to the #7 ranked Spider Monkeez. Maybe they shouldn't be in the Top Ten yet but I feel they should garner some votes. The Devils do meet the Champs in 2 weeks, so they can force their way onto everyone's radar if they win that match. OK PSA over.
We have some awesome matchups this week!! Two in each Conference.
Over in Lion we have the #6 Warthogs heading to Angola to meet the #7 Spider Monkeez. Both of these teams are undefeated and have done their job spreading APL's influence across GLB by beating up on SAPL teams in scrims. Unlike my earlier Game of the Week picks, this should be a great one.
Lion also will have #4 SISW heading to Dar es Salaam to meet the #10 Warrior Kings. Dar es held onto their 10th position by lighting up The Dream last week, but they have their work cut out for them this week if they want to stay with the big guns. But history is on their side as Dar es came away with a 3 point victory over The Sea Wolves in last year's only meeting. Another great game to watch tomorrow.
Elephant has two fantastic games of their own tomorrow that are must sees.
The #8 Pirates host #5 SLS in a rematch of last year's Elephant semifinal playoff game. Remember back to last year, SLS was white fucking hot and on a 16 game run, no one.... and I mean no one gave the Pirates a shot in that game. We all know how that ended. The Pirates won with a brutal 31 point ass whoopin over Sierra Leone. You gotta believe that The Stallions are going insane waiting for tomorrow's game to start so they can get their shot at revenge. The Pirates on the other hand want to show the world that last year wasn't a fluke and that they were the Elephant final representatives for a good reason, they are better. If that doesn't fire you up you should go to the hospital, because you're probably dead. This game will be a bloodbath....I can't wait to see what happens.
Our last Game of the Week pits the juggernaut #3 Doinitin Djibouti against the new powerful upstart #9 Warlords of Somalia. I know I used the Rocky reference last season but this is Apollo Creed vs The Italian Stallion. I just don't know if the outcome will be Rocky 1 or Rocky 2. DD is the proven APL team that has the track record and respect in the pros, everyone knows its only a matter of time before they win the gold. SW won AAA#1 last year and comes into this fight with a 13 game winning streak. They have dispatched every APL team that they have met in the regular season so far, but they have not faced any team close to DD's caliber yet. Both teams want this game badly and with the talent in this Conference, a loss this early could be devastating for anyone hoping for home field advantage come playoff time. Another must watch battle in a fucking incredible week of games.
One thing that is guaranteed, the next Coaches Poll will be much different than this one.
That's it folks, good luck to everyone!!
