Western Conference Round 1

1. TBS vs 8. TBL: This first round match up is for the rights of Thunder Bay. The Sabertooth's bring their Conference best record 15-1 to the table in the rematch of week 4’s 41-10 tooth's victory. The Sabertooths have had a solid season through out being consistent and determined for the number 1 seed. With their lone loss coming to the hands of Algoma the Tooth’s have not really been tested all year. On the other side the Lycans has been a streaky team all year. Winning their first three games and then losing the next three, only to win the next 5, to once again lose the next 3 and finally finishing the season with two wins. Unfortunately while the Lycans all be it are a very talented bunch, I think they are a season away from being a top contender for the title. The Lycans just can’t match up with the Sabertooths depth. While the game will be closer than it was in the regular season the Saber’s should still walk away pretty easily. Prediction: Sabertooths win 31-14

4. Lethbridge vs 5. Timber Bay: By far the best game of the first round. These teams are matched up perfectly with each other its sad that one team’s season will end. After back to back weeks against one another the Lethbridge bring their number 1 passing attack vs the leagues’ number 2 pass defense. On the flip side Timber Bay brings their number 4 rushing attack vs the number 3 rush defense. Lethbridge has won their last 8 of 9 games, while Timber Bay has won 7 of its last 9. You can flip a coin in this one, but I am going to take Timber Bay in this one just because they have a few more active people then Lethbridge, and it could come in handy in this tight slug fest. Prediction: Timber Bay wins 24-21

2. Algoma vs 7. Hudson Bay: The loss to Lethbridge early in the season definitely came back to haunt Algoma down the stretch for the number 1 seed. Along with TBS Algoma has been the gold standard in the West with a solid season with a couple of hick ups along the way. Their number 1 rushing attack will be tested against a very pesky seal in Hudson Bay. Hudson Bay a power from the BBB#3 a season ago has clawed their way into the post season even though they lost their last 4 of 6 games. Their number 4 passing offense should cause some problems for the 9th ranked passing defense of Algoma. However knowing first hand and witnessing Algoma take down some powers that be in BBB#4 a couple of seasons ago the Seals will be going back into the ocean waiting for their time to strike again next season. Prediction: Algoma 31-14

3. Toronto vs 6. Moose Jaw: Toronto and company bring in their high flying offense (#2 in passing and #3 in Rushing) against a stingy defense in Moose Jaw. Both teams have been hot in recent weeks with Toronto winning their last 10 of 11, while the Jaw had won 11 straight before dropping their final two. This game should be interesting while the Punisher took care of Moose Jaw back in week 3 that loss truly propelled the Mac Attack into a winning Frenzy. This game is going to be my upset special. While the Punishers may be the better all around team offensively and defensively sound the Punishers let a couple of games get away from them. Games they probably should have won. The Jaw however did just the opposite stealing a couple of games they probably didn’t expect. Prediction: Moose Jaw wins 24-23

Eastern Conference:
1. Grand Banks vs 8. KK: Grand Banks brings their perfect record against a very talented and tough KK squad. The KK have a solid offense, but the Banks have arguably the best defense out of the east. The KK have lost their last 6 of 8 games after starting their season off strong. The Grand Banks has only truly been tested once this season and has steam rolled the competition thus far. While the KK have the #2 passing attack, their lack of run game will force them into being one dimensional which you can not do against a talented defense. Prediction: Grand Banks wins 40-10

4. Ontario vs 5. Lincoln: An impressive season for rookie Can A Ontario. Ontario did not do one thing superb on offense or on defense; however they won which is all that matters. They beat teams they should have; lost to one they shouldn’t have, and beat a team they shouldn’t have. They are solid group with a very talented roster. Lincoln pretty much had the exact same season as the Explorers. They beat who they had to; lost to one they shouldn’t have, and probably won a game they shouldn’t. Again a very talented roster. The regular season edge went to Ontario with a 30-24 win over the Lucky. The playoffs are a different game and a different animal for teams, but for Ontario it’s just another game. Prediction: Ontario wins 28-20

2. Providence vs 7. Charlestown: Congratulations Chiefs you’ve made the playoffs, oh but guess what you’re up against a juggernaut known as the Providence Radicals. Providence has done exactly what the Banks as done all year dominated the competition with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Noses. The Chiefs have had a good season, a little better then these writers expected, but a good one none the less. The regular season match up was simply ugly to watch (I wouldn’t know since the score was ugly enough). But a similar situation happened last year when the Chiefs avenged their 104-40 loss to the Lowriderz in the playoffs; however this year will be no sweet revenge for the chiefs. The Radicals will continue their dominance, but may get a wake up call after this game. Prediction Providence wins 35-21 (take the over)

3. S.W.O vs New Brunswick: The Bombers are the best thing on turf (grass/artificial whatever) offensively. Defensively a little loosey goosey. The Donkey’s on the other hand are simple. They’re going to run, and you may know its coming, but can you stop it? The Bombers have had a solid last half of the season winning their last 4 of 6 games. The Swamp Donkey’s have had a solid year losing to the top two teams, and maybe taking the Explorers for granted. This game is pretty simple to predict. The Donkey’s are going to run, run, and run some more, while the Bombers will be flying all over the place on offense. These two teams can not be father apart on the offensive and defensive spectrum. With that sad I think the Bombers may have something in store for the Donkey’s, but I think it will be futile and the Bombers offense will not be on the field enough to help. Prediction S.W.O. wins 33-30

Western Conference
Round 2

1. TBS vs 5. Timber Bay: This game should be a barn burner. The regular season match up was one to remember. TBS squeaking out a 45-41 victory may have made Ryan sweet just a little. In fact Timber bay out gained the Sabertooths by the count of 424 yards to 327. However turnovers killed Timber Bay losing a fumble and throwing two picks. The Sabertooths walked away from that game feeling lucky, while giving the Snow Cats some confidence knowing they can compete with the best from the West. However TBS is just too deep and Timber Bay this time doesn’t have the luxury of sneaking up on the Saber’s. Prediction TBS wins 21-14

2. Algoma vs 6. Moose Jaw: Algoma was upset by the same Mac Attack in week 9. But was the Arena Rockers looking a couple weeks ahead to their TBS match up and over looked the Mac Attack? Regardless the Jaw pounded the rock for a 3.2 avg, but kept with it, while the Rockers where successful on the ground but had an air attack game plan. The Rockers won’t make the same mistake, and while Ryan is probably rooting for the Mac Attack, they will be facing the rockers: Prediction: Algoma wins 35-14

Eastern Conference
Round 2

1. Grand Banks vs .4. Ontario: While Ontario put up 30+ points against a stout Grand Banks defense in the season finally one thing is for certain, it better be a different offensive game plan. Ontario should hold its head up high for such a successful season, because Grand Banks has a hot date waiting. Prediction: Grand Banks wins 45-20

2. Providence vs 3. S.W.O Donkey’s: In week two the Donkey’s were dismantled by the tune of 32-3 against the Radicals. S.W.O. only gathered 144 total yards of offense. But look at the bright side they held the Radicals offense to the tune of 290 yards. Make no mistake about it, Providence wants another shot at those Bluenoses, but they first have to take care of some business to get there. The Donkey’s need to stick with what they do best, and hope they can find some open holes to run through. But Providence is just too strong on both sides of the ball. The score will be much closer than that lopsided week 2 game. Prediction: Providence wins 21-14

Western Conference
Championship

1. TBS vs 2. Algoma: Sadly there were probably two teams TBS didn’t want to see, Timber Bay (who the beat in the second round) and Algoma, a team that handled them pretty convincingly in their regular season match up. The funny thing is TBS probably expected to have an easier road to the title….after all they’re the number 1 seed. But its actually been Algoma the two seed that’s had the easier road. Will this unexpectedly tough playoff for TBS make them battled tested enough to face the Rockers, who has won a championship already? This game will definitely be a barn burner probably the polar opposite of what is about the take place over in the East. TBS has had a strong season, but there are some teams others don’t match up well against and I think the veteran leadership of stumanroo will be the difference in the game. Prediction: Algoma wins 51-48

Eastern Conference
Championship

1. Grand Banks vs 2. Providence: Yes the date has finally arrived for these two clubs. Both clubs have had nothing to do the last 9 weeks, but wait and watch the other get win after win after win. This game will be the game of the year. Both teams are sick on defense, and are aggressive on offense. In their week 7 match up the Noses squeaked by with a 19-17 victory. Expect a low scoring game in this one, if you like defense, your going to see the two best in my opinion. This game is so close that it almost comes up to a coin flip. In fact it will. Heads Grand Banks, tails Providence. I will make it a best of 5. Prediction Providence wins 3-2 (which will be the actual score).

Super Bowl
2. Providence vs 2. Algoma: This should be a good match up for the title. While Algoma has been stingy on defense during this playoff run, the occasionally get a little lose and have a tendency to give up some big plays. On the other side the Radicals are solid defensively and have been lights out on defense this post season run. While I do like the veteran leadership of stum I do love defense. Simply put defense wins championships and in this game it couldn’t be any simpler then defense. Algoma’s defense is good, Providence defense is great. Prediction: Providence wins 21-10.
