You can say that, but if those companies had crashed and burned, most of us would be unemployed.
We haven't had a free market in this country for the last 100 years.

A lot of us are getting unemployed anyway, and will continue to due to this kind of "fix"
Had it been done right in the first place we'd all be better off.

People who say to let it crash and burn really dont understand what would have happened if that was allowed.

Agreed. Our financial system is rather more complex than most would like to believe.
I do think we should have taken a lead from the Chinese government and executed the top brass from these companies that collapsed and nearly destroyed that financial system.

And you understand what would have happened? Bullshit.
The free market system was not setup to be run like this, and what is going to happen may be, actually, far worse than letting it fail................more government control over every aspect of our lives. If i wanted that, I would have move to a communist country years ago.
Give me a failed economic system over communism/socialism/marxism anyday.

I can handle not having material things in my life.
I can't handle having the government tell me how i'm going to live with material things.

Another thing zeke, do you even understand the full spectum of what AIG or the others like AIG do? If you do I would love to hear your take on the realities of the economic crash that would have happened without government intervention. If you think that the US/world is in bad economic shape now then you dont even know the tip of the iceberg. That being said, I dont approve of anything that they did but the fact is that you just cant let them fade away.

Show me these facts. Prove it to me that you know what you're talking about here.
What would happen if they collapsed? Short-term economic downturn more than it is now? Big flip....another company would have come in to pick up the slack. That's how the free market system is supposed to work. And when they did, they wouldn't get away with what AIG did. This is just a band-aid for a deep wound THAT WON'T STOP BLEEDING. Just a short-term fix that's actually bad, in the long run, for us.
While you're pretending to know what you're talking about, go back and read the Constitution and what our founding-fathers wrote up for the government of the United States, because this is EXACTLY what they DIDN'T have in mind. They wanted a LIMITED government in a free-market system. And what do we have now? We have PUBLIC SERVANTS like Shumer and Frank telling employees of a private company that they're going to go in and TAKE their bonus money. Who the fuck do they think they are? I don't like all that bonus money either, but these assholes should have never bailed them out in the first place, and then have the balls to say they're STEALING people's money.
It's absurdity, and anyone who calls themselves a true American and know what this country was founded on should be outraged over what the government is doing.
