Nothing surprising in Zeta. I knew who would be the top 4 teams.

Looks like week 15 is the big showdown in Zeta at this point, unless something surprising happens.

Well i am not counting out tomorrows game against the savages. They are a worth opponent. If it weren't for the returned kicks for a touchdown against Komodo they had a shot at winning it.

I disagree. If we didn't return so many TDs, our defense wouldn't have been on the field as much, and they wouldn't have scored so many points late in the game. We were worn out because our offense didn't get a chance to be on the field as much as they could have. We got practically 500 yards of offense with 4 less drives due to return TDs... We punted one time. If those 4 returns weren't TDs, they still would have resulted in scores, most likely, and they wouldn't have had the ball for nearly as many plays.

I'm not saying they are bad, I'm just saying those 4 returns are the reason they scored as much as they did. When you have 73 pass plays (68 pass attempts plus 5 sacks) in a game, you are likely going to score... Consider 4 drives of 7 plays each... another 28 plays we would have had that they would not... So 73 plays down to 55ish, and they would have been lucky to score 24.

So, by making the assumption that those 4 return TDs would have ended up in no points when we only punted once all game is ludicrous. Add to the the extra time used on the 4 ensuing drives we would have gotten if the returns weren't TDs, and the score would likely have been more in favor of Komodo.

I wouldn't say that it is 'suprising' but what is most notable about this season is an illustration of how borked the promotion system really is. Zeta Conference is easily divided in 3 tiers of teams. There are a few teams at the top that really should be in a league with teams that are a little bit higher in level. At the bottom are a half dozen teams that are CPU, rebuilt or recently re-owned that do nothing but offer the 10 teams a chance to accumulate stupidly meaningless stats. Stuck in the middle are the teams that really belong AA that will have a roller coaster season between playing the teams on the either end of the spectrum and who in all probability don't have a shot at the Conf Championship. This makes it hard for them to get excited about the season and even more difficult with retaining players because we all know that many GLB agents are impatient in this space.

Three seasons ago both Komodo and PM had just been promoted and finished 7-9 and 6-10 respectively. The majority of the wins came against dud teams or other teams that were also in the just promoted situation also. Last season both teams returned to the playoffs and both offered some surprises. However, both would have a needed a seriously lucky turn of events to push to the Championship. The 3 season cycle now comes full circle.

I'd gladly trade away a season such as this one in the Zeta conference for one where 80% of the games could go either way and truly come down to game planning and strategy. And I mean no disrespect to any of the Zeta teams when I say this. Simple fact is that the teams that have been in AA for 3 or more seasons have had to re-do their personnel to compete with the teams that are now no longer here and many of the games are being decided based on the levels of players rather than on tactics.

So anyhow, that is how I feel about Season 9 so far.

Oh and Gameface ... Skeletor called and he wants his playbook back.

I agree 100% ^

I said before this season started, it was gonna be a repeat of season 6.... where we were like the last ones left off from promotion and steamrolled the league... and so far I am correct

and Skeletor had his chance with this playbook, but as usual he felt the need to gloat about having it in the end, and Orko was able to swipe it away

damn bad guys and their inability to secure a win

Ok so where does that leave us? We just got promoted and feel we are handling ourselves well. We are not in the class of Komodo or PM or SS. But SS didn't blow us out either. We seriously could contend for 4th this season (which I never thought would happen, so yes that is my suprise). So I am guessing by your post that we would be in that 2nd tier even though we only got promoted to AA this season? Just curious.

That sounds about right, except you are contending for 5th not 4th as you won't beat any of the 4 teams that returned from last season. PMS, Komodo, SS already beat you, and An Album Cover.

Maybe I'll do a power rankings thing for Zeta, if I have the time... I have a spreadsheet with an 'alpha' version of a Power Rankings calculator. It's not REAL accurate, but it's fun to look over.

Is your team CPU owned? No

Is your team being blown out 120-0 (or more)? No

Yup, you are in the middle tier.

If you go back and look at Season 7, I think there 2 teams that were easy blowout wins and both PM and Komodo won those games by scoring 80ish points. You have recorded 3 wins in which you scored 255 or more points. So yes, it appears that right now you are ahead of the curve but it is hard to measure when there is such a gap between tiers.
