Week 12 Games...
DECATUR STALEYS (10-1) vs Alaska Wild (6-5)
DECATUR is the looking forward to their ultimate showdown with Honolulu in week 13, but they definitely won't be overlooking Alaska Wild, especially after the Wild nearly pulled off a major upset of downing Honolulu last week. Alaska will do their work to try to make it happen this week against the other top ranked team, the STALEYS. One thing is for sure, no one will overlook the dangerous Alaska team. DECATUR is thinking they need a little press coverage here instead of just the Wild - and that is fair. I think they will end the regular season 15-1 to earn the top spot. Of course, there are still a couple of teams that want their shot! DECATUR by 13, 41-28.
Honolulu Skulls (10-1) vs Dayton Gumslingers (2-9)
Honolulu definitely wants to make sure everyone knows that they are not going to be knocked off. They will be looking forward to their game with DECATUR next week. Can the Gumslingers sneak up on them and pull out an upset? After all, they are coming off their second win of the season and want a little respect. Uh, no. They won't get the upset, and unless they can keep it within 17 points or score 30+ points, they won't be gaining any respect this week either. Honolulu avenges the closeness of last week by stomping the Gumslingers by 42, 52-10.
Christmas Islanders (9-2) vs An Album Cover (6-5)
Christmas has very quietly just gone about their business all season, racking up 9 wins in a row. They would like to keep their #3 ranking, so a victory over AAC is a must. An Album Cover may not win every game or dominate teams to get the headlines, but similar to Alaska Wild, they will rarely knock themselves out of a game. They usually will manage to keep it close enough that a mistake here or there will cost you. Christmas is the slightly better team, but never count out AAC. Christmas by 15, 35-20.
Komodo Dragons (9-2) vs Samoa Savages (5-6)
Komodo has had a great season and would like to close out the regular season with 5 more victories. They have likely already earned themselves a top 4 spot in the playoffs, but don't want to show any weakness now. Samoa is a tough and scrappy team that is fighting for one of the last couple of playoffs spots. It will probably come down to Alaska, AAC and Samoa for the last 2 spots, all right at 8-8. Every win is key for them now. This one would be an upset and make a big difference in that final position. Can they do it? I think they have the manpower to keep this one close, but sometimes they don't seem to show up. If they come to play, it will be a good game. Komodo has been very consistently solid all season, so they will get the nod by 14, 27-13.
Devonport Devils (7-4) vs Port Moresby Scallywags (7-4)
Devonport has fought to get themselves back into contention after a difficult early schedule and rough start. Port Moresby has four losses, but they are all to top tier teams. These two teams are tied for 5th place and that's about right, they are pretty even with each other. I think game planning will make a big difference in this game or a turnover or two may decide it. If it comes down to a FG, then I might give the edge to Devonport. This could easily go either way, but I'll say Devonport by 3, 33-30.
Fiji Rage (6-5) vs Rochester Iroquois (3-8)
Fiji was the big news story this week with the announcement by mgoblue. How will this impact this game? Rochester has been steadily improving over the last few weeks. As mentioned last week, they were counting down to a blastoff and indeed they did on Ayers Rock. Can they keep their new found winning ways? It's hard to know with the Fiji changes, but I'll pick Rochester by 7, 30-23.
Dunedin Drones (4-7) vs Ayers Rock Krakens (3-8)
I don't know for sure, but my guess is that this is a game that both teams have been looking forward to. The Drones put up good matches early this season, but the last couple of weeks have been pretty lopsided. It makes one wonder if they have given up on this season. Ayers Rock has played hard all season, but are just not up to the level of the competition yet. However, this game should be a good matchup. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Krakens are going to pull an upset this week. I'm going to go with Ayers Rock by 4, 24-20.
Lexington Cruise Lines (1-15) vs Suva Sparklets (0-16)
It's the game we all have been waiting for... the week we end up with only one winless team. It will be written about in the annals of history as "The Battle for the Bottom." Who will claim the title? Well, it's not really that big of question. Lexington will get victory number 1 and only, while Suva can hold their head high as the owner of the title of Oceania AA#4 Zeta Bottom Dweller. Lexington wins by 28, 45-17. Can Lexington really score that many points? Can Suva? We are all waiting anxiously to see the results!
Enjoy the games.
