Week 10 Rankings for USA #7 (Western Conference)

Last week’s rankings:

I could use some help doing these, so if any of the owners/GM's or even people on the team could PM me what you thought went right and wrong in your games (like what I've done here), it would save me a bunch of time. Thanks

Disclaimer: I am the owner of the New Brunswick n00bs and this is only my opinion based upon how the teams looked when I saw them

1. Waco Davidians
2. Oakland Wizards
3. Great Plains Reapers
4. Bel Air Beardogs
5. Spicewood Longhorns
6. Dallas Red Raiders
7. Las Vegas Stunners
8. Scottsdale Sun Demons
9. New Brunswick n00bs
10. Hartford Hellhounds
11. Portland Hitmen
12. Miami Cyclones
13. Grand Haven Mist
14. RGB Berzerk
15. Ambridge Brigade
16. Chicago Clams

1. Waco Davidians - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1220
What went right: Offense – Jeez…this was a sickening display of offensive power (with a shutdown defense sprinkled in, haha). Over 600 yards gained and enough TDs to cause their kicker’s foot to go numb, the Davidians scored in all ways possible, running it down the middle, from the side, bombing it and dumping it off.
What went wrong: Punter – I guess he got a little rusty because he didn’t need to punt very much this game. In a game where nearly everything went perfectly averaging under 20 yds/punt when most of the punts started on your side of the field isn’t so great.
Recent Game: W 71-0 at RGB
Record: 9-1
Previous Rank: 1
Next Game: vs Spicewood Longhorns

2. Oakland Wizards - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1215
What went right: Kicker – In a surprisingly close game, the Wizards found themselves at the mercy of their kicker and he came through in a huge way. Hitting all 5 of his FGs from 20-41 yds away, the Wizards rode Seth Logan’s golden foot to victory.
What went wrong: Clutch Offense – The Wizards spent a large part of this game on Miami’s side of the field, but never seemed to be able to get that gut-wrenching, door-closing play. The offense let Miami hang around the whole game as the defense did a decent job holding Miami’s offense at bay. If a few kicks had gone awry, this game could have been the biggest shocker of the season. Instead it was just a wake-up call to the Wizards that they shouldn’t take anyone in this conference lightly.
Hellen Keller Watch:Wow, it seems that the new dolphin splicing operation that gave Hellen Keller sonar is really working. She’s been performing exceptionally well the past few games. In this one, she single-handedly led the Wizards down an important time-consuming drive in the 4th quarter that resulted in a FG and helped solidify the win.
Recent Game: W 22-14 at Miami
Record: 9-1
Previous Rank: 2
Next Game: vs Las Vegas Stunners

3. Great Plains Reapers - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1212
What went right: Practically Everything – When you only have to punt twice and score 72 points, you know that your offense is good to go. When you force the other team into punting it 13 times and holding them to negative rushing yards, you know that your defense is solid. Put them together and you have as close to a flawless game as you possibly can.
What went wrong: Kicker – Granted his foot probably got tired from all the kicking, but he missed 2 FGs. But with this game, you just shrug your shoulders and move on, haha.
Recent Game: W 72-0 at Ambridge
Record: 8-2
Previous Rank: 3
Next Game: vs Bel Air Beardogs

4. Bel Air Beardogs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1224
What went right: Defense – This was a beautiful display of defensive prowess. The defense only allowed Grand Haven 3 drives that lasted longer than 4 plays and when Grand Haven did sustain a drive, it quickly died out, usually in their side of the field. The offensive play disparity (92 vs 58) between the two teams is shocking and indicative of the great shutdown defense that the Beardogs employed.
What went wrong: Run Offense – While the QB did throw 3 INTs, it was more shocking to see the Beardogs’ running tandem get held to a low, but respectable 2.7 yds/carry, especially after their performance last game. If the Beardogs hope to hold onto a home playoff spot, they’ll need a much more consistent display of offense.
Recent Game: W 24-0 vs Grand Haven
Record: 8-2
Previous Rank: 4
Next Game: at Great Plains Reapers

5. Spicewood Longhorns - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1214
Contributor: im4ut999
What went right: Offense – Spicewood displayed another example of a well oiled offense in this game where it seemed like every play they ran was run to precision. With an amazing completion rate of 80% (aided by no drops by receivers) coupled with a very effective running game, the Longhorns had Portland on their heels very early in the game. With their amazing offensive revival, the Longhorns are looking extremely dangerous.
What went wrong: Tackling? – Honestly there were really no bones to pick in this performance, but the Longhorns did have 4 missed tackles, but it didn’t amount to much and definitely didn’t open up enough space for Portland to make this game competitive.
Recent Game: W 42-3 vs Portland
Record: 7-3
Previous Rank: 5
Next Game: at Waco Davidians

6. Dallas Red Raiders - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1217
What went right: Kicker – In this slug-it-out battle, it came down to who could make more FGs. While Dallas’ offense gave their kicker closer FGs, he was able to knock down all the ones that he needed to.
What went wrong: Turnovers – Thankfully for the Red Raiders, their two turnovers didn’t lead to any points, but those turnovers could have changed the outcome of the game.
Recent Game: W 9-6 vs New Brunswick
Record: 5-3-1
Previous Rank: 6
Next Game: at Portland Hitmen

7. Las Vegas Stunners - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1219
What went right: Run Defense – The Stunners were able to shut down Hartford’s running game and prevented them from scoring TDs. With only one missed tackles, the Hellhounds were unable to get any extra yards. In addition, they got into the backfield and tackled the runners 8 times for a loss.
What went wrong: Pass Defense – Hartford was still able to move the ball down the field through the air as Hartford’s QBs completed over 60% of their passes. Fortunately for the Stunners, none of the passing plays ever got broken for huge plays.
Recent Game: W 20-6 vs Hartford
Record: 7-3
Previous Rank: 7
Next Game: at Oakland Wizards

8. Scottsdale Sun Demons - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1225
What went right: O-line – With almost 100 pancakes, the O-line completely controlled this game and allowed the Sun Demon offense to do whatever it wanted to.
What went wrong: Kicker – In this blowout, the score would have been even higher if the kicker was able to hit all his FGs and PATs. It’s pretty much moot, but he left 7 points on the board.
Recent Game: W 44-0 vs Chicago
Record: 5-4-1
Previous Rank: 8
Next Game: at Grand Haven Mist

9. New Brunswick n00bs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1210
What went right: Punter/Kicker – In this field position battle of a game, the n00bs’ kicker and punter put the offense in the best possible position to do well in this game. David Allison had a solid game, but to ask for him to hit all of his 40+ yard FGs is pretty unfair.
What went wrong: Run offense – New Brunswick’s bread and butter stalled in this game and pretty much shut down by Dallas’ defense. If the n00bs’ can’t figure out a way to get a more balanced offense, getting into the playoffs will be a big mountain to climb.
Recent Game: L 6-9 at Dallas
Record: 5-5
Previous Rank: 9
Next Game: vs Miami Cyclones

10. Hartford Hellhounds - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1216
What went right: QB play – Hartford’s starting QB had a fantastic game, but just wasn’t able to turn his 70+% completion rate into any points. He has consistently performed well throughout the season and will need to continue to do so if they hope to muster up enough offense to shock some of the stronger teams in the conference.
What went wrong: Tackling – If they hadn’t missed so many tackles, they could have stopped Las Vegas’ running game and forced them to throw it more where the Stunners had less success. This game was actually much closer than the score indicated, but it was the small things that did Hartford in this time.
Recent Game: L 6-20 at Las Vegas
Record: 4-6
Previous Rank: 10
Next Game: vs Ambridge Brigade

11. Portland Hitmen - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1211
What went right: Kick Returns? – This was just all in all a tough game. The kick returners did a decent job getting them some solid field position, but it didn’t amount to much. This game was one constant uphill battle.
What went wrong: Big Play Defense – While overall the defense didn’t play too badly, they just allowed to many big plays. The 56 yd TD pass in the 2nd quarter was a huge dagger that just blew the game wide open. After that, Spicewood was able to continue cruising into the end zone without much resistance.
Recent Game: L 3-42 at Spicewood
Record: 3-7
Previous Rank: 11
Next Game: vs Dallas Red Raiders

12. Miami Cyclones - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1955
What went right: Offense – Even though statistically it was a pretty mediocre game for the Cyclones, they maxed out their offense by stringing plays together and scoring 2 TDs. Instead of settling for FGs, the offense was able to slash its way through the Oakland defense when it got rolling.
What went wrong: Turnovers – None of their turnovers directly resulted in points, but it cost them valuable field position and allowed Oakland to hold on to the ball longer. In a game that was surprisingly close, the turnovers helped to snuff out Miami’s hope for a stunning upset.
Recent Game: L 14-22 vs Oakland
Record: 3-7
Previous Rank: 12
Next Game: at New Brunswick n00bs

13. Grand Haven Mist - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1222
What went right: Run Defense – Even with the front line getting pancaked, the Mists’ defense held strong against the run and gave the Beardogs’ running backs all they could handle. With a dearth of missed tackles (3 in total), the Mists showed that they could shut down one of the better rushing attacks in the conference.
What went wrong: Offense – Whether on the ground or through the air, the Mists just couldn’t get anything going. Their 3 INTs short circuited drives before Grand Haven even started them. Really this game was an aggravation of offensive futility for the Mists.
Recent Game: L 0-24 at Bel Air
Record: 2-8
Previous Rank: 13
Next Game: vs Scottsdale Sun Demons

14. RGB Berzerk - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1223
What went right: Punter – With a respectable 28 yds/punt on 10 punts, the punter seemed to be the only one who had a decent game. Add to that the fact that he made a tackle on special teams and you have the Berzerk’s player of the game.
What went wrong: Tackling – 22 missed tackles won’t cut it against the top team of the conference. It seemed that every play that Waco ran had a potential to break for some major yards.
Recent Game: L 0-71 vs Waco
Record: 1-9
Previous Rank: 14
Next Game: at Chicago Clams

15. Ambridge Brigade - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1221
What went right: Kick Returns – They had a decent KR average, but it’s not a good sign when all the kick returners are CPUs…
What went wrong: Everything Else – When you gain negative yards rushing it’s problem. When your QB gets hurried 11 times and sacked 3 times it’s a problem. When you miss 28 tackles it’s a problem. If you’re Ambridge, you just have to pretend this game never happened and look forward to the next game.
Recent Game: L 0-72 vs Great Plains
Record: 1-9
Previous Rank: 15
Next Game: at Hartford Hellhounds

16. Chicago Clams - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1218
What went right: Kick Return – They had a decent kick return average, but it was all for naught because the offense just couldn’t take advantage of any sort of field position.
What went wrong: Run Defense – When you allow 23 broken tackles, there’s something up with your run defense. They couldn’t slow Scottsdale running tandem and paid dearly for it.
Recent Game: L 0-44 at Scottsdale
Record: 1-9
Previous Rank: 16
Next Game: vs RGB Berzerk

Offensive Player of the Week:
QB Hugh LaurieWaco – 24/33, 331.5 yds (10 yds/attempt), 5 TDs, 0 INTs

Defensive Player of the Week:
DE Quinton StormGreat Plains – 7 tackles, 2 sacks (for 13 yds), 7 hurries, 4 TFLs, 2 Forced Fumbles, 1 missed tackle

Special Teams Player of the Week:
K Seth LoganOakland – 5/5 for FGs (20, 26, 38.5, 39, 41 yards) and 1/1 in PATs

Game of the Week:

#1 Waco vs #5 Spicewood

Spicewood has come on strong in the past few weeks and have taken the conference by storm. If order for them to vault into a home playoff spot, they’ll need to beat some of the top teams.
Prediction: This is tough and I’m anxious to see how Waco’s secondary handles Spicewood’s aerial attack. Both teams will score, but I think that Waco has more balanced weapons and will take this one in a shootout.
Predicted Score: 35-28 Waco

#2 Oakland vs #7 Las Vegas

In a week where one of the top four seeds is guaranteed to fall, Las Vegas has an opportunity to insert itself into home playoff contention. Standing in their way is an Oakland team that has won the past two games with closer-than-expected results.
Prediction: I believe the past two results for Oakland does signal some trouble and that Las Vegas will be able to take advantage and vault itself up the standings.
Predicted Score: 24-10 Las Vegas

#3 Great Plains vs #4 Bel Air

Whoever wins this game gets the inside track on a home playoff game so the stakes are pretty high. Bel Air has been the only team to knock off Waco and looks to continue its winning streak.
Prediction: Bel Air’s recently inconsistent running game will be their downfall this game as Great Plains will be able to limit the damage and pull this game out.
Predicted Score: 17-6 Great Plains

#6 Dallas vs #11 Portland

After a crucial win against New Brunswick, Dallas needs to avoid any upsets in order to solidify its spot in the play-offs. Portland will try to bounce back after the trouncing they took against Spicewood.
Prediction: Playing a totally different style team, Dallas will have problems containing Portland’s dangerous passing game. I think that this game could hinge on big plays and Portland has the personnel to get that done.
Predicted Score: 21-17 Portland

Can Spicewood take down the Davidians? We did take out Bel Aire, and that was before adding several top free agents and making some big moves on the trade front...but the Davidians still have an edge in fire-power. It will take a solid effort and we'll have to pull out some trick plays that I had Bort add specifically for this game

We haven't had time to practice them, so they could back-fire if not played to perfection...

Nice job scarlet...

Here's to a good game, Spicewood. If the Davidians are to go down this week, at least it will be to Longhorn bretheren.

Thanks for the generous writeup on Portland's last game. Spicewood clobbered us. I'm just hoping we can live up to your preview of the coming game against Dallas. They have a solid team and hopefully our defense can rebound and play up to our potential against them.

I implore scarlet to go back to picking us to lose like he did in our first 2 GotWs. Seriously he must be trying to take down as many favorites as he can to solidify his playoff spot.
