Just for fun I ran down the whole playoffs on the East side. I don't have a dog in the fight, but naturally will be paying close attention. Not a lot of surprises because the best teams in our conference have been so consistent from the start, but I do think that we are in for a good show on this side of the bracket.
Good luck to all of the teams that made the playoffs, and I am hoping for some close games with a play or two making the difference.
EASTERN CONFERNCE PLAYOFF PROJECTIONS
New York Steel-Heads vs. Chicago Grizzlies
The Grizzlies keep it close for a half, but in the end New York just has too much.
34-13 Steelheads
Chicago CBMB Bears vs. Orlando Pirates
These two teams got together just 2 games ago in what was a pretty close contest. Chicago didn’t do themselves any favors by turning the ball over 4 times. If Orlando can find away to turn the ball over again I expect this game to be close. In the end I think Chicago corrects their mistakes from the 1st game, and pulls out another close one. A late score in this one by Chicago makes it 24-13 in favor of the Bears.
D.C. Warriors vs. Minnesota Drillers
The Drillers probably get the least amount of respect by teams in both conferences. Maybe it has something to do with them being the least vocal, but they certainly have my respect. All they did was win 13 games in a row at one point, and on top of that posted a 14-2 record. Although the game looks close on paper the depth of Minnesota is what I think will make the difference. Not to mention their skill position players being really damn good. In the end I think the Drillers have too much for D.C. to handle. It will be a little bit closer this time, but Minnesota wins going away: 27-10 Drillers.
Colorado Storm vs. Care Bears
These guys got together a couple weeks ago in what turned out to be an easy win for the Care Bears. Depending on which team shows up for the Storm this could be a really good game, but it is hard to pick against the Care Bears because of how consistent they have been. The Care Bears have been very silent about having won 9 in a row while outscoring their opponent 267-49. Not to mention taking out the #1 team in the East, and the #4 team in the West. These guys are good.
30-13 Care Bears
SECOND ROUND PLAYOFF PROJECTIONS
Chicago CBMB Bears @ New York Steel-Heads
This game wasn’t even close back on the 8th of May, but the Bears aren’t the same team. The Steelheads do some great things on offense. They have a 1-2 punch in the backfield that in my opinion is one of the best in the league, and one could probably argue it is the best. They combine that with their passing game which is also one of the best in the league, and dare you to find some way to stop them. Chicago will be up for the challenge, but in some of the biggest games they have had some problems with TO’s. I think this time they don’t get away with making a few mistakes, and New York takes advantage. It isn’t the 24 point win the Steel-Heads enjoyed in the 1st matchup, but all they want is a W.
20-13 New York
Care Bears @ Minnesota Drillers
The Drillers were the last team to beat the Care Bears back on May 8th. That was a game that was never in doubt with the Drillers jumping out to an early 14-0 lead. I don’t see that happening this time as the Care Bears have been so good against some of the top teams. The Drillers don’t force the same amount of TO’s that they did in the 1st game making this one go down to the wire. In the end the balanced offense that Minnesota has along with their depth will prove too much. A late TD for the Drillers is what decides this one.
21-16 Drillers
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Minnesota Drillers @ New York Steel-Heads
Only fitting that the top 2 teams from the conference are playing for the right to represent the East in the championship game. In what was easily one of the better games of the season these two teams met only days ago for what was the regular season championship game. Both probably feel that they could have done a few things different that would have resulted in a much different outcome. Just like the last game I think this one will be a great defensive battle that will come down once again to a final drive, but this time it will mean much more and will be the deciding factor. I think that Minnesota makes the plays this time to win a really close game that will leave both owners thinking about things they could have done different.
17-16 Drillers
