It's that time again for my predictions based on nothing but my own hapless opinion. Take them with the appropriate grain of salt. Normally I would do Eastern picks only but this is intra-conference week ofc.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Montana Grizzlies v Oklahoma Laters
Tough to pick a game of the week on week 1, but this seems like a good choice. Two playoff teams from last year square off and both will make the playoff again this year. Montana is the preseason East favorite. This will be close than the "bars" make thing appear. The difference should be the d-line play where I give Montana the advantage. Montana 31, Oklahoma 21.
OTHER GAMES
Pittsburgh Powerhouse v Golden State Giants
Pittsburgh has a fairly solid squad, but probably will miss the west playoffs. Golden State might make the West playoffs but certainly would not in the East. Pittsburgh is seriously lacking in depth and should fall a bit short. Golden State 24, Pittsburgh 21.
Detroit Diablos v Akron Browns
Both Detroit and Akron are about a season behind the USA A progression but both have solid builds and will be contenders next season. This season they both have an outside shot at the playoffs. I like Detroit's defense a bit better. Detroit 38, Akron 24.
Da NOLA Brah!!! K&B Purples v Savannah Lions
Da NOLA were whipping boys last season despite excellent builds due to their levels. This season they start administering some whippings. Da NOLA 95, Savannah 3.
Buffalo Beasts v Bakersfield Blitz
Buffalo snuck into the A playoffs last season at the last minute and Bakersfield was a so-so team in the West. These guys met in the preseason with Bakersfield beating down the Beasts. The preseason doesn't mean a whole lot but Bakersfield looks pretty good. Bakersfield 30, Buffalo 27.
Bowdoin Polar Bears v Old Glory Fighting Eagles
These two teams will struggle all season. Old Glory 17, Bowdoin 7.
Detroit Outlaws v Southside Spartan
Detroit moved up after a very nice season but will find they are a bit under-leveled for this league for now. Southside is a top contender and more importantly have some nice pics from my alma mater, Texas Tech. Southside 57, Detroit 21.
Welsh Dragons v Bronx Bears
Welsh will find out where they stand right away in A against a solid team in the Bronx, who moved up last season. This should be a fairly even matchup and come down to the end. Really another candidate for game of the week. I think the Bears will get more push on both lines. Bronx 33, Welsh 20.
Furious George v Ivalice Tacticianers
Maybe the top newcomer to A will play a very solid team that is very overmatched this game. Furious 55, Ivalice 10.
Vice City Mambas v Chicago Beasts
The Beasts of the West will be quite out-gunned in this one and VC's air raid offense. Vice City 70, Chicago 17.
Atlanta Wolves v Los Angeles Sharks
Atlanta is a solid playoff team and Los Angeles has a bright future with good builds. Los Angeles is just giving up too much firepower here. Atlanta 55, Los Angeles 10.
Manhattan Massacre v New York Murder's Row
These cross town rivals should present a good game. New York is likely not a playoff team, while Manhattan may has an outside shot of making it in the stronger East. Manhattan 35, New York 21.
Houghton Gremlins v Sacramento Vikings
Sacramento is a good solid team and Houghton used to be great but now CPU. Sacramento 200, Houghton 0.
New Orleans Poison v Burleson Assassins
Burleson is a top West contender and NO used to be a nice team but is rebuilding. Burleson 255, New Orleans 0.
Maine Hawks v Memphis Showboats
One of the better games of week 1, these guys met in the preseason with a decisive Maine victory. Like I said earlier, preseason doesn't mean a lot. Memphis will be a threat in West and Maine will probably get a home game in the East. I like Maine better on both lines. Maine 35, Memphis 28.
Martha's Vineyard Ballbusters v Las Vegas Miscreants
Welcome MV to A, about time! They are a very good team that will compete for a home playoff game while Las Vegas will be competitive in the West. MV has more talent and veteran leadership. Martha's Vineyard 42, Las Vegas 24.
