Warsaw Warlocks (1) v Ares Assassins (2)
Many will agree, this is the correct matchup for Alpha - one playing two for the chance to meet Zeta in the championship. Even though Warsaw went 16 zip in the regular season, they have been having a tough time in the playoffs, with hard fought wins over the Bears and Smexies, while Ares have cruised though with convincing wins over DC and Moscow.
These teams matchup well, both have strong running games and both have strong pass and run D. What will probably be the difference is whether Ares and Warsaw can get their sometimes suspect passing game to fire against such great opposing defense.
If Assassins star QB Roger Staubach#12 and Warlocks QB combo of St. Quixote Del Sol and Chicka Ferguson can find a way to move the chain against D's that have allowed very little passing yards all year, it will probably be the diference.
In their regular season matchup Warsaw dispatched Ares surprisingly easier than expected, but that was mostly due to an outstanding defensive performance from a couple of Warlock players such as SS Dakka Dakka and CB Dapick Machine. Ares owner Mauler has been waiting all season to have another crack at the Warlocks, he believes his team can give a better account of themselves, in two days time his Assassins will get their chance..
Ares already have some impressive silverware, they have been league champions the last two seasons. They are one game away from competing for their third straight title - that is an impressive statistic, and should help them gameplan - they have been here before.
In giving a prediction, Warsaw is still hard to look past, they are yet to be beaten in Alpha. But if the playoffs show anything it's that the Alpha team coaches are catching onto how to play the Warlocks, and Warsaw are not winning as easy as they did early in the season, sooner or later they will get beaten. But while I'm fairly sure it will be close, I still think Warsaw have enough in the tank to beat the Assassins and make their first championship. Here's hoping anyway
