This is a game with many storylines.
The "Eastern Conference MVP" and possibly best HB in all of CA2, Joey Rossman, going against what could be described as the best HB tandem in the league, El Flasho and Oil Field.
A team which got handily beaten in the regular season looking for revenge against the team which gave them their only conference play loss.
Two teams vying for a spot in the CA2 championship game and the bragging rights which come with it.
Now for the breakdown of the teams...
QB - KK sports Captain Sensible under center and he brings with him 2 Season 8 Passing Trophies, one for yards (silver) and one for TDs (bronze). He had a 109.3 QB rating in the regular season and threw for nearly 4,200 yards and 44 TDs. The Chiefs bring to the table a duo of Herc Johnson and Parker Bennett. They combined during the regular season to pass for over 3,200 yards and 36 TDs.
I have to give this position to KK just because of the sheer number difference. This won't affect the game too much though since both teams mainly just pass enough to set up their running games.
HB - KK brings the flashy Joey Rossman and the mysterious Lux Interior. They combined this season to rush for about 7,000 yards and 139 TDs at a 13.1 yards/rush rate. The Chiefs have El Flasho and Mark "Oilfield Trash" Leonard. They have given their team a league leading 7,376 rushing yards and 151 rushing TDs although they also had a 13.1 yd/rush rate.
This is a push. Although Joey Rossman is better than either of the competition's HBs, the tandem makes this a very close match with Joey and Lux.
Recieving - KK has many recieving threats, with only half of their TDs coming from the WR position. Charlestown is a big WR passing team with almost all of their TDs coming from the WRs.
This also goes to KK, more options means more holes can be found.
Rushing defense - Just as this is a matchup of 2 great running teams, it's also a matchup of the two best run stopping teams in the conference. Michael "The Wall" Phillips is a highlight in the KK defense with his 136 tackles and 29 forced fumbles. The Chiefs seem to have no single threat, but instead are a threat as a unit.
This should be the story of the game. Whichever defense stops the run better should win this game. I'm going to call this one a push.
Passing defense - Both teams have given up about the same number of passing TDs but KK has given up 400 less yards in the air than the Chiefs. KK has more deflections and interceptions than the Chiefs. Charlestown on the other hand is better at getting to the QB, and leads the East in hurries and sacks.
This is a tight comparison due to the differing styles of defending the pass. Yet another push.
Special Teams - The two punt returners are about equal, with Charlestown's returner Nick Bennett having more TDs due to blowouts. Kicking wise, neither of the teams have a perfect kicker. Both MyFoot Hurts (CC) and Mark Mosely (KK) have missed their share of kicks during the regular season.
Another push.
So to recap...
Passing - KK
Rushing - Push
Recieving - KK
Rush defense - Push - Key of the game
Pass defense - Push
Special Teams - Push
This should be a very close game and will most likely be decided in the final quarter, if not the final minutes, of the game. I think that KK is going to wind up on top, but that's partially the homer in me. Final score...KK 34 - Charlestown 30
