Game of the Week 1: The Stallions #7 vs. The Pirates #8
Game of the Week 2: DD #1 vs. The Buffalos #9
The voters are not a forgiving bunch. The early polls are always unpredictable but I've never seen this much carnage from one poll to another. Four highly rated Lion teams all took a tumble this week, and one of them..The Rhinos...The defending Champs no less....amazingly fell all the way off the board from 2nd place with only 1 loss. That is unheard of! But I guess that's what can happen this early in the year when so many teams are bunched together. I just can't believe you guys let them off the hook so early, they like lurking in the background and not the spotlight.
The only team to survive an early loss and remain in the Top 10 are SLS, but they will have to fight to stay on this week as they face off against The Pirates in the first "Game of The Week". These two teams are ranked 7th and 8th respectively and the loser of this game will more than likely find themselves this year's first Elephant team to be knocked off the list. Not a title either team wants to hold.
One team that does NOT hate the spotlight is this week's new #1, DD. They finally did what they said they were going to do when they joined APL 2 seasons ago, they now stand alone atop the pile. But as luck would have it they will also have to fight for their bread tomorrow in the second "Game of the Week". They face off against last year's giant killers, The Buffalos, in what is sure to be a hotly contested brawl. Theses two teams tied last year and both squads are looking for retribution. Hide the women and children, this one is gonna get ugly.
LOL, TLGoT, and Dar es, are all in cruising mode and should all win this week.
Another interesting game tomorrow has The Dream meeting The Warthogs. Nairobi came up from AAA last season and won a respectable 7 games in their first year in APL, not bad but not great. But they opened up this year with a very nice win over The Stallions that opened some eyes. They would have surely been on this poll except they followed that win up with a loss to The Devils, a newly promoted team this year. This game will tell alot, are The Warthogs ready for prime time or do they still have some growing pains to go through first?
One team that I would like to acknowledge this week are the Nigeria Nightmares. These guys started in AA in Season 3. Fought their way up through the ranks, made the Pros in season 5 and even made the playoff their first two years here. They've had a rough 2 years since then but they didn't quit...like so many other teams have. (cough cough) How many squads have they seen come and go in APL alone since they came here four seasons ago? It's gotta be double digits easy, hell it's more likely close to 20! The fact that these guys have stuck it out through thick and thin and fought their way back to the Top 10 in style has to be applauded. Well done!! I wish you all the luck this year boys.
Ok that's it. Sorry this took so long but I was distracted by phone calls and the Phillies game. I really gotta turn my ringer off when I sit down to write these things.
Good luck everybody, see you after game 4.
Toad out.
