Every 5 training pts gives 1 bonus token. 8 bonus tokens = 1 equipment upgrade.

Every 2 training pts gives 1 shopping token. However the advanced items shop is completely random.

Is it worth it to spend so many training pts on shopping tokens for random items when 8 bonus tokens = DEFINITe +1 upgrade?

Yes, when you have a crap piece that you bought just because it's marginally better...but you are starting to get into the really expensive AEQ upgrades. You don't want to blow $400-600k on upgrading to L40/48 on a shitting piece of AEQ.

You can only upgrade advanced equipment with bonus tokens
To get advanced equipment you need to spend shopping tokens
If you are boosting a player regularly, you can only maintain 2 pieces of AEQ

So you need to get the right pieces of AEQ with shopping tokens before you can use bonus tokens to upgrade.

Sometimes you just have to train and shop everyday until a good piece comes along. Then back to intense.

Or train intensively until you get enough points to make it worthwhile to shop. Or train and horde your ST's until your happy with your player to a certain point and then swap to intense.
