I'm sure Bort will come up with one someday. I'll wait for that.
edit: suppose I should clarify. I'm typically against informal polls of who has the best players because, even with the best intention, they usually devolve into a thread where everyone is just trying to pimp out their own guys.
There's more than stats and championships to hall of fame.
To me, the best players are those that are so dominant that they change the game. The cornerback that no one will throw at. The defensive tackle that forces the other team to never run up the gut. The running back that opens up the passing game because the defense has 9 in the box. The offensive tackle who doesn't get pancakes, but never gives up a sack.
There are some guys who put up monster stats but are replaceable. So much of the game is in gameplanning. Is a receiver hall of fame because he averages 2000 yards a season? Or would any other receiver been able to put up the same stats in his position?
It's extremely hard to quantify, unfortunately.

I know what Patrick is saying and it's also why I don't like (and typically don't get involved in) the subjective stuff other than the league rankings when we did those. You can look at Denver's career as an example of why it is tough to do so - he would admit he did very little his first couple of seasons - I think he was playing as a backup LB / special teamer. Shutd0wn signed him to BDC because the 3-4 had just become available and we decided to roll with it for at least a year and we needed another LB. Truthfully I didn't know what to do with him when we got him - I was playing Mamula our DE at ROLB and Denver was playing LILB during the preseason. I thought that sucked, moved Denver to ROLB for our first regular season game, found he was pretty good at rushing the passer and went with it. The rest is history and he's obviously put up huge numbers and been a game changer.
Would he have done as well in another scheme or on another team, especially if they ran a 4-3 set?.....probably not. Could we have plugged in another player in that spot who would have done as well or at least close to it? Possibly - we didn't think we were adding one of the most disruptive players in GLB when we added him, I can tell you that and I would not have thought we'd have an LB average more than 40 sacks per season over a 6 season span way back in season 4 (20 sacks by a LB in season 4 was extremely rare at the time, let alone the 40-60 sack seasons he's had since). What has been interesting about Denver is that he's never really felt the wrath of the Bort hammer - and hopefully will remain immune to it for a couple more seasons

I agree with Patrick's parameters and I think the two OPL guys (off the top of my head) who fit that criteria are Denver and Adam Avalanche. I know Avalanche isn't here anymore but I still consider him an OPL player foremost.

Vin Numbers is a sure bet HOF candidate. The Nites have had quite a few other great players, but Vin is the only one I would consider a sure thing.

How can you suggest Vin and not ATO? Below are their stats since ATO joined the Nites in season 5. Vin blew ATO out of the water in season 3 (his first season in OPL... well, except the one game in season 1 before the Cans split into the Cans/Caninites) and then ATO returned the favor in season 4 (last season with the Cans). Not to mention ATO has played his entire career in the OPL...
Vin
carries - 1165
yds - 7296
y/c - 6.26
tds - 113
fumbles - 21
ATO
carries - 1023
yds - 6663.5
y/c - 6.51
tds - 103
fumbles - 18
Just trying to be fair...

I don't think anyone can argue with Adam Avalanche on the first ballot, can they?
