I thought it would be fun for people to put their predictions, and discuss them.

I don't know a lot about Zeta, so I'm only going to post my predictions on Alpha's first round games:

1 vs 8: Dublin beats Western Europe, 61-13. Actual score 54-0. Unfortunately for WE, Dublin completely outlevels their team. Even with excellent defense and strong gameplanning, they really need a miracle to win. Western Europe's defense did a pretty solid job against the Dublin offense in the regular season matchup, and I don't see that changing. I think Dublin will get a few scores, but will be hard put to dominate the WE defense. Western Europe's offense really depends on its running game to be successful, and Dublin prides itself on its defense in general and run defense in particular. I expect Dublin's defense to outscore WE's offense, and this matchup is where the game will actually be won or lost. If WE can keep from turning the ball over, and put some long drives together, it will be a very close game. If Dublin's defense is as dominant as it was in the first matchup, Dublin will be cruising to victory.

2 vs 7: London wins 33-9. Actual score 23-19. Before the Dresden game, I thought London would have an easy time this game. However, Dresden showed some weaknesses in London's game, and if Birmingham can take advantage, they can win the game. I think Birmingham has been improving as the season has come to an end, and they can make a game of it. Unfortunately, London's defense is too good for Birmingham to overcome. London's running game should be able to dominate the game and Birmingham's underleveled run defense.

3 vs 6: Malta 38-27 over Mandi's. Actual score 34-28. They played to a 26-22 win by Malta in their first meeting after a Malta loss to non playoff Belgian team. I think they feel they have something to prove, and they are a little better than Mandi's personnel wise. Both team's depend on the run and are very good run defense teams. I believe the difference will be Malta's need to prove themselves, and their gameplanning, plus slight personnel advantage, will take them into the 2nd round.

4 vs 5: Dresden wins 34-20, Actual score 44-27, revenging their 51-23 loss to Hollywood in the regular season. This is a very even matchup. The key to this game will be Dresden's WRs vs. Hollywood's DBs. In the first meeting, Hollywood's DBs won the battle, keeping Dresden's completion % under 50%, as well as showing big play capability with their offense. At the time, Dresden had lost two straight and Hollywood caught them by surprise, in gameplanning and in morale as they'd just lost two in a row. This time, Buer and Dresden will be ready, and are coming in on a good winning streak. Besides, they also want revenge against Dublin and need the win to get there.

Personally, I'm rooting for Hollywood, because we just match up against them better.

So, there are my predictions. Discuss. Also, I'd love to see someone from Zeta take some time to break down the Zeta matchups.

Yeah, I hate when there are one or two teams that just completely out-level the rest. No offense to you, but I have yet to be in a league that's completely even-leveled throughout the season and everyone's competing for the playoff spots. Even in a cap-13 league there's one or two teams that boost early and dominate the regular season.

I agree with you, Buer... Pissed me off all last season. So, that's why I recruited as I did. Several other teams in Alpha seem to have done the same, so I don't think one team is REALLY dominant. I think that, of all the teams in the playoffs in Alpha, there are only 2 teams that really don't stand a chance against Dublin (I use Dublin only because we are the #1 seed)... Birmingham and Western Europe. I think all 5 other teams can beat us, and I'm very worried about it, quite honestly, LOL.

I think Western Europe is a VERY good defensive team, but they just don't have enough on offense to compete. Birmingham has good players, but, again, they are TOO outleveled. The other teams have enough levels and gameplanning ability to be able to take us out... and I'll be worrying about playoff games until we are knocked out or win Of course, our toughest games this season were against London (16 point win), and Dresden (28 point win)... and it looks like, after Western Europe, we will have to play against both of them to win the Conference. Worse, we have two playoff wins against Dresden, and BOTH could have gone either way... I prefer blowouts (where we are the ones blowing out the other team)

Zeta Conference

. (1)Wildcat Spartans VS (8)Noregr Norsemen- The Spartans arent the #1 seed for nothing, Spartans destroy the Norsemen 67-10.

.(2)Chernobyl Neutrons vs (7) Canterbury Crusaders- Neutrons are mean and have a great all around team, they will surprise me if they don't take it all. 58-6

(3) . Brussels Buckeyes vs (6) Zurich Scorpions- Good game in the making but Brussels is to strong and comes away with the win. 43-24.

(4)Stuuttgart Stallions vs (5) Disciples Of Azathoth-To close to call Disciples are not the same team Stuuttgart played earlier this year, but I cant go against my guys 31-27 Stuttgart.

.

Nice job, Seth. One thing, you have the seedings a bit off (the matchups are correct).

Seth... 2 vs 7 is Brussels/Zurich, and 3 vs 6 is Chernobyl/Canterbury

Other than that, nice job, and thanks for posting!

Actually, they beefed up right before their week 6 matchup... just so happened to be against Dublin. New players they added before the Dublin game included:

HB Justin Long (Level 56)
FB Moose Johnson (Level 49)
DE Steve Latimer (Level 54)
LB Al Hacker (Level 54)
CB Brandon Tate (Level 52)
CB Dan Gagnon (Level 54)
FS Eddie Shack (Level 53)

Other guys they brought in during the season:

DT Bradley Hacker (Level 53) - Week 5
DT Robert Mugabe (Level 53) - Week 8
CB Paper Cut (Level 45) - Week 3
CB nog has the lobes (Level 45) - Week 2
FS Nima Farshchi (Level 47) - Week 10

Now, I have worked a bit at improving my team during the season, and I could post stuff for other teams that have done the same. My point is that Dresden hasn't done it recently. Only 2 new players since the Week 6 game vs. Dublin...

If you notice, most of the work in upgrading the team was done right before the Dublin game... I mean, 7 new players that didn't play in Week 5 for Dresden but played Week 6 against Dublin. Pretty nice

Like I said, that wasn't for you. :/

Well said. I don't really feel like I have too much to lose, so I'm going to mix it up a bit for this game, see how it works. Already got the playoff money.

But yeah, I'm coming in to win, but in more of an unorthodox way. Hope it works!

GL Hollywood.

I just try to keep tabs on all the teams I may need to beat in the playoffs... so obviously Dresden and Hollywood are two teams I had to watch, LOL.
