Europe East AAA #2 Power Rankings
created by sawedust

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to this week's edition of sawedust's EEAAA2 Power Rankings, (unofficially) sponsored by the new Indiana Jones movie. For if it was just called The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, no one would bother with it.

VERY BIG SHAKEUP this week in EEAAA2, with top teams in the power rankings being upset left and right.

We start at the top, with Barger Hill's 10-game winning streak coming to a close after Detroit beat the Burglars, 17-10. This was a surprise to many in the league, as BHB was always the top or second-ranked team after Week 1. Major props to Detroit for pulling out the win of the year.

Barger Hill's loss means Lafayette is the last remaining undefeated team in AAA2. The Rajun Cajuns' streak of ten games without allowing a touchdown ended when Windy City's Sid Luckyman connected with Pete Morowski for a 7-yard TD strike. However, that was all Windy City could manage as LRC won, 36-7.

Other upsets this week includes The Geriatric Couch Potatoes' 10-3 loss against the Kiev Cosmonauts and Nizhny's 19-16 thriller in overtime against Demoniak.

For those of you who are new to the sawedust Power Ranking system, here's an explanation of how these rankings have been set up:

The following statistics have been broken down into two parts: Overall Season and Last Four Games. The "Overall" portion takes into account a team's performance over the entire season. The "Last Four Games" portion takes into account a team's recent performances. By using the L4 in my stats, I am able to accurately gauge how well a team is currently doing (if players were signed/released, etc). Anyway, here are the stats used...

Win-Loss
For the most part, winning is everything. More wins equals more points in the rankings.

Strength of Schedule
This determines the level of opponents a team has faced.

Margin of Victory
There is no room for sympathy in GLB. Blow your opponents out in order to move up in the rankings.

Points For/Against
This gauges the overall strength of a team's offense and defense.

Miscellaneous
Players, tactics, etc.

CHANGE IN THE POWER RANKINGS FORMULA

You may notice that this week's power ranking numbers look a lot different, and teams are now bunched close together numerically. I have tweaked the numbers in order to push these teams closer together so that the average team will be rated at or near 0. Teams will no longer be separated by 20+ points in the top ten... that number will shrink. However, there are still significant gaps in between teams of different power levels.

I want to ensure everyone that the change in numbers DOES NOT AFFECT THE RANKINGS. I have done both the original and new number calculating formulas, comapred them side by side, and ALL 32 RANKINGS remained the same.

Now that I've got that out of the way...

Here are your OFFICIAL Week 11 Power Rankings!

THE TOP TEN

1. Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (11-0), 48.068
Lafayette is the last remaning undefeated team as Barger Hill slipped and lost to Detroit. A bit of disappointment for the Cajuns defense, allowing their first touchdown this season. Could this be a sign of things to come? Next week, LRC will participate in the EEAAA2 Game of the Week as their number one defense takes on the number one offense in the Stalingrad Gryphon Army. Last game: Win, 36-7 at Windy City Bears (8-3)... Next game: At home vs. Stalingrad Gryphon Army (10-1)... Last week: #2 (+1)

2. Stalingrad Gryphon Army (10-1), 41.721
Another high-scoring game for Stalingrad puts the Gryphon Army in their highest power ranking this season. Since the loss to Krakow in Week 1, Stalingrad has scored over 20 points and allowed 10 or less in each of their last ten games. Guns better be a-blazing when they head over to Cajun Field for what might be the greatest game this season. Last game: Win, 71-0 vs. Nashville Nobles (1-10)... Next game: Away at Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (11-0)... Last week: #4 (+2)

3. Prague Monarchs (10-1), 41.391
Prague can now lay claim to being the highest-ranked Alpha team with another big win over a top ten team, shutting out the Dnipropetrovsk Express 16-0. With two games down and three more to go in this rough string of games for Prague, the way they've been playing suggests that they'll come out from this test of true skills with Alpha's number one playoff seed. Last game: Win, 16-0 at Dnipropetrovsk Express (7-4)... Next game: At home vs. Wisla Krakow (5-6)... Last week: #5 (+2)

4. Krakow Outlaws (10-1), 40.286
Krakow has a playoff spot guaranteed with Rostov, Elancourt, and R U N? on their schedule, three teams that SHOULD lose big time to the Outlaws. However, their other two opponents, Nizhny and Windy City, could mix up the playoff seeding if either of those teams is able to defeat Krakow in the upcoming weeks. Last game: Win, 54-0 at Athenian Pitbulls (1-10)... Next game: At home vs. Rostov-on-Don Ducks (0-11)... Last week: #3 (-1)

5. Detroit Cheetahs (8-3), 39.354
The Cheetahs have pulled off the upset, taking out previously undefeated Barger Hill by a final score of 17-10. With Coach K handing off the reigns of both offensive and defensive controls to his coordinators, it may be possible that this Detroit team might be a lot stronger than they were before. Look out, Alpha Conference. Last game: Win, 17-10 vs. Barger Hill Burglars (10-1)... Next game: Away at Combat Warriors (6-5)... Last week: #7 (+2)

6. Barger Hill Burglars (10-1), 37.449
The fall in the power rankings stop here for Barger Hill. The Burglar squad must be extremely disappointed leaving Detroit without a win, something that they have had for the last ten games. It will be interesting to see how Barger Hill recovers from this loss that pushes them out of the top two spots for the first time since Week 1. Last game: Loss, 10-17 at Detroit Cheetahs (8-3)... Next game: At home vs. Dnipropetrovsk Express (7-4)... Last week: #1 (-5)

7. Amsterdam Dirty Dozen (8-3), 28.483
Amsterdam could very well be second or third best team in the Alpha Conference, as their current roster now looks stacked like never before. ADD has been on a seven-game winning streak since their Week 4 loss to Barger Hill, all of them by two scores or more. Amsterdam has a relatively cake schedule until their Week 15 showdown with Detroit, one that could very well decide who receives which seed in the playoffs. Last game: Win, 30-0 at Bratislava Redskins (4-7)... Next game: At home vs. R U N? Blackshirts (2-9)... Last week: #8 (+1)

8. Windy City Bears (8-3), 22.838
Windy City broke Lafayette's streak of not allowing a touchdown, but one score was not enough to take down EEAAA2's number one team. Something I find weird about Windy City is their tendency to lose by a huge margin. Either this team is facing very superior competition in those losses, or they are on a consistency level similar to that of Samara. Last game: Loss, 7-36 vs. Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (11-0)... Next game: Away at Nebaska Huskers (5-6)... Last week: #6 (-2)

9. Dnipropetrovsk Express (7-4), 22.225
The Express retains the ninth spot despite losing for the second week in a row, this time to third-ranked Prague in a shutout loss. DXP has a chance to end their losing streak and pull off another big win if they can take out Barger Hill, whom I suspect will still be reeling from the loss to the Cheetahs. We'll see how this one turns out in the Alpha Conference Game of the Week. Last game: Loss, 0-16 vs. Prague Monarchs (10-1)... Next game: Away at Barger Hill Burglars (10-1)... Last week: #9 (same)

10. Austin Pirates (7-4), 14.686
The Pirates make their first appearance in the top ten after a impressive display of both offense and defense in their win over Samara this past week. Three of Austin's losses were against top ten teams, and the team they field now isn't the same one they had when they lost to San Jose in Week 1. Can Austin stay in the top ten? Last game: Win, 35-0 vs. Samara Salukis (6-5)... Next game: Away at Nashville Nobles (1-10)... Last week: #13 (+3)

CONTENDING FOR A TOP SPOT

11. The Geriatric Couch Potatoes (7-4), 14.535
GCP falls out of the top ten for the first time since Week 3. Something isn't right with the team at the moment, after failing to put up any kind of offensive attack and a weary defense that was uncharacteristically bad. Luckily for GCP, making the playoffs is still very likely as they face four easy teams before Austin awaits them in their regular season finale. Last game: Loss, 3-10 at Kiev Cosmonauts (7-4)... Next game: At home vs. Bratislava Redskins (4-7)... Last week: #10 (-1)

12. Kiev Cosmonauts (7-4), 12.601
A nice win for Kiev, pushing them up the ladder in the chase for a playoff spot in a very tight Alpha Conference. Very impressive display of defense by the Cosmonauts last week, holding GCP to 160 yards of total offense. Let's see if they can keep this up against an ATL team that's looking for a way to bounce back from a horrible slump. Last game: Win, 10-3 vs. The Geriatric Couch Potatoes (7-4)... Next game: Away at ATL Riders (6-5)... Last week: #14 (+2)

13. Samara Salukis (6-5), 11.259
I have absolutely no idea why Samara is still ranked this high after losing four of their last fives games, barely squeaking out a win against poor Elancourt team. Depth problems have plagued Samara this entire season, and the energy effects incorporated by GLB head honcho Bort may be causing these problems for Samara. Last game: Loss, 0-35 at Austin Pirates (7-4)... Next game: At home vs. Budapest Tigers (6-5)... Last week: #12 (-1)

14. Demoniak Piggies (7-4), 8.521
Demoniak slips a spot with a surprising loss to Nizhny, one of the bottom feeders in Zeta last season. The pick thrown by backup QB Brody Villa led to the game-tying score for the Vetz, who would go on and win in overtime. One has to wonder why Demoniak doesn't feed the ball to their powerful RB tandem instead of putting it in the hands of an inferior quarterback. Costly error by the Piggies. Last game: Loss, 16-19 in OT at Nizhny Novgorod Vetz (6-5)... Next game: At home vs. Elancourt Templiers (3-8)... Last week: #11 (-3)

15. Nizhny Novgorod Vetz (6-5), 8.299
Nizhny pulls off the overtime win, and the Vetz look like they've found a way to turn their team around after such a disappointing season last year. This is their third significant win over a good team, the others being Budapest and Samara. Nizhny may be able to sneak into the playoffs, but that will require them to win at least three of their final five games. Two of those opponents just happen to be fourth-ranked Krakow and seventh-ranked Amsterdam. Last game: Win, 19-16 in OT vs. Demoniak Piggies (7-4)... Next game: Away at San Jose Baggers (6-5)... Last week: #15 (+1)

16. Budapest Tigers (6-5), 8.253
Rounding out the top spot contenders are the Budapest Tigers, who along with the Austin Pirates are one of the most underrated teams in Zeta. Budapest had a nice 34-10 win over Palermo, and will now be facing Samara, who Austin beat handily 35-0. Can Budapest manage the same success? Last game: Win, 34-10 at Palermo Pounders (1-10)... Next game: Away at Samara Salukis (6-5)... Last week: #15 (-1)

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

17. ATL Riders (6-5), 5.764
18. Combat Warriors (6-5), 0.592
19. San Jose Baggers (6-5), -1.071
20. Wisla Krakow (5-6), -5.895
21. Minsk Berzerkers (4-7), -8.542
22. Nebaska Huskers (5-6), -13.155

DIVINE INTERVENTION

23. Albuquerque Regulators (2-9), -18.096
24. Bratislava Redskins (4-7), -18.838
25. Elancourt Templiers (3-8), -24.239
26. Palermo Pounders (1-10), -29.64
27. Athenian Pitbulls (1-10), -31.542

FACING RELEGATION

28. Nashville Nobles (1-10), -37.322
29. Ufa Panthers (2-9), -37.631
30. R U N? Blackshirts (2-9), -37.757
31. Rostov-on-Don Ducks (0-11), -40.368
32. Lowell Bengal Tigers (0-11), -55.066

There you have it, your OFFICIAL EEAAA2 Week 11 Power Rankings brought to you this week by sawedust and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Because Harrison Ford, despite being 129417294 years old, can still do the swingy jumps and stuff.

Now... DISCUSS!

Good work Saw.

Damn dropped to 4th after a convincing 54-0 win. Oh well, onward and upward (hopefully). All that matters is that we win, no matter how much by.

Mmmm... they were a 1-9 team when you faced them, you're SUPPOSED to win 54-0.

The Outlaws do own the head to head over us... the only rankings that really matter are the ones on June 5th

Head-to-head means nothing in Power Rankings, these are just to monitor which teams are the best at this point in time.

Woah. Now this, I was not expecting. #1 to #6 based on one loss? Damn.

As sawedust said, I am no longer in power of the Cheetahs. For better or worse, we'll see how this goes for the rest of the season

I resent the implication! But it's essence is very true. I have like ten winning coaches that have players on my team...why not tap their knowledge for wins? I may know enough to get us here (or be lucky enough), but the playoffs are all about the minor things the other coaches may know that I don't.

It will be interesting for the rest of the year watching opposed to "doing".

So this is what everyone thinks the express should be ranked in my opinion we are going to win no matter how you put it. Oh yeah though nice format for the rankings and I was wondering if we could vote on mvps and probowlers and stuff like that.

I was surprised at first too. But when you take a look at the stats...

LRC
W-L: 11-0 (1st)
SoS: 0.658 (32nd)
SoS4: 0.63 (t-23rd)

Undefeated, the only reason why they're number one.

DET
W-L: 8-3 (t-6th)
SoS: 1.123 (t-9th)
SoS4: 2.667 (1st, by a mile)

SoS multiplier drives Detroit up insanely high. Coming away at 2-2 and leaving the two losses close gets them up there.

BHB
W-L: 10-1 (t-2nd)
SoS: 0.704 (t-30th)
SoS4: 0.571 (t-27th)

Weak SoS. One loss with an easy schedule like this and you'll fall. Same thing will go for Lafayette if they lose this week against Stalingrad, it'll be a similar fall down several spots.
