Europe East AAA #2 Power Rankings

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to this week's edition of sawedust's EEAAA2 Power Rankings, (unofficially) sponsored by Mountain Dew, Mountain Dew Code Red, Mountain Dew Livewire, Mountain Dew Game Fuel, Mountain Dew Amp'd, Mountain Dew Cherry Amp'd, Diet Mountain Dew, and Mountain Dew Baja Blast.
Week 14 has come and gone, and the playoff picture is now starting to shape up. Nine of the sixteen playoff spots available in this season's championships have already been clinched, many of which are taken by contenders from last year's championships. We'll get to that a little later on in the rankings.
For now, let's focus on this week's recap.
The Alpha Conference Game of the Week (and perhaps of the season) pitted the Barger Hill Burglars (sPR: #4) against the Prague Monarchs (sPR: #2), where the winner would have an advantage in a race for home field advantage and major revenue growth for the playoffs. Each team alternated kicking for three before a T. Brady to Ryan Hand connection in the closing minute of the first half put Prague in a commanding position. The second half saw both defenses shine, but BHB was unable to come back from the early deficit and lost to Prague, 16-10. Does this victory shoot Prague up to the top for the first time ever?
Over in the Zeta Conference, the top-ranked Stalingrad Gryphon Army (sPR: #1) extended their winning streak to 13 games with another great offensive and defensive performance, taking out the Demoniak Piggies (sPR: #16) 44-26. The play of the game was a gorgeous pick-six by Chap Stick for an 80-yard score, putting the game out of reach for the Piggies. Stalingrad played like a championship team out there like usual, but does this mean they will still end up at the top spot this week?
The sPR third-ranked Lafayette Rajun Cajuns pulled off a great win against the Budapest Tigers (sPR: #15) to keep them in the race for home-field advantage in the Zeta Conference. Great job by the Cajun defense to keep Budapest scoreless in the fourth, leading to a Freddy Elam 33-yarder that sealed it for Lafayette. Will the drastic shift in Strength of Schedule boost Lafayette back to the top spot?
Three teams contending for number one, who will it be this week?
For those of you who are new to the sawedust Power Ranking system, here's an explanation of how these rankings have been set up:

The following statistics have been broken down into two parts: Overall Season and Last Four Games. The "Overall" portion takes into account a team's performance over the entire season. The "Last Four Games" portion takes into account a team's recent performances. By using the L4 in my stats, I am able to accurately gauge how well a team is currently doing (if players were signed/released, etc). Anyway, here are the stats used...
Win-Loss
For the most part, winning is everything. More wins equals more points in the rankings.
Strength of Schedule
This determines the level of opponents a team has faced.
Margin of Victory
There is no room for sympathy in GLB. Blow your opponents out in order to move up in the rankings.
Points For/Against
This gauges the overall strength of a team's offense and defense.

PLAYOFFS
As I mentioned earlier, we have nine teams already locked up for the playoffs. Those teams will be marked with an "X" preceding their team name.
A team that has clinched a top two spot in their conference (and obviously, a playoff spot) will be marked with a "y" preceding their team name. These teams will have home-field advantage for the playoffs should the top seed falters.
The teams that are number one and have clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs will be marked with a "z" preceding their team name. According to GLB, these guys will be the favorites to win it all (not to mention a cool extra million in revenue, per game).
No team in either conference has locked up home-field advantage yet, so with two games to go and the seeding not completely determined, perhaps we will see some strategy by some teams in their attempts to set up the playoffs to their liking.
So with that out of the way...
Here are your OFFICIAL Week 14 Power Rankings!
THE TOP TEN
1. x-Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (13-1), 59.367
Huge jump to the top for Lafayette, with their SoS4 beaming like no other team out there in EEAAA2. Given the hardest SoS4 in the league at 2.5, winning against Windy City, Austin, and Budapest with a close loss to Stalingrad pushes the Cajuns back to the top of the sawedust Power Rankings. If Lafayette can somehow find a way to beat Samara and Barger Hill in the next two weeks, they will have had the best season out of all teams, regardless of seeding or records. However, the game against Budapest this week was closer than LRC wanted it to be, and it seems like the Cajun defense continues to be worn down. Not a good sign. Last game: Win vs. Budapest Tigers (8-6), 16-14... Next game: Away at Samara Salukis (8-6)... Last week: #3 (+2)
2. y-Prague Monarchs (13-1), 54.344
Prague is the only team in Europe East AAA #2 to lock up a top-two spot, guaranteeing them home-field in their first two playoff games should they win in the playoffs. One more win guarantees the Monarchs home-field advantage throughout the entire playoffs. Prague has seriously turned their organization around since last year. Prague made a playoff appearance last year before losing to GCP (who is 2-0 against the Monarchs), but this time it seems as if Prague has a great chance of going all the way. Last game: Win at Barger Hill Burglars (12-2), 16-10... Next game: At home vs. Combat Warriors (9-5)... Last week: #2 (same)
3. x-Stalingrad Gryphon Army (13-1), 52.106
You are probably as surprised as I am to see Stalingrad fall to number three, but the ranking structure of sPRv2 favors SoS much more heavily than MoV, and that is why SGA has dropped a few spots in the Power Rankings. Goal Line Blitz still has SGA as the top team in Zeta, and those are the only rankings that actually count when it all comes down to it. Stalingrad finishes off their season with two challenging games against Zeta's San Jose Baggers (sPR: #11) and Alpha's Combat Warriors (sPR: #10). Last game: Win at Demoniak Piggies (8-5), 44-26... Next game: At home vs. San Jose Baggers (9-5)... Last week: #1 (-2)
4. x-Barger Hill Burglars (12-2), 43.487
The numbers show that Barger Hill is in a tier of their own, albeit not the top tier. Barger Hill was unable to score, their EEAAA2 second-ranked offense (to sPR standards) held to just 10 points by the Prague Monarchs, 7 of which were scored when it was no longer a factor. However, I have no concern for BHB as it is very likely that the Burglars will be able to defeat their first round opponent with ease, whoever it may be. It is the later rounds that are a concern for Barger Hill. Last game: Loss vs. Prague Monarchs (13-1), 10-16... Next game: Away at ATL Riders (7-7)... Last week: #4 (same)
5. x-Krakow Outlaws (12-2), 34.838
If I could be biased in my power rankings, I would have placed ADD above Krakow. However, the numbers determine where they stand and thus Krakow returns to the top five. It's another ho-hum win for the Outlaws, a relatively easy 26-0 victory over Elancourt. Krakow will be seeded at least fourth in the playoff picture, and is guaranteed at least third if they can defeate Windy City in Week 15's Zeta Game of the Week. Last game: Win vs. Elancourt Templiers (3-11), 26-0... Next game: Away at Windy City Bears (10-4)... Last week: #6 (+1)
6. x-Amsterdam Dirty Dozen (11-3), 34.347
Amsterdam is barely edged out of the top five, despite beating Krakow on every stat across the sPR board except for Win-Loss. The losses to Dnipropetrovsk, Prague, and Barger Hill may have affected this power ranking but it has absolutely no effect on the level that ADD is playing on right now. The 67-0 shutout over Albuquerque is proof of that. One thing to keep in mind is even though it appears that ADD is only 3 points ahead of Kiev in this sPR, it's only a number conversion; in reality ADD is at a level 10 points higher than the Cosmonauts. Last game: Win vs. Albuquerque Regulators (2-12), 67-0... Next game: Away at Detroit Cheetahs (10-4)... Last week: #5 (-1)
7. x-Kiev Cosmonauts (10-4), 31.134
The Cosmonauts went off on R U N? this week, shutting out the Blackshirts 56-0. If Kiev wins their next two games against sPR 20th-ranked Minsk and 29th-ranked Nashville (as they should), the Cosmonauts will play the first game of the playoffs at home regardless of the other teams' outcomes. A great turnaround this season for Kiev, who missed the playoffs last year and was one of the bottom-feeders. Not anymore, Alpha, not anymore. Last game: Win vs. R U N? Blackshirts (2-12), 56-0... Next game: Away at Minsk Berzerkers (5-9)... Last week: #8 (+1)
8. x-Detroit Cheetahs (10-4), 27.351
Huge morale booster for the Cheetahs, romping all over the Lowell Bengal Tigers 62-0 in a game that wasn't even close. The Cheetahs were too good and too fast through the air and on the ground, but nevertheless Lowell should be congratulated for their efforts in such a rough first season. The EEAAA2 Alpha Game of the Week will pit the Cheetahs against Amsterdam in a game that may very well determine the top 6 seeds in Alpha. Last game: Win at Lowell Bengal Tigers (1-13), 62-0... Next game: At home vs. Amsterdam Dirty Dozen (11-3)... Last week: #9 (+1)
9. x-The Geriatric Couch Potatoes (10-4), 26.473
GCP clinches at least the sixth seed in the playoffs with a 16-6 win over Minsk that was much closer than the score indicated. The Potatoes hope to repeat the run they had last season, defeating Prague and Detroit before losing to eventual AA Alpha Champ and league runner-up MCXA Cybernationists. Albuquerque and a game Austin Pirates team remain on GCP's schedule. Last game: Win vs. Minsk Berzerkers (5-9), 16-6... Next game: Away at Albuquerque Regulators (2-12)... Last week: #10 (+1)
10. Combat Warriors (9-5), 25.852
Combat makes it to the top ten with a strong 33-6 win over a fading Wisla Krakow team. That is now seven straight wins for the Warriors, who've found a way to win after facing higher-ranked Amsterdam, GCP, and Kiev in weeks five through seven. Two near-impossible games to win for Combat (Prague and Stalingrad) will force the Warriors to cheer for Barger Hill to beat ATL in Week 15, which will guarantee the Warriors a playoff spot. Last game: Win vs. Wisla Krakow (5-9), 33-6... Next week: Away at Prague Monarchs (13-1)... Last week: #10 (+1)
CONTENDING FOR A TOP SPOT
11. San Jose Baggers (9-5), 25.54
Once a team that many considered was a joke, San Jose continues to put a move on the rest of the conference and is now just one win away from making the playoffs for season two. The Baggers were able to upset the Windy City Bears, shutting them out 10-0 in a game in which neither team could get much of an offensive game going. Major props to SJB owner Jose Bagg for his efforts this season. Last game: Win vs. Windy City Bears (10-4), 10-0... Next game: Away at Stalingrad Gryphon Army (13-1)... Last week: #12 (+1)
12. Windy City Bears (10-4), 24.243
A huge drop from Windy City following their loss to San Jose. Bears fans would have loved for Windy City to have clinched a playoff spot with a win over the Baggers, but it appears that WCB's playoff hopes are very much alive. A tie or better in their last two games is all WCB needs to make it to the playoffs for a second consecutive year. Krakow may be a problem, but Bratislava shouldn't be. Last game: Loss at San Jose Baggers (9-5), 0-10... Next game: At home vs. Krakow Outlaws (12-2)... Last week: #7 (-5)
13. Austin Pirates (9-5), 21.445
Austin continues their push for a second appearance in the playoffs with a 24-6 win over the Nebaska Huskers. Winners of five of their last six games, Austin is also hoping for a tie or better to make it to the postseason. However, they have a much tougher road than WCB as Demoniak and GCP await the Pirates' presence. Last game: Win at Nebaska Huskers (5-9), 24-6... Next game: At home vs. Demoniak Piggies (8-5)... Last week: #13 (same)
14. Nizhny Novgorod Vetz (8-6), 19.088
For the second week in a row, Nizhny wraps up our top spot contenders. The Vetz are almost guaranteed a playoff spot, holding the tiebreakers over Demoniak, Budapest, and Samara, all of whom share the 8-6 record. A cake game against Rostov next week should give Nizhny their first taste at the postseason. Last game: Win at Athenian Pitbulls (2-12), 56-3... Next game: At home vs. Rostov-on-Don Ducks (0-14)... Last week: #14 (same)
NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
15. Budapest Tigers (8-6), 14.838
16. Dnipropetrovsk Express (8-6), 13.945

18. Samara Salukis (8-6), 6.062
19. ATL Riders (7-7), 5.351
20. Minsk Berzerkers (5-9), -3.058

. We've added an offensive coordinator now also. Same way it's been in our big games this year, turnovers are the story that we can't get rid of, no matter what so far. We have some new ideas for the offense and defense though and they will be implemented next game, so stay tuned.
