10 Teams voted this week... Thanks!!
Well here we are again!! Another exciting season is ahead of us in APL, everyone is fired up and optimistic about their team's chances in the upcoming year. Nothing is better than that first kickoff of Week 1, everyone is convinced that they are going to go 16 - 0!! Of course 60 minutes later... half of the league has met with harsh reality and have been handed their first loss of the year. That's ok...they'll all go 15 -1!! Just ask any of them
WWR: Last Season (12-4) (4-0), Preseason (2-1)
Back to back Championships is nothing to take lightly, especially at the Pro level. The Rhinos cemented their place in APL history as one of the greats by successfully defending their title last year. Where else could they begin the season 10 coaches poll but at the top? They began this year by introducing the Predators to the big leagues... without mercy. Up next for the Rhinos are the ShadowChasers, an APL playoff team last year, in a game that should give WWR more of a test than their week 1 foe. Too early to think of a threepeat? There is that little blip in their preseason record to consider.... who was that team who beat them? Oh I remember...
LOL: LS (15-1) (2-1), PS (3-0)
The Legionnaires are angry. Last year was supposed to be their year. It was supposed to end with LOL's glorious return to the top of the heap. Everything was lining up perfect for them, other top teams getting upset in the early rounds of the playoffs, facing a Pirates team in the Elephant conference final, a team that the Legos beat by 34 points in the regular season. Championship here we coo..ooooh shit!! The Pirates kicked them in the balls, stole their candy, and ended their dreams of Manifest Destiny in 1 fell swoop. Will the Legos come back from that devastating loss in the Elephant finals last year? Huge off season pickups and a preseason win over the Rhinos may be pointing in that direction. They began the regular season with a big win over a well respected slugger in the Royal Knights. Next up for them.. a shell shocked Predators squad. Talk about a brutal introduction to the pros...Jeez. I almost feel sorry for them.
DD: LS (14-2) (0-1), PS (3-0)
If there is any team who is more angry than The Legos over how last year ended, it has to be Djibouti. Despite holding TLGoT scoreless in the 2nd half of their playoff game and having the MVP of the league in their backfield, they were unable to get a playoff win. One and done, that quick it was over. It wasn't supposed to happen like that, not after their big offseason pickups. This was supposed to be the year that they stepped out of LOL's and TLGoT's shadows and took the reigns of Elephant. But just like LOL they got to start planning for next year earlier than they anticipated. Will this be their year? Starting the coaches poll in 3rd has to be a good sign, as well as their destruction of The RidgeBacks in Week 1. Up next, a Game of the Week matchup against a greatly improved ABD squad.
SISW: LS (14-2) (2-1), PS (2-1)
The Sea Wolves actually have to be very happy with how they did last year. In only their 2nd season in the Pros, the Wolves went 14 - 2 and made it all the way to the Lion conference finals, losing to the eventual champion Rhinos by only 4 points. They continued right where they left off by beating last year's league runner up Somalia Pirates by 31 points yesterday. They are no longer "up and comers", Seychelles Island now has to be considered a very strong, very real contender for it all this year. They did however lose a close preseason game to another perennial powerhouse.....
SLS: LS (15-1) (1-1), PS (3-0)
Now this team was just about everyone's favorite to win the championship at the end of last season. They lost their opening game to an unfamiliar Warthogs squad, then proceeded to beat every single team in their conference to finish out the regular season with a league leading 15 - 0 run. They won their 1st playoff game convincingly and had a seemingly unstoppable head of steam... but ran into the same roadblock that came out of nowhere in the playoffs...those damn Pirates of Somalia. In a league stocked full of great teams, The Stallions have to be on everyone's short list as a championship contender this year. They crushed last year's AAA#1 champs The Bandits in week one, no early cross divisional loss for them this year. They get to introduce another new upstart to Elephant football this week when they face Kickin Djibouti, in what could be an interesting game...
Ok guys I'm gonna end it there. I got a little more wordy than I planned so you'll have to forgive me for not doing the rundown for all 10 teams. Congrats to everyone who got voted into the TOP TEN by your peers this week. This should be a very fun season.
