Doc I know you explained this a long time ago, but is there a link you could point me to that explains Strength of Record / Quality of Play? I see the numbers but I'm not really sure what they mean, and what the difference between 27.8315959 and 35.15744722 means.

I've been wondering this myself.

Quality of play is (predicted score - actual score)

Its largely useless as the spreadsheat is never 100% with the sim. It only shows if you "live up" to the spreadsheats score prediction. Look at Strenght of Record instead, much more saying.


Strength of Record

Equation

Strength of Record = (Total number of wins of opponents you have defeated) - (Total number of losses of opponents that have beaten you)

Definition

This is measure of how good a team is. It rewards beating good teams and punishes for losing to bad teams.


Quality of Play

Equation

Quality of Play = (Actual total point differential) - (Predicted total point differential)

Definition

It is essentially how many points (total) that team has beaten (or not beaten) the spread by. I feel it is a good indicator of whether a team is playing better or worse than expected.
