12 Teams voted this week...awesome job guys and a BIG thank you!!
Editor's note: Before I get started I would just like to get something off of my chest. I like to put forward that this is the most unbiased poll in GLB. I like to say that the whole structure of this poll defeats any type of collusion of any kind. None of you know who votes from any team so none of you know who to approach for any kind of voting deals made before hand. If you want me to post who votes I can very easily do so, but I'd rather give you all the safety of anonymity to vote with your heart and without bias.
In doing so my job as a reporter is to report these votes and nothing else. I think I crossed the line last poll. I laid into the Somalia Pirates and The Angola Dream pretty good and questioned whether they both belonged or not. I was wrong in doing so. Very wrong. I may have influenced votes for this poll and I'm very sorry if this happened. The last thing I ever want to do is corrupt something I work so hard for.
In the sense of fairness I would like to point out that since the last poll, The Pirates won 2 games very handedly and lost to #9 Ghana by only 6 points. They are still 7 - 2 and have a better record than several teams on here. The Dream defeated #7 The ShadowChasers and lost to #6 Spider Monkeez. If my last review influenced this poll's results in any way I am sorry and I apologize to the owners and players of both teams. I beg you guys not to let anything I say sway you at all when you submit your polls. I will refrain from personal opinions in the future and just report the facts as best I can.
DD: (9-0)
LOL: (9-0)
There is nothing left to say. All the posturing and trash talk is worthless. These two teams meet tomorrow on the field of battle and when the dust is cleared there can only be one victor. Your guess is as good as mine who that will be. Do TB and Jedi go apeshit in a high scoring donnybrook? Do both incredible defenses shut down the offenses and we have a 7 - 6 slugfest? Does one team break off 2 big plays to decide the whole thing? Who the fuck knows. The only thing you can say with certainty, both teams are championship caliber and should see each other again in the playoffs. It doesn't end here that's for sure. Not by a longshot.
Des: (9-0)
The one team that no one should forget about, Dar es Salaam. They have done everything they've been asked to do and have every right to be spoken in the same breath as DD and LOL. If they were in Elephant and had the chance to prove their mettle against the other two undefeated teams they may get their share of first place votes. Let it be known that there were several polls submitted this week that had Dar es ranked 2nd over either DD or LOL, so they are getting respect, just maybe not enough as far as they are concerned. They still face four ranked Top Ten teams in their last 7 games, more than either DD or LOL. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out as we approach the final stretch. Next week there can only be 2 undefeated teams, The Warrior Kings hold their destiny in their own hands.
SLS: (8-1)
The Stallions are on a roll only surpassed by the undefeated teams. Eight wins in a row is nothing to sneeze at, especially when it includes the likes of The Pirates, Buffalos, Gunfighters, and Cripplers. They have 2 easy games next before their huge test against DD and LOL back to back. After all of the talk about DD and LOL this season, The Stallions are in position to fuck everyone's day up and grab the division by the throat. They have the talent and potential. Elephant is by no means a 2 horse race.
SISW: (7-2)
In a poll that's mostly stationary this week, The Sea Wolves are the leagues big movers and shakers. They have moved up 4 spots since the last poll off of their 3 convincing wins. Like The Stallions they are in striking distance of their division leader, but unlike The Stallions they will need some help if they wish to pass Dar es in the rankings come week 17. They've already lost to the Warrior Kings in a very close game, in fact they are the only Lion team to come close to beating Dar es. The Sea Wolves have their work cut out for them though, they face off against The Dream tomorrow, and follow that up with matches against The Warthogs, Rhinos, ShadowChasers, and Monkeez over the next 7 weeks. They are in a nice position but have to continue to play at the highest level to keep their spot in the poll.
ASM: (7-2)
The forgotten half of the "Evil Empire" have followed the same script as last year. Lose early against the best teams, get unnoticed, them come storming back and steamroll their way back to the top. The Monkeez had the dubious task of facing 2 of the top 3 teams in the league their first two games. They lost to LOL and Dar es right off the bat and fell off of everyone's radar. They then followed that up with 7 straight wins over some impressive teams and now find themselves back at #6 on the poll. Outta no where? Nah. These guys put the famed Bugeaters into retirement last year in the playoffs. They know how good they are, they just need a little kick start to show everyone else where they belong. Now they just have to beat The Rhinos, ShadowChasers, and Sea Wolves to stay there.
SSC: (7-2)
This team said fuck Cinderella, we just want to win. They beat The Warthogs 2 games ago and helped to knock them off of the poll. Thor laid down the gauntlet early in the season and said that he would win the passing title. Odin's son is backing his words with real thunder, leading all other passers by 600+ yards in APL. The ShadowChasers 2 losses have come to top notch teams in DD and The Dream and they have more than held their own since then. But in a very competitive Lion Conference they will have to keep the anger of Asgard on their side to come out unscathed against the likes of The Rhinos, Monkeez, Sea Wolves, and Warrior Kings. They will have to keep Loki at bay and support Thor with some running game less they face Ragnarok themselves. Yes I'm a comic nerd. Always was.
TLGoT: (6-3)
People have stated they want to see where The Gunfighters sit....where here they are. For how long, I don't know. Many of us feel this elite team is playing possum and biding their time until the playoffs come. But they have lost all 3 big Elephant games they have played so far against DD, LOL, and SLS. Now I can see the method to their madness, while the rest of Elephant is spending all of their energy beating each other's heads in, The Gunfighters are sitting back relaxing, taking it all in with a grin. They just gotta be careful they don't get too comfortable, teams like Ghana, Somalia, ABD, and Cairo would love nothing better than to be THE TEAM to take TLGoT out of the playoffs. They are safe for now, but the time to wake up is soon.
GB: (6-3)
Speaking of Ghana, here they are again. Back in the Top 10 after winning 3 in a row. These guys are in the same boat as TLGoT but no one has the nerve to tell these guys they aren't trying. They are like RRK of the Lion Conference. A goddamned buzzsaw that will take your hand off in a second if you don't pay them the attention they deserve. Ask the teams that played them in the playoffs last season. "Bah we're just playing Gha....WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED!!" Yeah they lost to DD, LOL, and SLS this year, but they were in every game. That's what they do. They lurk and wait and sit. As soon as you take them for granted, they tear your throat out and giggle while you sit there with a dumbass look on your face unable to speak. One thing that been bothering me though...you guys do realize the proper spelling is Buffaloes right Just asking....hehehe don't bite me.
WWR: (6-3)
The Champ is Here!!! A warm welcome back to the defending APL champs to the Top 10!! Where have you been? After losing 3 out of their 4 first games, Windhoek has gone on a 5-0 tear outscoring their opponents 205-56. Two of those wins came against ranked opponents verses The Warthogs and The Dream. Like so many other Lion teams, they have one hell of a closing schedule to contend with. In the next 7 weeks they have to face The ShadowChasers, Monkeez, Sea Wolves, and Warrior Kings. Now one may look at this as one hell of a difficult schedule, but as defending champs, The Rhinos have no choice but to look at this as their chance to regain their spot at the top of Lion. Whether that happens of not...well that's why we all play the games in the 1st place boys and girls.
Best of luck to all of you, even you guys from DD!!
